It is a high-end department store chain, with the same ownership as Selfridge and Co in the UK, the stores do appear to be very similar to what I'm used to with Selfridge and Co back home, especially in terms of the appearance of the exterior. The main difference for me is the absence of a Food Hall (This particular location does have a Cafe though). The upmarket prices and vibes remain in most areas of the store, I do find some of the store's clothing sections to have vibes most similar to a market, rather than an upmarket department store though. The staff are very friendly and offer good service, with good product knowledge to explain beauty and fragrance products in detail, with benefits when appropriate. It is over multiple levels, with a decent number of escalators/lifts, and toilet facilities. A large department store with good service and a good selection of products, certainly worth a browse when looking to shop or kill some time in Rotterdam. 4*

Koopgoot is a sunken shopping passage right in the heart of Rotterdam, with a nice selection of…read moreshops. The shopping centre is also known as Beurstraverse, but De Koopgoot seems to have become a more informal name to reflect the centre due to its low-lying position. The design reminds me of the Liverpool One Shopping centre, closer to home, with the balcony overlooking the shops, it is mostly exposed to the elements, with limited cover in event of rain/snow, but still, the shopping area looks modern and rather attractive. The large Christmas tree adds some festive cheer, located by the Crocs Store. (December 2022) Urban Outfitters, Crocs, Dunkin, Esprit and H&M are some of the larger brands to have physical locations within Koopgoot. Fairly clean/modern, easy to find the stores you want to find, but do be aware that the steps can be very slippy, especially during the bad winter months, so you may wish to take the escalators, or just take extra care. I prefer the overall design in comparison to Alexandrium, which is a large indoor shopping centre, a short metro ride away, even if there aren't as many shops, but there are still some unique and cool brands here, so it is worth a visit for sure. 4*

Intrigued by the four meter wide window display, your eyes slowly glide onto the scene behind the glass, until you hit the entrance. A smart looking chap with a curly mustache stands outside the door opening, lights a cigarette and says: "Welcome to GROOS!" You stumble in and realise you have arrived in what seems to be a candy store for grown-ups. From limited edition prints, stunningly appliqued cushions, rainbow-coloured trousers, cups and saucers with hand-painted characters, quirky books, custom furniture and birdhouse lamps, every corner of the shop is filled with something of interest. Everything is for sale and every item has its own story to tell. Shop-owners Tjeerd and Joost are always on hand to tell you where each item comes from and what on earth the store's name means. Groos: an old Rotterdam slang word meaning proud. And that makes perfect sense, because this newly opened concept store is filled with items designed exclusively by designers from Rotterdam. And there's no crap being offered here, I can tell you. All you can see here is rather special and lovingly made. GROOS takes 'retail is detail' to an awesome new level. And there's more! GROOS uses its store for Sunday afternoon events, where you can watch, taste, listen and enjoy even more of the city's coolest stuff. I think we need more of this kind of shops around. I'm tired of the same shops every where I go: H&M, Zara, Jack Jones, etc. Sister Moon has very nice collection of fashion that suit my taste. I find it trendy and they carry brands that are not so common in the Rotterdam area. I can only speak for the men's department. However, most of my girl friends seem to like their merchandise as well. Humör is fun Danish/Swedish brand. They're quite stylish and I find their clothing quite hard to find in Holland unless I shop online. Sister Moon carries Humör and they are modestly priced. They also carry some up and coming young designers from Paris and London. Every time I visit their shop, they seem to always have new items. From the outside, the shop may not seem that appealing, but I recommend you to check them out. My friends and I always seem to find things that we like and want to buy every time I'm there. Go and support the local business with style! :)
