My boyfriend and I were out running errands and wanted something close to our that maybe had a happy hour. I was hesitant to suggest Veranda, but seeing that their Yelp reviews had improved, we opted to give it another shot. We had called twice in route to see what time happy hour ended - the manager had answered the phone, but to no one's fault the call dropped. My boyfriend then called on his cell, got through, and spoke to the manager (HR ends at 6). I then immediately got a call back from the manager who was very apologetic and was able to explain at the time he had just spoken to my bf. (All of this back story is important, I promise) We walked in shortly after the call ended and headed to the bar. I asked a man at the end of the bar if we just sat anywhere for happy hour. Low and behold, it was the manager - he was so jovial and social, recognizing that we were the customers on the phone. He immediately prompted the bartender to take care of us and that his first round was on us. The happy hour menu is extensive and perfectly priced. I ordered a glass of the super Tuscan ($9) and my boyfriend, a Stella draft ($7). Our food, surf & turf ($12), featured flatbread ($6) and we split the salmon dinner. The food was EXCEPTIONAL! Every bit perfectly portioned, cooked, and seasoned. Very glad it was because the bartender never checked to see if we needed anything - the bar back took care of several things for us- side plates, full menu, etc. He asked about a refill of my wine at the end of our meal. Bill came - drinks were still on there and Stella was not even at happy hour price. This would have been 5 stars if the bartender had been more observant. I hesitated writing this review since we have been going to Veranda since it's opening. Typically it has been a great place to drink and dine with excellent service. About 2 weeks ago we were there with friends from out of town. My wife ordered the Pasta Bolognese dish that she had had before and is typical in many restaurants. This is one of her favorites at any restaurant. When it arrived she was totally underwhelmed. Being a gourmet cook her comments to the group were that it looked like hamburger helper and it was absolutely not how this dish should be prepared and presented. But that's not the reason for the review. Our excellent waitress questioned why most of the pasta was uneaten and if we wanted a take home. My wife replied that she thought the dish was poorly prepared and "no I don't want to take it home," NOT asking for a credit or money back. Apparently on her own accord, the waitress told the chef about this and he suddenly appeared at our table. He told my wife he was part owner and took offense to her comments. He then continued to rant and argue for about 5 minutes making a bad scene with our table and guests. Recall that we never asked anyone to complain to the chef or money back. But that incident in front of guests is why we never will be back again and the 2 Star review. Warnings 1) If you do go there we don't recommend ordering Pasta Bolognese 2) if you don't like your food and mention anything the chef/owner may pay you a visit. read more

Just got home from the Veranda , I am so pissed off that I am actually writing this after just walking into the house. My French onion soup was a lump of cold cheese in a bowl of onion broth for starters. TWO MINUTES after this appetizer arrived the rest of our order arrived. Our stuffed banana peppers arrived with cold shaved cheese over them and they were cold as well. Our waitress was told and she asked if we wanted another one ! Are you fucking kidding me ? I am hot, at this point we settled for a dry semi warm burger and fries , the fries were wonderful. Last but not least cold calamari is awful to say the least - we took it home and nuked it and I finished what I could. Who is heavens name is cooking at this restaurant and who is in charge of not sending poor quality food out of the kitchen ? No Accountability just pump out poorly prepared food. How did I not know about this lovely little eatery? I'll call it Rustic luxury in atmosphere. Definitely a little higher end than what it used to be (Winking Lizard) but still not pretentious or fussy. BEST PATIO AROUND! The patio is huge with an outdoor bar and an area for live music. It is tucked away next to the parking lot but you will never know as you are surrounded by greenery. There is also a bar/lounge indoors with full service of pretty much anything you might desire. Menu is eclectic and interesting. I attended an organized event so the menu was prefix. Delicious on all counts. Great presentation. Service was capable, professional and cheerful. There is a porch area on the second floor that wasn't open the night I was there. Dining area was whitewashed open beam just like, you guessed it...a Veranda. Complete with twinkle lights. This is a TGI Fridays staff. I ordered the staple the Veranda Burger. They messed up a burger. Gross. Meat not good overcooked and soggy. Bacon rubbery and gross. We also had Rack of Lamb. We have dine here many times before tonight. However, we were charged with a extra charge to split one of our orders. When we questioned the owner, he became belligerent upon our polite and respectful question of the extra charge. In fact he insulted me and told me to take my sunglasses and go to Crocker Park. Love this place and so happy the patio is open for the summer. I have already been up here numerous times and love checking out their unique specials. I also enjoy a nice big carrot cake slice for dessert! The servers are all so friendly and make you feel welcomed. Can't wait for more nights on the patio this summer and some live music. I've given this place several chances, as it's close to home. Each time I go, I never feel welcome. I actually feel like I'm disturbing the staff. I've gone early for happy hour (4:00-4:30 PM) and I'm always told there is nothing open on the patio (all table are wide open when I get there and 80% are open when I leave). The staff sends me to the bar area, which has a strange, cold, negative vibe. I've never had a server in the bar area who appears to enjoy their job. I'd rather go sit on the patio at ZZ's or Cork and Barrel; I always feel valued at both of these places. This past week, were were a party of three at the bar. Our service was so absolutely terrible that I left no tip for the first time in at least twenty years. I asked for pepper to put on a shared Wedge salad ... which the waiters just dumped on our table for us to cut up, and it took five minutes to get the pepper. We discovered this gem on 2/6/2021. Our server was Jackie, she was AMAZING! Very knowledgeable about the specials, entrees and cocktails. We started with cocktails, the pear gorgonzola salad, and stuffed banana peppers. Walked up to the patio waited patiently for the hostess. She told us it would be a 10 minute wait. As we waited other parties came and we're seated. We assumed they had reservations. Hostess didn't speak to us. A host came by and said he could seat us and then the hostess came and told him that table wasn't available. Another hostess came by and said she could seat us at the bar or as soon as she cleared a table nearby. We chose to wait for the table. As we waited two couples approached and the original hostess seated them at the table. She then said we could wait in the rockers and she would seat us in 5 minutes. We waited another 12 minutes and then left. It seems this is a place for regulars or friends of the hostess and they aren't interested in new business. We have tried this place a few times but probably won't go back. The food is good, but the portions are enormous. We have stopped going places where we can't get something smaller. Sure, we could take it home, but it's never as good and we usually don't want to eat the same thing within a day or two. We considered the appetizer menu, but nothing tempted us. Also, many of the entrees have pasta, which is something I try not to eat for health reasons. A menu change would help, with small plates and more entrees without pasta and, most importantly, a reasonable size portion. read more

Service was great, the menu had a variety of dishes at various price points. Ambience was great. First time visit to the Veranda Bistro & Bar in Avon, Ohio for a midweek lunch. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival in the first floor dinner area just off of the bar. Our server was pleasant and prompt with drink orders and a review of the daily specials. I was glad to see that they still had the patio and "beer garden" from when this location was the Winking Lizard. Looking forward to warm dry weather visits. I had the house burger with fries while my wife went for one of the salads with additional shrimps added in. My wife's salad was crisp, well portioned with a with a nice portion of large shrimp. My burger came out to a correct medium temperature with a nice side of fries. I will definitely comeback to the Veranda to see how the dinner menu and service compares to lunch. read more

Tucked away in Avon, OH a stones throw from Lake Erie and right outside of Cleveland Is Veranda Bistro and Bar a warm and inviting place to help combat the wind, snow and the cold outside... Since the temperature outside was dropping I decided to go with the Mussels with its gralic butter and white wine broth and the rich and harty Lamb Shank braised in red wine served with goat cheese whipped potatoes and heirloom carrots and green beans.... the atmosphere was great and the service was as well...definitely going back whenever up up here on a load again read more
