Came here for Valentines day set dinner menu. Sourdough starter bread was so hard and dry. Shrimp were 10/10. Arancini 10/10. Crab ravioli was fine 8/10 (pasta itself was great but the filling was underwhelming), but scallops served within was 10/10. Raspberry mouse was so-so to me 7/10, but boyfriend loved it. Drinks: Holy Water was surprisingly very weak in overall alcohol flavor and taste Pink Lady: also very weak in flavor but lemon sorbet in it was good. Authentic Italian cuisine and delicious wood-fired pizza. We had the Saint Michael pizza which has black truffle oil, porcini cream sauce, fior di latte, crumbled Italian sausage and sautéed mushrooms with a rich white sauce. It was spectacular. So flavourful and aromatic. We also tried the carbonara, which was amazing. It had pancetta, pecorino cheese, crumbled Italian sausage and chili oil. If you like your pasta softer, make sure to indicate that, as they do most of their pastas "al dente." It's a family restaurant that uses local artisans and locally sourced ingredients when possible. Plating was fabulous and the service was amazing. This restaurant is located in South Edmonton and has very unique, lovely murals on the ceiling. Would definitely recommend! read more

This is definitely the restaurant I recommend for Italian cuisine. The server was attentive with nice attitude. I was being served well. I've been here a few times. Generally most of their dishes are satisfying. In particular the mussels in White wine sauce is amazing. You will feel like having the second round because the sauce has a very good balance of the wine, cream and the other ingredients. Their soup and pasta taste rich and stimulate your appetite and you want more and more. The restaurant preserves the traditional Italian style for the interior and ambient. This place has the potential to be much better than it is imho. We won a free hotel stay across the street so we decided to check it out. The decor is very cool, Sistine chapel type art on the ceiling is a nice touch. They've done a good job cause all those years of it being a Greek restaurant it needed a good face lift, mission accomplished Started out with some meatballs and they were actually very good. There was a dollop of pesto on all of them which certainly wasn't mentioned on the menu and would send me scrambling for an epi pen in most cases but we asked and they use sunflower seeds instead of nuts so crisis adverted, but you should probably add that little detail to the description The gf got the chicken parmigiana, which was fairly excellent. Nice and crispy breading, good cheese, good size, unfortunately the sauce on top and with her pasta needed a ton of help. A good fistful of salt and pepper woulda helped a ton. Maybe some basil at the end to add a little depth. I had the porchetta and I had to get a side of the cacio e pepe. The pork was tasty a little bland but well cooked. Cacio e pepe needed waaaay less cacio and waaaay more pepe (less cheese more pepper) the sauce was so heavy and rich. The pasta was just swimming in the sauce. Again no salt anywhere in sight, it was such a cloying sauce I couldn't eat it after a few bites. Finished off with one of my favourite things in an Italian place, good ol Tiramisu. This was not good, no coffee liqueur flavour at all, kinda just mushy and weird. Our server was nice and everything was pretty quick so that's always nice. It's definitely pricey for what you get...just under 200 bucks with a 40 dollar bottle of wine and a couple cocktails...I could probably get talked into trying it again if I was staying at that same hotel but I certainly wouldn't be making the journey on my own volition anytime soon. We had a romantic date night here. It was tastefully decorated and an elegant amount of ambiance. Our waiter was attentive giving us the specials and they were able to accommodate my fiance's dietary needs with gluten free options. He said he really enjoyed the gluten free pasta. This is a very nice place to go for dinner. The artwork on the walls is classy, and the ceilings are gorgeously decorated. The seating and tables are kept clean and neat. Our server for the evening was fairly quick, and very attentive. The menu is very Italian, with a fair amount of gluten free options, as well as dairy free, or substitute options. Had the pleasure of eating here for my birthday a few days ago and I have to say it's totally underrated. I have driven by it numerous times and never thought to eat here, it's right on gateway boulevard and in the same parking lots as travel lodge hotel so I wouldn't have ever thought to try this out. It's absolutely beautiful inside, the ceilings are painted to replicated the Sistine chapel, it's very spacious and clean inside. Our reservation were for 7:30pm but we shower up early and they were able to accommodate us early. The hostess was very nice and the service was great. We ordered the Porchetta ($27) and the servings are large, came with fresh roasted veggies and gnocchi. Penne Lucifero ($19) and added pork, this meal was perfect. I highly recommend the pear Prosecco too. We had leftovers to take with us. I just wish the location and outside matched how great it is inside. read more

I used to love this place. I have no idea what happened, but it went to the toliet. Food was shit. Managament was shit. DO NOT eat here. My cabanora wasn't properly made. It was full of grease. It was cold. Absolutely Disgusting. When I complained the the manager she didn't do jack shit. Normally I give restaurants a three strike rule but based on the "management's" response apparently the customer isn't right. And not this one. Who is Yelp reviewer of the year and gave this restaurant a very generous review before COVID. Take your money and go elsewhere. i won't even bother to show you the amount of grease in the poorly made pasta I picked at. I only have two restaurants that I don't recommend based on management and this one of them. If you want good Italian thin style pizza go to Rosso. I was impressed by the quality of food here. The homemade pasta was fresh and delicious and the sauces were really flavorful. I was least impressed with the pizza but it was still good. I would go back but only get pastas rather than pizza. The spaghetti may have been the highlight, it was really tasty and the sauce had the perfect amount of subtle spice to it. Not bad, but not worth the high price point. The decorations are nice, and the server was kind. We asked if all the pasta is made in house, and server asked and reassured us it yes. Went with a few friends and some dishes were good, others disappointing. The caramelle came with butternut squash ravioli (in basic rectangle shape). Pictures posted by other yelpers also seem to indicate inconsistent shaping. Some people are lucky and get little hand pressed bags of pastas, others get ravioli, not sure why. Maybe the the staff working on a quiet weekdays are not skilled enough to hand fill their pasta? But I was told the ravioli tasted great, and was probably made in house. The penne looked suspiciously uniform and smooth, like it came from an industrial machine with standard steel plates. So I do not think they make ALL the pasta in house. Also tried the special, lamb shank with polenta, and it was not done with care. The lamb was barely room temperature and tough. Instead of a tender fall off the bone lamb, I had carrots and lamb too firm for the knife and fork to cut apart. The taste of the sauce on the lamb was good, but it needed to be braised for a lot longer. For the price point I'd expect all the food to be shaped correctly and cooked correctly. read more

Decided to splurge being my birthday and got the steak add on, asked for medium rare, it was well done and the pasta noodles were undercooked. Portion sizes were not worth the money. The servers are extremely professional. The wine was reasonably priced: don't know if it was happy hour. The 2 dishes were great. The pasta was not over cooked and was nicely firm. Sauces were tangy and rich. Prices were very reasonable for such an establishment. They have several Tesla chargers outside. A variety of items on the menu other than pasta. There is a patio. Vaticano and Sicilian have similar quality and pricing, except with Sicilian you get better value. I ordered yesterday at Sicilian and for the same price I got a much larger portion. Both just before 45$, 20% driver tip. Is it worth giving a try? Yes! The Pescatore w/citrus sauce dish is my favorite so far. Having a dinner with a group of friends and taking the opportunity to try this restaurant as I heard how good this place is. I got Cozze Lucifero with Spicy Tomato Citrus Sauce. The PEI mussels were good especially their in-house focaccia which I enjoyed lots. However, the sauce was a bit unsatisfactory. The word spicy shouldn't put there as it wasn't spicy at all and sauce was a bit salty. A friend who has a lower spicy level tolerant was confirmed that the sauce wasn't spicy at all. I don't mind with less spicy food but I'm not used to with salty food. I wish tiramisù was better. Lacking taste of coffee and creaminess from tiramisu is the problem with its tiramisu. I personally Sabor has a better tiramisu which was quite disappointment since Sabor is a Spanish/Portuguese restaurant not an Italian one. However, service was excellent and there was a performer that entertained us with his magic trick. read more

My husband and I recently dined here on a Saturday night, having made a reservation about 3 weeks prior. We had tried to go a few weeks earlier but were surprised to find it all booked up for the weekends. If you're planning on going on the weekend, its recommended you make a reso in advance! The restaurant itself it pretty spacious and has private dining areas for larger parties. The sound can really carry in the restaurant so it's definitely a little harder to hear your company! We had pretty good service and saw that there was even entertainment at the restaurant. They had someone at the restaurant going around and doing magic tricks for guests which was pretty neat! The food was phenomenal. I really enjoyed the arancini, which is the chef's daily special. I also started with the arugula fennel caesar salad which was amazing! The small portion was white large and loaded with delicious capers. I am definitely ordering that one next time. My main dish was the bucatini carbonara, which was fantastic! The sauce was creamy and rich and the noodles were perfect. I also really enjoyed the Italian sausage and pancetta. My husband ordered the mezze maniche bolognese which I found to be quite delicious but he thought was a touch plainer than he hoped. We liked our experience here but the highlight was definitely the food and I think we'll just have to come back to try the pizza! read more

Vaticano has definitely improved since they opened. Located on Gateway boulevard by the Travelodge. This Italian restaurant had a decently big menu with several options. I ordered the caramelle pasta which are ravioli filled with walnut cream. The dish was well done and thought I feel it needed a little bit more salt and something more acidic to counter the richness of the walnut. The dish was decent and worth the price. We were lucky enough to get a last table for two, but luck will not always work. Being an italian food lover we ordered our favourite food from menu, Pizza and pasta. Bucatini Carbonara: Enjoy the Delectable combination of pork sausages and eggs. Texture was creamy and we thoroughly enjoyed every bite of this lovely pasta. Also portion size is good enough. St.Anthony Pizza: If you are a huge non-veg lover and are not particular about specific meat, then go for this pizza. Tiramisu: After such a big meal, you definitely deserve a dessert. Well we were expecting this one to be rocking too. They presented it really well, but tiramisu was little bit disappointing as i have had amazing one earlier. I was suprised to see this place almost fully packed on a Thursday night! That's a good sign. The atmosphere was nice and lively. Our waiter was also really nice. We ordered the carbonara and gnocchi. Prices were $21-24 for the dishes we picked, which I initially thought wa fair. First impression of food upon arrival, was that portions were smaller than I had hoped! A bit disappointed in the quantity. Taste though I have no complaints- sauce was really good, texture of pasta was good. Overall very tasty. If only they provided more for the price they charged then it'd be a solid place to come back to over and over. I left the meal not feeling fully satisfied, so this place won't be on the top of my list to return to unfortunately. We chose this venue for a work retirement party. The space is cozy with nice ambient lighting and painted ceilings. We had a set menu that evening that included two salads, two pastas, chicken, salmon, veggies and either tiramisu or gelato for dessert. My favourite items were the Caprese salad with in-house made mozzarella, the house made foccacia and the creamy option for the pasta. The chicken was dry and the gelato was tasty but icey. The salmon was nicely cooked and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. My least favourite items were the veggies which were quite bland and the red pasta. The sauce was way too acidic. In a city filled with mediocre Italian restaurants, this one is better than most. Nicely decorated, good service, and the food is pretty good. I enjoyed my gnocchi, very flavorful, well presented and reasonably priced. Be aware, they do have a magician wandering around going table to table showing off his magician skills, some people might find it intrusive depending on their dining group, but we were ok with it. However, there was a large table of about 12 that he went to after us, as he was doing his thing they were loudly hooting and hollering and it was quite disruptive to the other diners in the restaurant. I know this other diners were visibly annoyed and because the serving staff were going table to table apologizing for the disruption. I think management should have stepped in and got the magician away from the table, he must have been that the table for 20+ mins while they were screaming and yelling. It honestly, was awful. That being said, the lack of managements desire to deal with a problem that was affecting the other 90% of customers in the restaurant speaks to an issue with management, not the food, decor or service.
