Delightful bookshop and *I think* the only bookshop :) Library is down the road so you can have two options in just a short walk. As per the description they have used and new books here; they also have a lot of interesting and intriguing gift items, many Vashon related as you might imagine. The selection of books is truly impressive for a small town spot - small town yet worldly at the same time! If I lived on Vashon I would surely be here all the time and wouldn't have any problem satisfying my book reading needs! Would shop here regularly. Staff is also friendly and courteous; the space is clean and inviting. Very welcoming for casual browsing or serious purchasing. Prices are reasonable and not much different than any other bookshop in the region. read more

A lovely place to visit on Vashon island. Great selection. Fair prices. Very kind staff. Warm, relaxed atmosphere. Greatly appreciate their tradition of putting out a mailbox for Letters to Santa each year. My pre-school age child has put a letter in twice now, and he received a personal letter back from Santa and was over the moon about it each time. This was a perfect place for my wife and I to find on our last date before our new baby arrives. We walked in and immediately were taken in by the amount of books and ample seating. It is not like a crazy amount of books but the shop is "bigger on the inside" and the amount of seating is just perfect. So many cozy places to sit and read. They also have a couch area with a couple games set up. So my wife and I wandered around the place and I noticed that like any good bookstore they have marked the books they recommend and have marked the books that are by local authors which I think is super cool because it really brings the fact that this is a local place to the front of your mind as you shop. I am always looking for a good book by someone local. I love to support small business and local craftsman/artists/authors. This book store not only allowed me to do that but helped me to do that. My wife and I bough some used and new children's books after sitting down and reading them to each other. and we also played a fun nostalgic game of checkers before we paid at the front with nice young woman who was happy to help us and make small talk at the counter with us. This is an awesome bookstore and I really could have bought more than what I did here but I controlled myself. The selection and sections are impressive and several books caught my eye where I considered getting. In the end I got a Fantagraphics book and didn't break the bank in doing so. The service and staff are helpful and friendly and will definitely be back when I pay a visit to the island again! read more

I'm surprised to be the first to review this little gem. Perhaps it is new? Anyway, I hope I am not ruining Vashon by reviewing the heck out of it, but I really enjoyed my day here. The book shop was perfect. It had a fairly amazing new and used book selection. Bright and cheery, it also had some cleverly placed seating (my biggest pet peeve about bookstores!). They even put up with four of us trying to solve their brain teaser puzzle for about 30 loud minutes in the middle of their bookstore. In short, it was what I would want if I were to open my own bookstore. Oh yea, did I mention that they have an attached tea/coffee place next door? Amazing, amazing selection of teas here with comfy chairs. I could have moved in here. Just give me some tea or coffee and a big pile of books. read more

Vashon Bookshop sells new and used books. They had a lot of great selections and I refrained from buying 5+ books. The bookstore isn't too big, but they utilize their space nicely and have even put tables and reading chairs throughout their store. It's always worth it to stop in local bookstores. read more

A great little bookstore with new and used books. I wanted to see what was on Vashon before my dinner reservations someplace else. This bookstore was on the main drag. They had such a nice selection of books at affordable prices. I got a few used books in great condition. They have seats everywhere in the store where you can get lost in a book or two. read more

Lots of seating area in the store, love the ambience. Peaceful clean and cozy, could have spent the whole day here without the hustle and bustle. It's also located right next (you don't have to leave the bookshop it's connected inside) to an amazing cute quaint Japanese themed tea shop. Stopped over at Vashon Book Shop as I waited for the ferry ride back to Seattle. The store is in a cute central retail area of Vashon Island. The book sellers were somewhat friendly and the selection was good. I love these little indie bookstores and try my best to keep them around. If I hadn't already started two books already, I would have probably picked up a title or two. If ever your on Vashon Island waiting for a ferry, I would recommend coming here as you wait. read more

What a great book shop. a little bit of everything and just gives off the perfect kind of comfy vibe that you want. Prices were very reasonable and the genres and topics covered in this shop are surprisingly extensive. the buyer really does a great job picking out books to add into their inventory. Full disclosure: I live on Vashon, so my family trades used books here, my daughter had her first job here, so it's not an unbiased review - I love this place! Big sci-fi section: I can always find something new, or something to re-read. Equally large murder-mystery section. Big kids/YA section, tons of the series my son loves. Always something fascinating on the display table near the counter, and nearly always somebody slouched in one of the chairs reading something. And the nicest bunch of bookmongers you could hope to meet. The most comfortable bookshop I know. read more

I shopped here twice in the last three days because I found the entire series of a Chick lit variety I started with at B & N. If I had bought my way half-way through the series at the aforementioned big box behemoth I would be out a significant amount of limited funds. Not so here on Vashon. However both days with two separate shop keepers I got an aggressive "closing time shuffle" that had the lady walk through the section I was in twice to take stock of existing books and shuffle around next to me unabashedly. I guess they have a theft problem? The first time I was here was an hour before closing and I admit I paid partially in change. Annoying but it's not like it was Canadian. I also paid her in EXACT change, that's got to win me back some points right? I felt the monitoring invasive and excessive. But it all seemed cool when I left. The second time I was with some people and there was this snowy haired lady bopping around like a pinball. I could maybe chalk it up to her wanting to have things in order, because we came in this time half an hour before closing. I am reminded because the woman loudly announced to me and the kids I was trying to get excited about reading that twenty minutes after we arrived it was TEN MINUTES UNTIL CLOSING. Good grief. We left in stages because they do have good selection and it was hard to choose, but this just freaked her out like it was some calculated , "The Italian Job" coordinated attempt for me to make out with children classics like " Pat the Bunny", " The little house" and " The very hungry caterpillar" stuffed into the waistband of my leggings. After the other two people with me paid, the shopkeeper directed a loud pleasantry at the lot of us " Thank you, GOODBYE!". Our ears were 18 inches away from her mouth and I swear if you tested an A-Bomb in that store her goodbye would be the loudest thing in there. I will feel really bad if I ever find out this lady of a certain age has massive hearing loss, but I'm suspecting no. Worried she'd turn off the lights on the straggler in the mystery section I retrieved my last kid. I might come back soon but I would be sorely temped to bring money in pennies. Really great selection, just don't look for corporate enforced pleasantries like at Starbucks and I suggest not going while feeling down in the dumps or you might get maced by the uptight group of ladies here. read more

It's small, but the staff has excellent discernment when it comes to picking titles - I usually find what I'm looking for, and if I don't I'll leave with something equally interesting. I am able to trust that they will give me a fair price for trade-ins, which is not how I feel about most used bookstores. read more

The customer service could use some coaching. Please try to look pleased and friendly that customers are in your store. I am struggling with needing to buy a book right now and not wanting to go in there because it's a grumpy environment. I would love to want to go in.
