This was the most memorable bar we went to during our most recent trip to Northern Europe. This was a trip that consisted of drinking, eating and walking pretty much the entire time, so that says a lot. This place is absolutely tiny, and every centimeter of it is filled with some tchotchke. Bicycles hanging from the ceiling, candles all over the place, dimly lit... As another reviewer pointed out, it's basically a cozy, happy, intimate version of a hoarder's home. Somehow, it all comes together in a very inviting way. The owner is super friendly and talkative, and picks out special beers for the customers based on what he recommends most in that moment. It's the only place where a shop owner trusted me and my friends so much that they actually left to take care of an errand while we hung around... and somehow it was funny, charming and we loved it! It was maybe only about 15 minutes, but it was like we had bonded over that time, and were completely at home. It was a lovely day that we went, so we chose to sit outside, which made for some nice light people watching (it's not a heavily traveled road, but people do walk through sometimes). We found this place because our friends who lived in Ghent for many many years says that this is one of the last truly, typically Ghent places that still exists. And if we want to understand Belgian culture, this is a good place to start. So we went with them and we found it completely charming. Focused on high quality beer and good conversation, where you walk in strangers and leave as friends. I'm glad we came here and I hope to visit again someday. read more
