I had so many food targets to hit in Austin and this one didn't make my priority list for lunch/ dinner but I ended up coming here for a breakfast taco and really liked it! It's a small chain in Austin that started from a food truck of two women from Veracruz. Interestingly enough, the cashew based queso here is the default so people with nut allergies- watch out! I was told it was not made in house by the restaurant and I ended up not trying it. I ended up getting the El Diferente taco, while the women at the counter recommended the Furioso. I chose it because I preferred pinto beans to black beans. I added thier salsas that were creamy and it was delish with poblanos in it. The tacos sounded really simple to me from the descriptions but I ended up really enjoying the one I had for breakfast! My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. Came on a Saturday afternoon around the lunch hour rush. Although the wait for the food took awhile, it was worth it. It was a bit noisy so if you weren't near the counter, it was hard to hear them call your name. Fortunately, they do provide text notifications when you order at the counter. I didn't realize this was a smaller location so their menu was very limited compared to their Mueller restaurant. There was plenty of chairs/tables indoors and a few set outside. I would say there were 3 "main" areas of seating. The taco meats are all well seasoned and so much good flavor. I really enjoyed the chipotle-like sauce it came with. The tacos were on the bigger side and stuffed, absolutely worth the price. The Furioso tacos weren't spicy, but had great flavors and held up well when I ate them 5 hours later. I had a hibiscus agua fresca, which was delicious and served in a BIG cup. They have filtered hot or cold water for free. I love Veracruz! I have visited their other locations, but went to the one in the Line Hotel during SXSW for the first time. I run past this location most mornings, and people are always lined up outside the window. I ordered my usual - shrimp macha taco and el diferente. I get this same order every time since these are my 2 favs. I also had a topo chico and they had cut up limes I could add. I sat on one of the couches near the bar while waiting for my food. Went today and overall left with mixed feelings. The tacos were good, but the prices felt surprisingly high and the wait was much longer than expected. Food We ordered two tacos -- barbacoa and grilled steak, both about $6.50 each -- plus a 24 oz La Jarocha juice (apple, orange, carrot, beet) that ended up being over $10. Altogether the bill came out to a little over $30 for two people. Flavor-wise the tacos were solid. The barbacoa was tender and well seasoned, and the steak taco was also good, but the portions were on the smaller side. Nothing wrong with the food, but nothing that really justified the price either. I've heard they use organic ingredients, which might explain part of the cost, but it still felt expensive for what I get. Service This is a counter-service, self-pickup setup, so there isn't really table service. When we arrived, there was already a line and we waited about 15-20 minutes just to place the order. After ordering, we still had to wait another ~20 minutes for the food to come out. For two tacos and a juice, the total wait felt pretty long. Atmosphere The space itself is actually very nice. It's large, bright, and clean, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The location right in downtown Austin is also very convenient, which probably explains why it stays busy. Overall The tacos tasted good and the space is pleasant, but when you add everything together -- long lines, another wait for the food, small portions, and a $30+ bill with no table service -- the experience ended up feeling pretty overpriced. There were some positives and negatives here. The positives were that the best of the tacos were really yummy. Highly recommend the Migos! The stickers they put on the tacos are adorable as well. The tortilla chips are thick and crispy, so if you want chips as your side, highly recommend! The negatives was the order mishap. It was really busy, so someone else tried to get our order, and one of the girls could have been kinder in helping figure out the mishap. Figured on this particular Austin trip that I should change it up and not go solely for Texas BBQ. Since Austin loves their breakfast tacos, I decided to go to Veracruz All Natural to get my fix! Got the Migas Taco, El Tradicional Taco, and Grilled Fish Taco (which admittedly is not a breakfast taco). Surprisingly, despite having no meat, I was actually more of a fan of the Migas Taco over the El Tradicional Taco. I think it was the avocado that sold me. I know people in Austin have a lot of views about what their favorite taco spot is. I have probably tried a solid 50 and Veracruz is still by far my favorite taco spot. They have a simple menu, but every single thing on there is absolutely amazing. My favorite two tacos are the fish taco and the shrimp taco. That shrimp taco is arguably the best shrimp taco I've ever had in my life not just in Austin. It is extremely spicy in the best possible way. Found this place through some YouTube videos recommending it for tacos, and since it was open later than other spots, we decided to give it a try. It's located inside a hotel, but parking wasn't too bad, we found street parking right away. The tacos were delicious, and the agua frescas were just as good. You could tell they were made fresh, the mango one tasted like it was blended right then and there. The lady at the counter was super helpful and really nice, which added to the positive experience. The only reason I'm docking half a star is because the AC was broken the night we visited, and it was pretty hot. We ended up sitting in the hotel lobby with our food.
