No, not stroopenwaffle. A rich, dark, buttery and soft chocolate cookie that comes into your hands still warm via a waxed baggie that's folded and sealed with a golden sticker. When you bite into it, there's that instant comforting flavor of truly good cocoa. Rich, smoky, and just a little bit sweet. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on THE MOST DELICIOUS COOKIE IN LIFE!! Thanks to Charmaine (of the HungryBirds food tour company) my love for Levain cookies was ruined. Haha. That's saying a lot. If you're from NYC you'll know what I mean. The store is quite small and was actually closed by the time we made our way there, due to the fact that they were all sold out for the day. Thankfully our tour guide had already reserved us a batch! A must try, I walked by the first day and noticed the wonderful smell. The second day I walked by and noticed the not only the small but several of the happiest looking people I have ever seen: some young Dutch ladies who were making what I thought were chocolates but turned out to be the very best cookies I have ever eaten. I am not a big sweets guy, but I bought their tin of cookies to bring home as a gift. They said they would keep for about 4 days and we ate them on the sixth but having followed the reheating instructions they were still pretty good so I can only imagine what they would have tasted like fresh. read more

This place is worth the hype. I don't say that often, but seriously. The price shocked me when I first saw it, but after having one cookie and standing in line again for another one, I realized why they charge what they charge. I have walked 20 minutes to this place and back or paid tram fare in addition to the price of my cookies and never felt bad about it. These cookies are so good they only make just the one kind. That's got to be a huge statement in itself. Hot or cold they're yummy. They only make so many at a time so there was a waiting list of people coming back for their cookie treasure. I bought a dozen to share and to have some on hand in case I needed a cookie fix. There's a queue outside but it goes pretty quickly. It's an ok cookie but not sure I get the hype. There's a limit of 7 cookies per person but that's probably more than you'll want to get. Make sure you wait in line the whole time because I wasn't allowed in with my wife while I was walking around with my child to keep her from inhaling the second hand smoke everywhere. YES! I mean how can you give this place anything other than 5 stars - it has everything one could ever want in a cookie. Yummy chocolate cookie (almost like a brownie) filled with a creamy, custard-y, deliciousness centre and loaded with milk chocolate chips. If you're lucky enough - you'll get one fresh out of the oven and you'll feel like you've just died and gone to heaven. I love companies that are ballsy enough to do one thing and do it really well. You have to have supreme confidence in your product to do just one thing, and Van Stapele should be damn proud and confident in their product as they are amazing! This has to be on the 'Must Do' list of places to visit on a foodie's self-guided walking food tour of Amsterdam. Van Stapele Koekmakerij literally makes only one kind of cookie. That's seriously all they sell. The shop is so cute and charming, and they make and bake those lovely cookie morsels right in front of you. Best cookie ever! Perfectly soft chocolate cookie with an ever so slightly crunchy and perfectly caramelized outer crust. But, what puts it really quite over the top is the gooey white chocolate filling that ever so wonderfully contrasts with the slight bitterness of the dark chocolate base. Oh heaven! read more

Amazing cookies!!! We walked by this place without knowing what it was and then saw all the reviews on yelp. Luckily it was around the corner from our hotel and we stopped in early in the morning. There was already a short line. The smell alone was worthy stoping for. They sell a dark chocolate cookie dotted with chocolate chips and filled with a white chocolate blob in the center. It's the way a cookie should be- chewy but nice and soft. Watching them get rolled and bake while you wait is fun! They use valrohna chocolate which is high quality and you can tell. We've been eating them before bed each night and are loving them! read more

They make exactly one item here. A chocolate cookie with a gooey white chocolate center. They are constantly making small batches of fresh cookies so you should get that fresh out of the oven taste. Normally I don't care for white chocolate but this cookie was delicious. Whenever I am in Amsterdam I make sure to head to Van Stapele. They have the best cookies I've ever tasted! I actually don't like chocolate very much and rarely eat chocolate cookies. But these are by far the best chocolate cookies. They bake them often throughout the day so they will most likely be hot when you buy them.
