I've been taking my computers there for 10 years because they were close. -- Last week I gave them a call on a Thursday, I was told I wouldn't even hear from a technician till "possibly" Monday at the earliest. As well they costs have always been significantly over the estimate. But like most people my computer is vital. SO I LOOKED AROUND! Wow am I glad I did. I will never go back to Mitec. So I drove my computer across town, and checked it in at VCC. I kid you not! -- Within an hour that same Thursday they called to tell me it was the motherboard going bad on my 8-9 year old computer. But I love my computer, right! How much. Over the phone they quoted $100 for the new motherboard and 200-250 for labor. Okay!!! Said I would get it back by early or mid week. Mind you this is the last two weeks before Christmas. So the mother board didn't come in till Thursday, which would have been sooner had it not been the busiest season at the PO. Got it back. Works perfect, nothing lost, everything as it was when it died. Get this... total service and parts were $270. Wow, fantastic. You know when you drop your computer off at Mitec... nice people and all but their is a giant wall separating you from the tech side, and you get the sinking feeling their going to hold your computer hostage. Not at VCC. Everything is there and you can see the projects their working on. There's even a sweet little Doxy who waddles out to greet you. They're friendly, understanding, trustworthy, fast and truly fair on price... What any business should aspire to being. Look no further. Ventura County Computers is fantastic! We had a major issue this week when one of our Dell Precision workstations (our Landscape Architect's computer running AutoCAD) wouldn't start. I brought it in, and within 2 hours they had it diagnosed. They replaced the failed drive with a speedy SSD, installed a 4TB backup drive, and set everything up perfectly. The machine is running faster than it ever has. I have used Ventura computers before and remember feeling I was overcharged at the time. However they fixed my computer and did a good job. Yesterday I walked in and had an issue that took less than five minutes, if even that, to find on the computer. It was just a display setting needing to be adjusted. For locating a setting adjustment on my computer that took a couple of minutes to find, it could have been complimentary in my opinion, or $25 at the most. Instead I was charged $75.00. Unhelpful, condescending and rude service......most of the time. Do not go here if you expect to be treated with respect. All of the service providers are not as knowledgeable as they claim to be. You will be talked down to, over-charged and lied to. They will add useless, un-asked-for items to your device and they shut you down if you have the audacity to question them about their service. Today I went in excpecting to get my laptop fixed which hasnt been booting, I came in to very nice service and was please. After I dropped off the laptop which keep in mind the back was unscrewed already so they could easily open it up they asked if I wanted to install a hardrvie with windows 11, I said yes and about 30 minutes later they called saying there were too many problems with the motherboard itself and couldnt even unscrew anything. I was a bit bummed after they asked my to come in and pick it up but when I went there everything went downhill. I came in and before I was able to pick it up and leave they requested a charge for diagnosing it. This is typical and not the problem, the problem is that they didnt even disgnose a single thing, no work was put into the computer, 1 The back cover was already unscrewed by me 2 they said they didnt even unscrew anything on the motherbaord, 3 they said they didnt wanna work on it since its too much work. So 60 dollars for literally not an ounce of work in the span of less than an hour. They tried to make it better saying it would cost 120 but for me it would be 60, it shouldwnt have been anything. I didnt know what to do and wanted my laptop back so I had to pay, I paid for nothing whatsoever no work at all not even a single screw was unscrewed by them!! this was very scummy behavior. With the help of my father who went back for my torubles he put some sense into them and told them how bad their preactaces were and they were absusing kids money. I wasnt aware of any charge beforhand and no money talk was every in question until I had to pickup my laptop. I should have atleasat been told what I would have to pay for them to look at it. this was very very very unresponsable. and on top of that when I finally got a refund the owner was chuckling and didnt care like he knew he was in the wrong. I bought a new laptop and although I know there are many "inexpensive/free" ways to transfer all files and apps from old to new laptop, I knew that I was just going to be in for frustration - and potentially disaster. Since I can't afford much downtime on my laptop, off the new and old laptops went to VCC. A mere few hours later, it was ready to go. Everything transferred PERfectly. I called and let them know everything I needed done (fixing the wiring installing bios on the new ssd and installing a new motherboard ram and cpu) even told them that I may need them to pick up and drop it off after asking about the price they tellvme 150$ an hour I say well your website says 90$ an hour the owner Rick laughs it of and says bidenomics sorry we haven't updated it yet I made it clear that I would prefer a lower price and Rick was able to quote me at 200$ before tax not counting the cost of the ssd and said I would have it back that day. After that his associate Adam was suppose to work on and decided it wasn't enough money and started causing problems, Without calling to tell me they decided to hold it over the weekend and said if I wanted to get it sooner it would be an additional 200$ not only did they forget about doing the bios in the ssd he just copied over an old one knowing it was different motherboards and that it would cause problems later causing me extra delays in their service and me having to spend more money and my own time to get the parts and install the new bios myself they also refused to work on the cable management at all unless I paid more and gave it back worse than before there's now a visual bend in the graphics card they didn't plug up 6 out of 7 of my fans tried to tell me it might've come loose but all of the power supply ports were just left stray in the back they just plugged up the leds to try to get me to come back and asked for more money for them to fix what they messed up and it's been 50/50 so far of weather it wants to pick up the ssd they installed with my bios anyways let me be clear tho that Rick was a great help he was more worried about customer satisfaction so as long as you know exactly what to ask for you can get a good quote otherwise Adam will find any excuse to run the clock and charge you absurd prices they're wanting 2.5$ per minute but can't even bother to make sure my fans are all running and working theyre practically doing adult legos. read more

I have an old Mac, so when I couldn't pair a new mouse to it, and couldn't log in, I "somehow" managed to enable "mouse keys", which stopped me from using my old password. After trying everything I ever knew about troubleshooting my Mac, I gave up and called the first computer repair store I found in Google. I opted to pay over the phone and have a tech give me direction in resolving my issues. Bottom line, my computer is now again running and I am overjoyed! The cost -$60 - was totally worth it. I was referred to V C Computers, a few weeks ago and am happy that I followed through with that referral. Rick received me very nicely by phone and Michael went on to be very service oriented... You ought to check out their work space... They have several computers set up around the office that they are working on & Michael was able to advise me and assist me to get my new computer set up, get the hard drive data transferred & all running well... There's a super advantage over places like the Geek Squad, where you lose your computer for 8 days at a time... & it's hard to get ahold of Geek Squad... The main reason I am writing a review is to notify Mac users to not be a dumba$$ like me: take your faulty Macbook into a repair shop that specializes in Mac repairs (or call Apple Support FIRST). The issue I had with my Mac was that I couldn't access my user account anymore, possibly due to a virus. I would type in my password, the loading bar would load to 75%, after which a black screen would appear--everything in my user account was inaccessible and that was that. After going to Ventura County Computers, I walked out paying $240. What services did I receive for that whopping $240, you ask? Well. What I got back was a new user account they created with documents extracted into that new user account. Yet... the actual issue was neither diagnosed nor fixed. And what about those documents they supposedly saved and were able to present to me? Well, the man I spoke to (this will come as a surprise to him since I didn't call to notify them after I discovered this because they clearly can't do much else for me) didn't even bother to check if those documents he extracted were viable, working docs or not. I got home, tried to open at least my school notes (since they couldn't "save" my thousands of photos in my Pictures folder), and surprise, surprise: they were *all* broken files. I couldn't open ANYTHING. Not a single file he extracted was a viable file. I paid $240 for literal actual nothing. It felt like a complete spit in my face after I walked out of the store paying what I did. Then it felt like a blow to my head after discovering the broken doc files when I got home. I know I'm one of the least computer-savvy millennials out there, but I'm not oblivious (which the guy must have taken me for). I know when non-thorough work has been done. It's not that hard to figure out. I wish the man who helped me would have at least double-checked to ensure that the documents he kept saying he saved could actually be opened. Instead, he didn't, and was happy to just throw his hands up and say he did everything he could and then take his $120/hr. Now, I know VC Computers did the best they could in trying to fix my Mac (because they said so), but they SIMPLY aren't Mac experts like those who base their profession solely on Macbook repairs are. After I received and paid for the VC Computers services, I called Apple Support and discovered that the physical service I received (which took VCC 2 very expensive hours to conduct) was something that I could have done for free with their guidance over the phone. Now, I'm not talking about the time they spent on diagnostics. Yes, VCC took the time to run diagnostics and a malware scan and had to spend their time trying to figure out what the issue was, but I know for a fact that the actual *thing* I received back was not worth $240. Here's the way I see it: as a private tutor, I charge a student hourly. However, I will *not* charge that student if I spend 2 hours laboring because I'm trying to figure that student's problem out as I go along. I'm there to provide solutions and results, not "learn as I go and do my best and still charge that student for my lack of thorough and complete expertise anyway." And yet, the guy I spoke to kept asserting that what he charged was 100% justified and would hardly let me get a word in. Oof. That's a bad look. It's a simple fact: if a true Mac expert had taken a look at my computer, they would have diagnosed the issue and solved the problem much more quickly. Luckily, I was refunded for 1 hour so I don't feel this experience was an absolute blow anymore. But here's the bottom line: just take your Macbook elsewhere. And as for VC Computers, maybe rethink that premium hourly rate you charge for Mac services because... who are you kidding? Never again. What a headache. read more

Right in the middle of our transition to virtual learning, my laptop started loading a black screen upon startup. I have a geek squad membership, so I wasn't too worried. I ran over to Best Buy the next day and their team member suggested that I purchase a new LCD for my laptop, so I did. I took my laptop to VC Computers and asked them to install my screen because Best Buy was essentially too busy. I explained my problem to Michael and he told me that he would have it for me no later than the next morning. I get a call [a couple hours later] from them telling me that they fixed my computer without replacing the screen. Hired them to fix the WiFi on my hp laptop. I installed Linux on there and it no longer supported the WiFi adapters. I researched the solution but needed to connect to an Ethernet cable to fix it and I didn't have access to one because I was down here for work on a boat. Dropped it off emailed them the link that detailed what to type into the terminal. They were backed up said they'd get to it. Three days later they charged me 100 dollars and said they fixed it. After having a problem with MS Outlook when I changed my ATT email password, I took my laptop to a local shop in Oak View. They could not fix the problem but did a work-around which was really cumbersome and annoying and they did a "tune up" which consisted of deleting several programs, including one with a paid subscription all without asking my permission. And all this required over 2 days in their shop. After looking at the Yelp reviews, I took the laptop to VC Computers. And in 1 hour, Mike had the problem diagnosed and fixed!! I cannot tell you how great both Mike and Rick were throughout the process. These guys really know what they're doing and I HIGHLY recommend them based on this very positive experience. I took my daughter's HP laptop to Ventura County Computers yesterday. It's a really good laptop that she uses for school and editing videos. It had become extremely slow on boot-up and loading programs etc. VCC installed a new Solid State Drive, in place of the old hard drive, as per their suggestion. They cloned the old hard drive to the new drive perfectly, all data present and programs present and working. As was the case when I had them install a SSD on my desktop computer, a few months ago, their suggestion to do so resulted in a computer, seemingly better than new! The laptop went from a boot-up time of 2 to 3 minutes to just seconds! Loading of programs, applications and internet went from sometimes minutes to near instantaneous! Photoshop and my daughter's video editing program have improved dramatically in performance/ease of use! She is thrilled with her "new computer"! Extremely cordial and helpfully informative staff, it's been a pleasure to have done business with them. Cost of service was very reasonable and, as is their stated usual goal, both times I have had services performed I brought the computers in the morning and work was completed and ready for pick-up the same day! We definitely have found our "go to" shop for computer repair and upgrades (they build computers as well) and would highly recommend them for your computing needs! I've used these guys several times, and they are great. Yesterday I managed to break my laptop screen, and the computer was going crazy, apparently because it thought it was getting constant touchscreen inputs. Rick said to bring it over, and he looked at it right away. He managed to reconfigure the computer so that I could still use it (just without the touchscreen) while we waited for replacement parts. I know the "big box' stores have a different process, so I'm not trying to slam them, but it drives me crazy to turn in (or mail off) a computer for several days or weeks before I even know what is wrong with it. My experience at Ventura County Computers is always so much better... they can usually fix my problem on the spot, and if they need to order something, I know exactly where I stand.
