It looked so cool that even though it was out of the way, after we were done from the bagnoreggio cita, we drove back to Bolsena so we can take pictures and have a meal there. Unfortunately, given our hectic schedule, we arrived too early for restaurants to be opened (6:30pm). After wandering around the small town, looking into all the restaurants setting their tables or the staff eating, we decided on this super touristy place that had tripadvisor stickers all over the front because 1. people were waiting outside for it to open, and 2. touristy places are bound to open straight at 7pm. After arriving promptly at 7pm, we realized that the people waiting outside were just staff, not locals excited to be eating in the place. We were seated in a table with red checked table cloth and give a menu of italian fare. We ordered a 4 seasons Calzone, a tortellini boscaiola pasta (creamy with bacon and mushrooms) and a side dish or porcini mushroom. The calzone was giant, but full of air and not a lot of stuffing. The pasta was unmemorable (i didnt even remember what i ordered until I checked my pics and then looked it up on their website). The porcini mushroom drenched in balsamic and olive oil was good. We didnt order any dessert (I had half bottle of wine and he had a beer for beverage), but the servers gave us this giant wine bottle that was labeled 95 percent alcohol and two shot glasses. I poured the content in a shotglass and it was chocolate syrup with a strong mint and alcohol smell. I tried very hard to drink it even though it was really thick and at first the alcohol was really overpowering, but the after taste was amazing. I was sufficiently drunk after two shots. That was the highlight! Overall it was definitely not good quality food, but it filled our tummies.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch here of Tuscan antipasti (a very generous platter of…read morelocal meats and cheeses) followed by homemade ravioli stuffed with potatoes and served with truffles and pecorino, and perfectly cooked, very thin and delicate pappardelle served with wild boar ragu. All our dishes were excellent, and we washed them down with a half-carafe of the house red wine (shockingly delicious, and only €4)! We were stuffed from our feast but couldn't pass up the dolce course, a pastry stuffed with an orange, walnut, and honey filling and then sliced--apparently a specialty of Pitigliano. We also really appreciated that the restaurant's inside rooms are housed in a tufa cave, which was very atmospheric and welcome on a chilly December day. We would love to return for another excellent meal when the gorgeous patio overlooking the gorge below is open!

Down a set of stairs we came upon a beautiful outdoor garden/dining area. We dined inside, as it was quite cold out. Lovely setting, inside the tufo rock. Nice typical Tuscan menu. We ordered crostini with tartufo but received two orders and we were charged for it. It should have been complimentary since we didn't order it. I had caco e pepe and then a scallopini dish with mushrooms; and my friends and I shared a side order of spinach. All very good. We shared a half carafe of white wine. Our waiter later showed us the tunnel area below the restaurant, which was pretty neat to see. Our meal came to 26 euros each, pretty typical. I wish I had discovered this place earlier on in my trip, as it would have been lovely to have lunch outside in the garden area.
