I arrived at an awkward time, 3 o'clock in the afternoon. It was a late lunch for me. I was the only customer in the dining room. The restaurant itself is very beautiful. Chairs and decoration were all very much with a old Mexico look and feel. I will admit that I am picky when it comes to Mexican food being from San Antonio. Maybe too picky. The waitress brought me chips and salsa and the chips did not taste very fresh, not very good. The salsa wasn't bad, just very heavy on the garlic. I ordered beef enchiladas. A safe choice I thought. The enchiladas were stacked enchiladas. Stacked enchiladas are not bad, I just consider them to be lazy. Restaurants that don't want to invest the time it takes to roll their enchiladas during prep work. The enchiladas had a lot of beef, and overall tasted very nice. It was, however, a little on the bland side. The rice and beans were nothing spectacular, and I did notice that the rice had some dark spots in it. When I examined it closer, I saw that they had burned the rice. I would grade a B minus. read more

Stopped at Verde's Mexican Parrilla after a golden retriever meetup nearby, and it ended up being one of the highlights of the day. The food was top-notch. The bacon-wrapped shrimp with tequila-lime butter was rich and perfectly cooked, and the pulled beef street tacos were packed with flavor. I started with the queso verde and calabaza cakes--both addictive. And yes, I made room for the towering slice of chocolate cake to wrap it all up. Service was friendly and relaxed. The staff made us feel welcome without rushing us, and they were more than happy to offer recommendations. The outdoor patio was ideal after a long day in the sun--laid-back, shaded, and surprisingly peaceful despite the crowd. Bonus: super kid- and dog-friendly, with a playground nearby and plenty of space to unwind. Verde's is the kind of place you just want to linger--whether you're coming off the trail, a dog meetup, or just craving really good Mexican food in the Hill Country. Update December 2023 Verde's delivers quality Tex-Mex food. Another good meal enjoyed recently... the complimentary chips and salsa are da bomb! Light crisp chips, and the salsa tastes like it just came out of the garden... super fresh ingredients! We had a couple of the "Lime in the Coconut" cocktails, reminiscent of a pina colada, but better, and not too sweet. Very good. For food, we settled on the pollo flautas (chicken flautas) and the fish tacos. Both were very good, and the flautas were some of the best we've ever had. The tacos were stuffed full of fish and fresh veggies. We sat at the bar this visit, and the bartender was super-busy, so not much time to visit. Overall, very mediocre experience and food. We walked in and were instantly sat. We were 1/3 table in the front dining area. The chairs are pretty outdated and wiggly so I was scared to move too much. We waited about 15 min before a host came by and asked if we had been helped. About 5 more minutes and she brought some waters. A couple more minutes and a random waiter came and helped us, we weren't even in his section. We appreciated him taking the initiative and helping us! Drinks were great!! I ordered a simple marg, husband ordered a ranch order. Perfect! I ordered the chicken chile rellano and the sauce was very good! The beans and rice were mehhh. Husband ordered steak and shrimp fajitas and had no complaints but just also meh, nothing special. We also ordered the queso funditio (spelling?) and it wasn't really queso? More of a melted cheese that hardened very quickly. Tasted yummy while we could scoop it out. Chips and Salsa are great! The salsa has a bit of a kick so ask for a more mild one if you don't do spicy. I ordered the Wlid Mushroom Ravioli and it was 10/10!! First time visiting and also the last...Food was mostly good (hence the two stars), and though service was good at first, it felt apart at the end. When we got the bill it seemed a bit high but we weren't able to review the breakdown until we asked for a printed receipt. As we began reviewing it, we noticed several items on there that weren't ours and our server walked over before we could ask about it. He actually pointed out there had been an error and that we would get refunded for the incorrect charges. We sat at our table for a while waiting for the corrected bill but no activity...then one of us finally got up to ask someone about it and another staff member came out to 'deal with' us. His tone was condescending and his attitude was very poor towards us. Like if we had caused the issue? When we tried explaining we had been overcharged, he proceeds to ask 'well how much do you want to pay?' Sir, just charge us what we correctly owe you, why treat us like we did anything wrong to begin with? At no point did he ever offer an apology or anything close to that. It's almost like we were just annoying him despite the fact that we didn't initiate the issue. We were being more than patient and knew they had a huge party of guests that had walked in after us. Mistakes can be made when you are rushing/multitasking. We get it. But to treat us like we were inconveniencing him due to something out of our control was not appropriate. It's too bad, the other two servers were great and we thought we had found a new spot to come back to. No thanks, we didn't deserve to be treated that way. read more

Verde's offers great tex-mex fare in an attractive setting. The pork belly quesadillas and bacon wrapped quail were excellent. The margaritas were outstanding as well. The service did a good job, as we did not feel rushed or unattended. Would prefer the salsa be spicy, but that is the only complaint I had to our evening. Upon entering, we waited a while before someone approached the hostess stand, and there was an off odor. After we were seated, we noticed a massive fly infestation. It appeared to be a combination fruit flies and regular flies. A full-sized fly landed on my arm. Other flies were swarming our table and crawling all over our food. See photos. We keep waiting for Verde to get good! It is not exactly Mexican and certainly not TMEX. I think it California Crap. No chile con carne to top enchiladas just all weird cream sauces. Sometimes the corn tortillas taste homemade and other times soured like bagged. Flour tortillias are not homemade and are gooey-not good. The guac was not good though you never know if that is the quality of the avocados or the cook. The rice and refined beans were eatable. Chips were eatable. Hot sauce too hot The queso is weird and not good. The seasonal pumpkin flan is good but $10.00 should be the side of a pie not the size of a small pancake. If they were good we would be there every week since they are close by but they are not so we try them once ever 10 years or so and each time remain disappointed that they seem to exist off of drinks and a great backyard deck for kiddos. Come on Verde, we need good food in these parts BADLY. Please develop some eatable things for us like chile con carne for enchiladas at a minimum. If you switch to Tex Mex and make it good we'll be there weekly. Otherwise we'll see you in 10 years to see if you change. Service is good but I can't eat service. read more

Overall not a great experience, my wife got a taco salad which was extremely bland and I got the chicken enchiladas which weren't enchiladas at all, it was 2 corn tortillas with a little bit of cheese and a bunch of chicken between drowned in the sauce. For the sides the beans had no seasoning and the rice was white rice with very little seasoning. Will not be returning. Only good thing was the server was very kind, though he was the only one working and was very busy by himself. read more

The service was fine, they're why this place gets two stars. The food is some of the most aggressively mediocre Tex Mex you'll ever have. Pales in comparison to Guadalupe's, Pappasitos, Lupe Tortilla, Chuys, and pretty much every other mid-tier Tex Mex restaurant. The food was delivered lukewarm to cold. The sides to the fajitas were served with a pool of liquid from the pico soaking the entire dish, alongside browning guacamole. The flour tortillas are honestly a disappointment, which is difficult to do. The steak was chewy in the fajitas. I challenge you to find a piece that isn't chewy. I challenge you. We felt like Mexican food tonight, so we swing by for days. I tried a dish I never tried before which was stuffed well. It's stuffed with Mexican rice and chorizo wrapped in bacon, and served with green beans and sliced tomatoes. It was very good. My wife had beef fajitas and let me tell you, you get quite the feast when you buy fajitas. Couldn't finish either dish but as always it looked up for expectations. It was so good a second one was ordered with the meal (I cannot recall us ever ordering a second severing at another restaurant). The guacamole tasted freshly made. Our family of five adults and one child had the "Grande Parrillada", this is served family style (for 4-6 people), it includes beef, chicken, pork fajita, 2 semi boneless quail, and 4 bacon wrapped shrimp; and includes rice, beans, tortillas, guac, pico, sour cream, and cheese. I didn't expect much after arriving at a single restaurant located in the middle of nowhere. However, Verde's Mexican Parrilla completely exceeded my expectations. I ordered take out and was pleased with how everything was packed neatly in divided containers. The food: Remove everything you think you know about TexMex (Cheesy entree with a side of Spanish rice and refried beans), replace that with no expectations. Reason being, I ordered the Stacked Poblano Chicken Enchiladas and when I opened my takeout, I saw stacked tortillas with pulled chicken and loads of white melted cheese & chopped cilantro on top-- not your typical enchilada. After taking a bite, just wow. I couldn't get enough. In addition, the chips and salsa were so fresh, you could taste the power of the cilantro. Will easily return without hesitation. read more

Really wanted to like this place but it was a big let down in food. Their service is good but food is really not upto the mark. Let's start with chips and salsa where salsa was very sour. This was a big red flag. Though queso was okay. Coming to drinks, margarita on rocks literally had no flavor and martini was even worst. Their avacado tacos needs some work as it seemed like low grade version of avocado tacos from torchys. We also ordered kids Mac and cheese where it was cold pasta with hot cheese. Side of rice and beans my wife ordered in which rice also came a bit cold. So freshness of food is also missing. Surely won't come again anytime soon. read more

Have had this place on our radar for quit sometime, sadly we just dont get over this way very often....But the stars aligned and the wife and I had the same day off. Arrived upon opeing, the place is clean and nicely decorated and on the classier side of things. We were seating and the usual starters hit the table. Chips, Salsa and Queso. They hit there mark for sure. Always happy to see a cup of Chicken Tortilla soup offered. Its an ancho based soup which makes it wicked good. Plenty of goodies in it as well....Definitely one of the better ones I have tried. We both went with the enchiladas which come in a stacked form..... Wife did the Beef with Ranchero Sauce and double rice.....Myself I went with Chicken with a Poblano Cream Sauce....Rice and refried Black beans. Everything was really good and they were stacked and packed. Plating was a bit sloppy and the service was a little off as we were the only ones there. We do go thru chips and water pretty quick before the meal arrives....which were long gone before the food showed up.....Overall we give it a thumbs up and will keep it on the radar if we are in the area as there are several other menu items I would love to try....and they offer an insane amount of different side dishes! read more
