The pedestrian zone in Vejle is simply charming! There are a variety of shops from inexpensive discount stores to good quality clothing shops. The are excellent restaurants, coffee & tea shops and an ice cream parlor. There are plenty of spots to just sit down and people-watch, too. It is a center for commerce and socializing.
Every so often you see an interesting stone in the street with a viking rune sculpted into it. I asked many passers-by what these runes stand for but nobody could tell me. A Google image search led me to the conclusion that these stones embedded in the pedestrian zone spell out the text on the original Jelling stone where Denmark was first named as a country. So there's an interesting bit of history woven right into the fabric of the center of town, too. read more
