Love the feel of this community park compared to others on the east end. The park has a nice walking trail and easy access it to Kimball Road. Bring your dogs, ride your bike, blades or scooter. There is access for it all. The bathrooms are clean and readily available. There is appropriate lighting, plenty of parking and overall feels safe.

Go Ventura!  It gets hot, bring some type of tent (shade) and UV sunscreen. Cousin Bina rocks it. :)

Came here for a soccer tournament, so soccer fields are the focus of my review. The walking/bike bath loop around the park is about 1.35 miles long (one lap), good place for kids to ride their bike. Unfortunately, for young kids, there is no play structures, swings, sand box, etc. The soccer pitches are in good condition and have nice green grass. They also have softball fields. They do have a pool area which is akin to a mini water park, check their webpage for the hours. During the summer, or on a hot day, the lines for the different slides can be long - WARNING. They have a few bathroom facilities, which I found to be clean. For soccer purposes, this is a good location. I suggest bringing a tent, or some type of shade protection, there are not any trees to provide shade for fans around the fields. Parking is not an issue, plenty of spaces.

The toddler swim lessons are a good value. The pool is warm, but the air is usually cool. There always seems to be a cold breeze blowing.

They have great swimming lessons for kids. The pool and locker rooms are clean considering there are a lot of people that go to swim.

I have attended soccer matches and walked the path many times and had no trouble finding a parking spot even on a busy weekend.

When my friends and I completed our beginner level lessons at Juanamaria, we talked about trying the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. We were all a little doubtful we were good enough to hang with the Open Play players. Well, I had to find out. My coach at Juanamaria told me to come here and find Doreen, the woman in charge of Open Play. I found her, introduced myself and told her I wanted to play. There wasn't a game immediately available so, in the process of evaluating me, Doreen gave me what amounted to a private lesson. I was super impressed. It was such a generous gift. I learned a hell of a lot! Doreen immediately ascertained what level I was at and matched me with some players that were cool with playing a beginner. I was really grateful for Doreen steering me into the right game, and also appreciative of the players that welcomed me into their game. Very nice players! As it turns out, you are likely to run into all levels of players here during Open Play. There are a lot of very, very high level players. It's super fun to watch them play! But there are also a large number of average players, eager to improve their game. As far as I could tell there weren't any players worse than me. LOL. But I'm cool with that because everyone I've met at Open Play at Harry A Lyons Park has been hella cool. People are competitive, sure, but not obnoxiously so. Mostly you run into people that are clearly having a good time. Way more laughing at than cursing at their misplays. So, particularly if you are new to Pickleball and wanting to get some practice, I highly recommend checking out the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. Especially if you are worse that me. There's an immediate need for weak players so I can start winning some games! I've spent countless mornings and afternoons here hiking, clearing my head, and getting a great workout in while still enjoying nature. The trails are well maintained with multiple options, so you can keep it light or make it more challenging depending on your mood. The views are beautiful, especially in the early morning or at sunset, and it never feels overly crowded. It has a calm, local Ventura vibe that I really appreciate. I've also brought kids I nanny here for walks and fresh air (sticking to the easier areas), and it's such a great space to reset. One thing to note: when it's hot, be cautious of snakes on the trails--proper shoes and awareness are important. If you're looking for a reliable, scenic place to hike in Ventura that locals truly love, Arroyo Verde Park is a must.

In the middle of the park is the toddler playground and then at the end of the park is the larger playground area for older children. There is lots of grass and a grass hillside. The highlight for me was the toddler playground. I work with children and often like to meet at parks to see their gross motor skills and work on them. This is one of the few parks left I have seen with sand. The park was very clean and even though there were many dogs off leash running around, pet owners were quite aware of where their dogs were and I didn't see any dog poop in the grass. You also can't beat that gorgeous ocean view. I came on a Friday late afternoon when they don't charge a park fee. Big plus!

But this week I popped in to peek at the Senior dance class and was truly amazed.. the same coach, Coach Stacy is conducting the class and it was a full house. This class was so energetic and I stayed to watch with my jaw on the ground. Besides the coordination and energy of the group, they were all so thrilled to be there. The whole vibe was effervescent with laughter and high fives. I was exhausted just watching them. Even if I had the energy, I don't know if I could remember the moves. Coach Stacy goes above and beyond with her groups. She's patient, encouraging, and acknowledges your abilities. I saw that she supplies her senior class with printouts of the dances so they could practice at home. In my case, she is my biggest cheerleader. I used to need a spot just to get onto the trampoline or beam. Please try one of these classes, I believe the drop in price for senior dance is $5 and the adult gymnastic cost is $10. She is truly a dedicated spirit and a treasure in the community.
