During Lent I choose to try the Fish & Chips at Vaughans. The food is very fresh and had a great beer batter breading on it. I'm not crazy about any fries but they were very fresh and deep fried. Great place to go to for St Patrick's Day. The service was very good and w an Irish flare.

8oz. burger, excellent and cooked to perfection.

Great service, atmosphere and perfectly cooked burger. A must do when in Hartford, friendly and welcoming environment.

Walk in and it's an old building. Very old. Has an old smell to it. And that is the only criticism I have for the place. Ordered a rare Irish whiskey and the owner himself served it. The food was normal Irish pub fare. The departed's pie was excellent

Vaughan's has that classic Irish pub vibe with good service to match. The food is just okay, but honestly, I feel like that's kind of the expectation at an Irish pub. The baked Brie was a standout, though, it was really good. The beers were cold, and our server was quick to change the TV when we asked. It's a no-frills kind of place, but it's not bad at all. If you're looking for a casual spot with a laid-back vibe, Vaughan's fits the bill.

I like coming here whenever I'm visiting family in the state. It's located right in downtown and feels hidden in a little street. Very cozy place and chill place, this place for me is more about the vibe. The staff is attentive and welcoming. Drink and food prices are reasonable. The food is okay, they have a variety of options. However, I truly come for the drinks. They have a good selection of beers

Strolled into this joint after getting recommendations from 2 separate strangers as we strolled through the streets. I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely cordial, attentive and funny staff. Made me feel at home and thats priceless! Drinks and brews were on point and the pub fare hit the spot. I hit up the steak and ale spring rolls and the bangers and mash. I Enjoyed both and I was gladly teased when I didn't come Close to finishing the bangers. It's. A lively crowd ... in the streets and the bar. leave your sensitivity at home. And it shows a lot of class to have actually maintained plantings outside. Really a deserved 4 stars but those garnered the fifth.

A traditional small Irish pub with great food set in a closed off street (platt) in Hartford. Across from the XL Center, which we were heading to after dinner. Greeted by welcoming staff who recited a good list of beers on tap. A Kilkenny beer for me to go along with some potato soup and bread pudding. I opted for a lighter meal so I could enjoy the delicious dessert. Copilot had the Sheppard's pie and reported it was very good. A wonderful vibe was felt in this establishment. All patrons showed to be laughing and smiling. Will return if in Hartford again!!!

Had a great lunch at Vaughan's on Veterans Day when it wasn't too busy. Hubby had the chicken ceaser wrap blackened and i got the Reuben and had to order a side of curry sauce ($3.50) to dip my fries in since i was so excited the curry was back - during COVID they weren't making it and i was calling all the time. The Rueben came out so hot that the bottom bread got a little soggy from the steam of the meat and the bartender resolved it so quickly it just gave me a chance to eat my yummy fries. Great that there is a nice lunch spot in Hartford where you can have a casual meal, a beer with your lunch and sports on TV.

I was on Pratt Street on one of their Pratturdays, with some friends. They have a DJ and some special sales at different retailers. When we got hungry we went to Vaughan's Public House to get some lunch. We looked at the menu on the window outside, and a few things looked like something we'd enjoy. There was plenty of seating outside, but we decided to sit inside since we wanted to cool off. Inside was pretty dark, but also had the look of an old building, when in reality it's only been around for 20 years. When our menu arrived I was disappointed to see none of the options that I saw on their outside menu were available. The waiter just said the outside menu wasn't updated. Vaughan's Public House is an Irish restaurant, here you'll find the typical Irish dishes and plenty of their beer. I was honestly a bit underwhelmed with the menu. I got the Reuben, I don't think it's particularly Irish. But it's ok. Our waiter was very quick and attentive, it's not his fault about the menu situation, but I call it false advertising for sure. My Ruben arrived quickly, it wasn't the huge version of the Ruben that I generally see, which is good. The rye bread was fresh and toasted just enough. The sliced corned beef was a bit off, not the best I've ever had, it wasn't properly cut, it had some odd chunks in it. Despite the dressing and the cheese, it was still missing some flavor to it. The fries were pretty good, I had them with ketchup. I was very hungry, so it all worked out fine, but far from amazing or something I'd want again. I also noticed their online menu prices don't match with the prices in the restaurant. Their management should look into this, and update all their menus. I can't say I was impressed with my experience at Vaughan's Public House. I'll give them three stars this time.

After being dragged here once we've returned two more times and just enjoy the pure mayhem of it all. Irish-American folks and wannabees all running amok. The real acid-test of this bar was the fact that staff as well as customers are friendly and fun-loving unconditionally. Our first go-around was in the company of a local celebrity -- the drinks came fast and kept coming. Several customers ambled over to meet & greet our friend. Next visit we went without him and yet found the service swift and the atmosphere quite friendly. One in our party became rather obviously drunk -- and but for being shut-off he was not made to feel uncomfortable nor were we. Mind you, our crew is usually very well-behaved. But, hey, this place brings out the lush in all of us, I guess. On a recent afternoon we discovered there was some kind of food, roast beef with potatoes and gravy, I think. It smelled awesome but we were here for the booze. Cheerful, efficient bar staff kept 'em coming. Our visits were all week-end afternoons, so can't comment on the night life. "She is dearer by far Than the world's brightest star,…read moreAnd I call her my wild Irish Rose" (The Mills Brothers) How many local bands do you follow? We follow three -Jake Kulak and the Modern Vandals, Suburban Escape Plan, and Intergalactic Kegger, and have seen all three at least half a dozen times. So, when we learned that Intergalactic Kegger was playing at the Irish American Home Society, we made plans to join a bunch of friends there. You need to be a member, or know a member to get in, and there is a checkpoint at the door where you are asked about membership status. We aren't members, but we know one of the guys in the band and his wife are, so we signed in as their guests and paid the $5 non-member cover charge. I could not believe how PACKED the downstairs bar area was. Yes, it was a Friday night, but it was only 6:15 or so, but it was so crowded it was hard to walk through the throng and even more difficult to find a few open tables. Once we settled down and claimed a space to sit, we walked over to the bar and, of course, had to order a cold perfectly poured Guiness. The bartender was a pro and poured it in two stages to minimize the foam and fill the glass with as many milliliters of that great Irish Stout as humanly possible. The ambience in the downstairs space was fantastic. We saw families with children, a young couple playing darts, and hundreds of fun-loving people of all ages dancing and having a grand old time. We interacted with a few customers when it came time to move around a few tables and chairs, and everyone was as friendly and cooperative as could be. There was food service last night, provided by Glastonbury's Tenth Hole Tavern. To order, we walked over to a counter to the right of the bar, and chose among a cup of chili, order of wings, shrimp tacos, a hot dog, and three sandwiches. Payment can be made by cash or Venmo. We ordered Shrimp Tacos ($16), a Pulled Pork Sandwich ($15), and a basket of fries ($7). My tacos were great- three big ones with a sweet chili panko crust, shredded cabbage, and pico on flour tortillas. I've had skimpier portions in a lot of restaurants for the same price. And yes, they sure paired well with that cold smooth Guiness. The sound system was great, and at a reasonable volume so we could enjoy the music and still have conversations at our table. What a fun experience!

Wow well this was a sad experience…read more Came here for my birthday lunch with family. The server was all alone trying to wait on a dozen tables or more. We ordered an appetizer of nachos and a few burgers for mains. And waited. And waited. I was checking my watch often because we had two hours on the parking meter that was rapidly winding down to zero. Nachos came after a while. Nothing to write home about... almost stale chips with a cheese/sour cream/green onion and jalapeño topping. Maybe a dozen black beans in the mix. We waited again for our mains. After a total of an hour, they came. I ordered a black & blue burger and asked for tomato to be added. It arrived without the tomato, so I reminded the waitress about that. And eventually the tomato came from the kitchen. Single slice. But by this point the burger was getting cold. I opened the bun to put it on and then saw the kitchen forgot the onion strings. So I flagged her down again to ask and she apologized and went off... to clear other tables. After ten minutes I asked her if the onion rings were coming and she was confused, thinking I didn't want them because I asked for no onions on my salad. No, I just said no raw onion on the salad. She asked it I wanted the onion strings after all. At this point, the burger had been sitting for at least ten minutes and I told her to forget it and just remove it from the bill. She looked over her shoulder and said, "here comes the manager". The manager shows up, reaches over to adjust the umbrella on our table, then leaves. Without saying a word. He walks off and we don't know what's going on. The waitress returns and says she comped my burger 50%. I asked why not 100% because I'm not eating it at all. She blinks and says she'll check. Bill comes back with it removed from the total, and I'm missing my credit card. She runs back exclaiming how she forgot the card and probably could use some coffee today. Ummm, yeah. This was error on error. Not a good look and pretty sad customer service. At least they had the World Cup on tv.
