There was a mix up with my pick up date not being updated after someone from the business called me to inform me that the original location I had scheduled my pickup for would not be open on that day. I have been doing everything I can to support local business during the COVID lockdown. Tonight I decided to support Vals. I saw on their website that they close at 8PM but I live minutes away so didn't feel bad about calling in a to-go order around 7:30. Unfortunately I got a busy signal every time I called them. As such, I decided to check out their website and twitter and try to find a menu. No luck either place. Nor did I find an option to order online. No big deal. Kept calling, kept getting a busy signal. Great. They must be weathering the CV storm well. At 7:42 I got an answer and asked if I could place an order for pick up. "Whatta you want?" was the reply. I said, well, I couldn't find a menu on your website or on twitter. Could you go over some options? (Heavy sigh) "Do you live close by because we're about to close." Wow. I was stunned. I have been met with SUCH gratitude at my neighborhood places -- this was stunning. I guess they can afford to turn down business even in the midst of the worst economic collapse since the great depression. I was apoplectic. After getting my thoughts together, I said simply: doesn't sound like you guys really need the business. I'm good. You all just make sure you leave on time. And that's the story of how I decided to never do business with this lot again. And so that my review meets the actual "review" criteria, I've had Vals once before quite some time ago. Incredibly disappointing experience. 8 dollars for a microscopic slice of cake. Waited 15 minutes for a few slices when no other customers were present. 2/3 of the cake containers have holes in the bottom. If you're going to charge upscale pricing you should at least back it up. read more

WOW. Can we just say delicious! My boyfriend and I went exploring for a good dessert, and boy are we glad we stopped here. It is a smaller shop, boasting big flavor. The Red Velvet cheesecake was decedent, rich, creamy, and oh so satisfying The top cake crumble was moist and dreamy. Not only were out tastebuds tickled, but the staff was humorous and lively. We got 3 flavors: Lover's Lane (Red Velvet), Classic Blueberry, and Bae (vanilla pudding, caramel, candied pecans). They all came in a small, reusable mason jar, which was a cute presentation. Overall, the cheesecake was creamy, cold and perfect, complimented by the tasty crust at the bottom of the jar. All the flavors were absolutely delicious! Lover's Lane had a nice texture and rich taste. The Bae was a nutty, sweet delight. My favorite was the Classic Blueberry, which had just the right amount of blueberries and sweetness. So I arrived little spot didn't know where to park so I parked in the parking lot for the restaurant next door. Walk up (kind of reminds you of a snow cone shack) and you either can get a slice of cheesecake for $8 or get the jar of cheesecake for $6 and some change after what seemed like forever because I could not decided I really just wanted a strawberry chessecake in which they did not have any. I was craving for dessert and I love cheesecake! So I found this cute little place. It is basically a window! So you can order from there. The gentleman that helped me was very nice. He made some suggestions according to each type of cheesecake and made sure I knew they had the little jars and also slices - he showed me both types so I could understand the sizes and which flavors they had of each type. I went there to get two but after his explanation and all the good flavors I ended up picking 3 jars: traditional strawberry, cookies and cream and turtle! He labeled them all and put all in a bag with wooden spoons and napkins. There are a couple seats around there but not many. All the flavors were very very good! And you get to keep the jars! The manager on maple (Will I believe) said they didn't have our order never had it and he knew because he made them. Called the other store to see if it magically appeared over there, it didn't). Lets try to make this brief: The shop itself is turquoise in color and very small (think popup snocone places). There is not a definite parking area, so you have to park at the restaurant beside it, or cross your fingers that there's somewhere else. The prices are pretty steep, each cheesecake containers cost about $6. Then again, you get to keep the containers so that only SOMEWHAT justifies the price. As for the cheesecake itself, is the true reason why I am giving Vals Cheesecake 4 stars. No kidding, this beats Cheesecake Factory. My boyfriend is an avid cheesecake lover and the cheesecake here completely wins him over. I have tried both the mint chocolate and the original with strawberry. The cheesecake custard part itself, is the real deal. It's smooth, creamy, and not oddly flaky and eggy in texture (like local drugstore cheesecakes, bleh). We saw this cute bright vibrant blue tiny house while driving, and I found out it sells cheesecakes. Order at the window and you'll get them packed to go in seconds. The price is ridiculously expensive for a tiny minuscule cheesecake in a cute tiny 4oz Mason jar. It was $7 bucks a pop for a Mason jar and $8 for a slice. As an avid cheesecake lover, I can say with confidence that Val's is one of the best. I have yet to enjoy cheesecake in DFW as much as I enjoy Val's. Be aware that this is literally a walk-up-and-order-at-the-window place, with only one parking slot alongside the building, and a sparse amount of outdoor seating. If driving in, there is street-parking available on Shelby Avenue. I was on the hunt for dessert in Uptown, so after doing a quick Yelp search, I decided to try Val's Cheesecakes since I hadn't tried it before. I didn't expect it to be a walk up, but luckily I wasn't planning to sit and eat anyway since I only needed to pick up dessert to take to my mom's house as a sweet surprise. When we drove up, there were no available parking spots, so I had to get dropped off on the busy road of Maple Drive to run up and place my order. Be aware that the parking is very limited. After asking the cashier what the most popular cheesecake in a jar was, he told me it was the Lover's Lane Cheesecake, which is a layer of red velvet cake and cheesecake together. Of course I opted to order the most popular cheesecake and I also go the Classic Strawberry Cheesecake. The presentation is so cute with the little jars filled with deliciousness. The Lover's Lane was truly sensational, but very rich. The moist and buttery red velvet cake crumbs really complimented the velvety cheesecake. It was the best of both worlds having cake and cheesecake all in one! One jar is definitely filling due to its rich and creamy flavor. I didn't have any of the Classic Strawberry Cheesecake, but my mom told me she loved the cheesecake and graham cracker crust, but she didn't like the strawberry jelly on top. I blame my ovaries for my 9:30 pm craving for chocolate. Thankfully, Val's is a gal's best friend because it's open late AND works with the Postmates delivery service. My sweet-tooth coupled with my inability to make a decision resulted in my order of 4 different cheesecake jars even though they're itty-bitty and $6 each. (I rationalized this as being cheaper than buying a whole cheesecake which would've been $48.) Because I've been missing Italy, I longed for the Nutella cheesecake, but, alas, t'was sold out by 9 on a Friday. Undeterred, I decided to try the Lover's Lane (red velvet cheesecake). It seemed to have the most positive Yelp responses, and I am happy to report that they ain't lyin'. It was easily my favorite of the group. When the jars arrived at my house, I sat down with my heating pad and pressed play on American Horror Story on my DVR. I tried one bite from each jar, and it was so delightful having a buffet of cheesecakes. I settled on the red velvet for the night, and I ended up killing the jar in 5 bites. It won 1st place. The mint-chocolate, cookies and cream was so funny-looking (green like an Andes mint!), but the crumbly texture of cookies was excellent. The mint, however, overpowered the cream-cheese, but it was still decent. I dub it 2nd place. The plain cheesecake with strawberries was excellent. It tied for 2nd. I also had the one with a coffee flavor, and it was super rich, but, again, so yummy. This guy came in 3rd, but I bet he's first on someone else's list. I got the Greenville Ave cheesecake which is a chocolate mint flavor - it's great, come in a jar that is portable and good enough portion as a small dessert. Also got a Lover Lane, a red velvet, but I haven't tried it yet. Well, the main reason I'm writing this is mainly for people who are wondering if they can bring these jars through the airport security. Short answer: yes, it's possible. Moment ago, I was worried and ready to give them up if being asked, so I let them be visible through the mesh pocket on my backpack. The officer saw the little jars and asked what's inside. I said cheesecakes and he took the jars out and placed them on the bin together with my liquid ziplock bag, saying just in case the scanning officer asking. And she did ask the same question of what is inside which the first officer responded that it's obviously cheesecakes, so they passed. However, it's a little troublesome for the officers and take a little extra time although not too long (a couple questions back & forth), so maybe I'll avoid doing it if possible unless I have a flight at an ungodly hour that security is a breeze. read more

Per our friend's recommendation, we stopped by Val's cheesecakes on Sunday afternoon and walked right up to this cute hut. Val himself was there, guiding us through the menu. He was so sweet, informative and nice! We shared a mint chocolate chip cheesecake and it was pretty good (props to Val for figuring out how to make a mint chocolate infused cheesecake). It comes in a mini mason jar that you can take home with you which is a personal trinket for you to remember your memories at Val's. The cheesecakes are $6 which, personally, are a bit on the pricier side. I probably would stop by for a special occasion/craving or if I was showing people to town, but making this a regular would make my wallet cry! read more

This is an adorable little cheesecake window. We came here after dinner on a Saturday night, and (maybe because it was 100 degrees) there was no line. We walked right up to the window, and the nice man working the register explained the sizing and flavors. I've read reviews of people complaining that the cheesecake in a jar is $6 for 4 ounces, while the slice of cheesecake (which is nearly twice that size) is only $7, but I would choose the cheesecake in the jar every time. Number one, because you get to keep the jar (and it is adorable). And number two, because nobody needs more than 4 ounces of cheesecake. This cheesecake was so rich that I could barely finish my 4 ounces, despite how delicious it was. I had the Cookies-n-Cream in a jar, which is basically Oreo cheesecake, and my boyfriend had a slice of the Turtle Cheesecake (I think he regretted not getting a jar, it was a lot of cheesecake to finish!). For the record, we both thought the flavors were outstanding. I wish there was more to this place than the tiny window and the small wrought iron table with two chairs out front. We wanted to sit and eat our cheesecake, and we did, but we were sweating in the heat. It seems like people mostly drive up, hop out of their cars, order cheesecake, and drive away.
