What was this madness? Half the pool was too shallow to actually swim in and it had waves. This was the very first time I had encountered a "leisure" pool - oh trend setting, thoroughly modern Swindon you have so much to answer for - (along with the famed "magic roundabout"). I still return here with the kids every time we jump on a train to visit my wife's family. It is a great pool but looking distinctly tatty round the edges now. The domed roof desperately needs renewing - it looked spectacular 30 years ago but putting that aside its still super fun. The pool itself is beach style with a separate small kids pool. Good kids pool with 3 slides plus pirate ship.... The main pool has a steep three lane multislide and a new long slide circles inside the building (77m long). But really it is the flumes here that count and these are top. The Domebusters have a had a refurb this year and one of them has been replaced. All are approx 100m in length.So first off The Sidewinder A fairly gentle, spiralling flume aimed at younger children and parents. You can sit or go head first. The Great White My favourite - heads first ONLY never seen that on any other slide! Normally feet first everywhere.... A fast ride with two small vertical drops and several twists and turns. The Storm The new this year straight fast flume - small circumference with a striped lighting effect and sounds.. Didn't get to try this out this time - but will be back to do so....busy with an under 5... The session time was only an hour - which is really not long enough and it is fairly expensive considering the stingy hour. There are not many reasons to visit Swindon but this is definitely one if you are a water slide fan or the kids love to swim. . --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update So I came back to try out the new flume which I hadn't managed to try out last time. Managed to slip away from a family visit for a couple of hours with my teenagers. Interestingly GLL have taken over the management of the leisure centre since we were here in 2012 (they run most of the pools we visit in London). It had been spruced up a bit with the new corporate livery...but still the stingy session times. We took no notice of the session times and made good use of the domebuster slides. So The Storm was the main attraction - small tube, dark, with striped lightning and fast with the descent as a helix. A big thumbs up from the family - a great slide but not in our top 5 slides. Even at off-peak times there are queues for equipment because much of it does not even work. Complaints fall on deaf ears and management will not even entertain reducing fees due to the reduction in services. Their only suggestion they can offer is to cancel! They really do not care about the community or their members despite the headlines on their website.

You don't worry about verrucas and kids weeing in the pool here, unlike at North London's other, older and therefore grimier public pools. I like to come early on a Saturday morning (provided I haven't been out too heavily the night before) as it's usually pretty quiet and you can get a good pace in the fast lane without hitting too many people's heels. The changing rooms are also big and clean although my favourite thing about the pool is that it's near enough to my house that I can stroll home for a post-swim shower.

When you join with a yearly membership - which is really affordable - you get a package of personal training sessions, a gym towel, a T-shirt and a water bottle...all this is nothing fancy, but then again it kind of entices you to continue coming. Also, the trainers here are really great, I have to say. What's best about them is that they engage in ever-so-brief conversations with you; they ask you how you're coming along, or when you haven't been there for a while, they notice you coming back and congratulate you on that. This, I feel is great and it makes me feel as being part of some kind of community. Keep up doing the good work!

Its another beach style pool with a tiled island area - perfect for little ones getting to grips with jumping in the water. Much of this pool is really shallow. It has a reasonable wave machine - with a shelf you can sit on and get battered by the waves. Great fun when the kids were under 8 - we came here after school every 3 weeks over a couple of years (we use to alternate with Britannia in Hoxton and Waterfront in Woolwich) - but we have outgrown it . All the kids swim competitively now and the fun here is too tame for them (even with the youngest at 9). It has a really small swim around the island with no jets - just a waterfall that flows over your head as you swim by. A good shower jet for standing under that is powerful and always catches new visitors out as they desperately try to stop the jet removing their swimsuit. There is one slide which is great for first slide experiences....It snakes directly over the pool and is only half tube so if you go fast enough you get to splash the water over the top onto the pool below (and unsuspecting swimmers). Guess I spent too much time here. Main jacuzzi pool was always out of action and the small version was pretty poor. They do offer lane swimming if you want to train after public sessions - they stretch a few ropes across - so many better places to train, not sure why anyone would use this unless they lived next door.. We got to know most of the staff really well - slide was always open and on quiet nights we would get the waves to order. If you are looking to build water confidence in your toddlers or provide fun for under eights then this is great - otherwise travel there are better places about. Showers hit and miss, changing facilities basic and there is a gym. Never used it so cannot comment.

We booked asession for my son as a present and for somthing different. He has skied before quite recently but I hadn't skied since I was at school. You are provided with skis, boot and poles with the price of the session. You can hire trousers and jackets, we wore our own waterproof ones. It is important that you take your own gloves as they DO NOT hire them and they are expensive to buy. Believe me you will need them as it is very cold inside the dome. We really enjoyed ourselves and since we have been have booka weeks ski in March.

It is impressive - seeing a high slope covered in what appears to be something like snow in the middle of Milton Keynes is unexpected. However, this is the second time I'm trying skiing, and the first time was on a dry slope, so I can't comment really on the snow quality as some others have done. I was pretty psyched by the set up though. My main issue was the lesson. As complete beginners, my boyfriend and I booked onto one lesson to see if we would like it. In total, the lesson and clothing hire for both of us came to £90 - so basically quite a big deal for us. We were there mainly because when I left my previous work, they gave me a voucher as they knew we were considering trying skiing, so we didn't take the full whack, but it would clearly be a serious consideration if you wanted to do the whole course. I appreciate it must be expensive maintaining such a facility, but on the other hand, if you're going to commit to spending several hundred pounds on skiing lessons, I imagine you might as well just go on a skiing holiday. Basically I thought the lesson was way too slow. People have different learning levels, I get that, but really we did so little that it was hard to get really enthusiastic. In a 90 minute session, I would estimate that I went down a slope about 10 times - and by slope, I mean the lowest 15 metres of it. The vast majority of the lesson was spent waiting around. My only point of comparison is the lesson I had on a dry slope several years ago, where I distinctly remember being a lot freer to go down when I was confident enough, and we covered things like turning pretty early on, which didn't even get reached at Snozone. It was just quite a disappointing experience that neither felt like a special, exciting treat nor gave us much insight into whether we would like actual skiing. PLUS - just to note that apparently gloves are mandatory on the slope, which I don't think I saw on any of the booking materials. We happened to have brought some, but if you don't then you can't hire them there, so you'd have to buy them for £30.

You can get bowl and eat deals but the food i have had using this is not exactly a meal.
