Love the Venice! The happy hour is great, sometimes doing buck a shuck which is harder to find these days. The bartenders are very friendly and the restaurant has a great local vibe to it. Throwback Thursday? Who says time travel is merely science fiction. One you walk through the front door of the Venice Restaurant, you are transported to a different era, perhaps the 1980s. The Venice reminds me of Italian restaurants I used to frequent in my youth, though they were missing the white tablecloths, and large bread basket with bread sticks. Otherwise the menu, the décor, the black waitress uniforms and lighting was a trip back in time, and not necessarily in a great way. We chose this restaurant because it was convenient to our hotel, and after a long day at Block Island, we wanted to grab a quick dinner. We were forewarned by the three star Yelp rating that the venue would be iffy. And my fellow Yelpers were right on, though the food on this visit only warranted two stars. We ordered: * Calamari * Ravioli (with Bolognese sauce) * House salad The calamari was rubbery, a little fishy and generally unappealing. The ravioli was prepared too al dente, the edges were hard, though the center of the ravioli was good and the Bolognese sauce was fine, standard fare. The house salad was fine, the lettuce was fresh and the blue cheese on the side was also fine. The bread was slightly warm, not especially tasty. Our waitress (Sam?), was excellent, cheerful, professional and prompt. Service was excellent throughout our meal. Would we return? Not unless we had to, or we were compelled by exhaustion. read more

Of all the places in Weaterly RI, we chose thisnreataurant to have dinner in. Its a holiday weekend. Okay, They were busy I get it. But rude, pushed off, abruptly shut down during an order. Waited over an hour for a glass of wine and then when I asked again was told they were busy and dont have enough help, as ro explain why I dont have my wine yet instead of just getting the F'ing wine. Other locals came in and got the Kings treatment so they were not "that" busy. I could go on but I wont. I will simply say this was my 8th and final time eating here. TOURISTS BEWARE! I never like to pick on a small business but it's honestly impressive how a restaurant this poor manages to stay alive. I was wondering how a place so close to the beach could be so dead on the weekend only to realize it's because the locals know better. This place is just a misery trap for unknowing visitors. I thought our server was having a bad day until her mood brightened up with a different table. Was it because my dad has an accent? Or because we asked for simple things like water refills? Who knows. Nobody liked the food and I spent the entire time apologizing for picking such a dud. It was one of those meals where everyone couldn't wait to leave. read more

Two pasta dishes were ordered and fully eaten - spaghetti and meatballs, and house made ravioli (the plum tomato sauce was great, lighter and fresher than your regular red cause). Just had a terrible time at the Venice Restaurant this evening. From soggy rubbery calamari, to terrible/rude service and to top it all off getting chowed on by mosquitos... inside non-less. Overall, the only positive was the vodka pasta with chicken and the clam chowder. After numerous times coming to westerly I'd say there are better options. read more

Nice spot next to the famous Winnapaug Inn. Southern italian favs here done right. Freshest ingredients, simple and just plain good. So we took my 90 year old Mom there thinking it would be special. What a disappointment. I felt like I was at a wedding banquet without the dancing and drinking. The food was cold, tasteless and empty platters at the buffet. Fish was chewy, meat was fatty, deserts were bland. Service was fair. Mom was so disappointed. But will say the people weee nice, the service from both bartenders was awesome and I point. Worst service ever! I understand there's waitstaff/kitchen help shortages, however, this experience was an Epic Fail without any communication or apology! Sunday, 9/19, dinner time was over 2.5hrs! Although we wanted to walk out, we kept hoping for the best. The waitress was very scattered, clearly needs more training! Apparently, our dinner slip wasn't put into the kitchen and was moved to the back of slips, no follow up, no communication, we just sat and waited... I eventually walked over to another waitress and asked her to check on our order. Our waitress immediately intervened, spoke to her and they walked away without going into the kitchen or coming to our table to explain. Our dinners were delicious but only warm. We were hungry, didn't mention because she never came back to follow up. When we finally received our check, drinks we never ordered were added to our check - when we mentioned this, she wasn't concerned, but gave us an "oh, you noticed" reaction. While we waited 10-15 minutes for her to adjust charges off of our check, I went to the ladies room and was surprised to see our waitress chatting it up with another customer. And, of course, the check still wasn't there when I returned. Once we were home, I called and spoke to Manager. Clearly, too busy to care! read more

If you love oysters Rockefeller this is the place to get them! My friends and I have found none better and that includes Ocean House. I just love the crunchiness of their fish tacos. I'm not a lover of Italian food, but I have enjoyed the Italian I did order. Don't be put off by the negative comments about the staff. It is difficult to get help in RI. at venice restaurant in westerly rhode island i experienced the craziest night with a weird but brave waiter that put up with an annoying situation like a professional. So, we took a quick trip to Misquamicut on an off season and were recommended Venice as nothing was open on the strip of the beach. We enter into a beautiful restaurant feeling completely underdressed and are greeted by the manager, Lou ( as I later found out ). The restaurant has a 70/80's type vibe but we didn't mind at all. Completely our style. The food was great! Ceaser Salad - fresh. Pizza - delicious. Bread - filling. Martini - amazing. Service - one the spot. Lou, the manager keeps a close eye on everything and was very nice! Sara, the server was busy but checked in. All we could ask for our getaway! Restaurant should have more stars. Thank you. We went to the buffet on Easter. I had been here years ago and decided to try it again. We were seated quickly. The waitress took our drink order and we went up to get our food. Out of 10ish trays of food on the first table we went to, there was one one with any food left in it. We went to the area that had the breakfast foods and the hot trays were all empty, two pieces of sausages were left. The guy doing the omelets was quick and helpful. It took a great deal of time to get any food. It seems there was only one person bringing food out to re-supply. When we finally got any food, it was OK, nothing great. The food came out in dribbles and we were not able to just fill our plate and sit down and eat, we had to keep getting up to find out if anything had been put out. Then they ran out of plates. By the time we left, it seems they had re-supplied the food. If you are going to have a buffet you should either limit the food or get more help. In addition, The restaurant should clear one seating and make sure people coming in for another timeslot have the same selection as the first timeslot. Not a great Easter experience. read more

My husband and I received a very generous gift certificate and we decided to use it on Saturday evening. I ordered the shrimp scampi (special) and my husband got the chicken parm. The scampi was served over penne which I thought odd, but I could live with that. However, what I received was most definitely, not scampi. As the menu described, it was had spinach and tomatoes - again, not traditional, but thought it could be tasty. The dish had absolutely no flavor. The pasta was literally floating in liquid. I could detect no garlic, white wine or butter. The tomatoes were that washed out orange color and had no flavor. My husband's chicken parm was a very generous size, and he said the chicken was tender, but the sauce was awful. Honestly, it tasted like something out of a jar. I didn't take my leftovers. My husband took his but then tossed it when we got home. The hostess was very unfriendly and looked rushed, despite the restaurant being pretty empty. Our server was lovely. We had been to Venice once for dinner about 15 years ago and hadn't been back except for a friend's surprise party. Our experience on those two occasions was about the same as Saturday night. I would not recommend this place, but I will say, it has been there forever so some people must like it. read more

Very welcoming local restaurant. Stopped in for dinner and was greeted by a very nice gentleman by the name of Lou, I believe. We arrived on the early side for dinner and was told it would be a busy night. We sat at the bar to watch football (had all games playing!) and enjoyed their full menu. The bar staff were great. She then asked if we would like to eat outside or in, we choose in because it was getting late and a little chilly out. She sends us upstairs to the next hostess who then again asks if we have reservations we again say no, she tells us there is no available tables for 3 people but can eat outside, there is a black man behind us who she now asks if he had reservations which he replied no but he was given a table inside and he also had 3 people. The food was just ok, do not order the meatballs they were the most disgusting thing I ever ate. It's safe to say we will never be back here and I would not recommend it. read more

Recently ate there with my wife and we are always pleased with their food and service. This last trip we used a visa gift card "debit" we sighned the slip for the meal total and left a 20% cash tip. next day go to use card and balance is less than expected. we requested a balance at time of meal and were told their system doesn't do that. went online to check balance and discovered they charged an automatic 20% service/gratuity charge. called and spoke to a representative who said they would have a manager call me. person who called back was the same name leaving me to wonder what game she was playing. I was told they do not charge a surcharge and it must be visas mistake. I offered to bring the documentation from visa website but she was insistent they weren't responsible and I should call visa back. Went online next day low and behold the charge was removed! Never called and spoke to anyone at visa. COINCIDENCE I think not. Some managerial training might be in order here. Don't know for sure but was told the person in question is a co owner. Went on a Sunday night. First of all our server was a vert pleasant young lady. I started with the Nee England Clam Chowder, very good. Then I had Shrimp Scampi. Five large shrimp that where cooked great with lots of flavor. Pasta also had good taste. Only downer, it was a lot of Linguine. Couldn't eat it all. Others had the Spring Rolls, Chicken Parmigiana and Ravioli. No complaints on any of those dishes. read more
