The first time I walked in, I felt at ease and in the right place. During the first appointment we brought our 2 year old energetic running around and noisy son and they really made no problem of him being there. Actually, they liked him and gave him a cookie. The office is bright and light and right on Sarphatipark. You're welcome to come in, also when you are in the neighborhood and in need of using the ladies room (which is quite often with baby in belly). I am really happy I chose for this midwifes office. I am not a yelper who wants to add a review to oppose another review. Everybody has their own opinion and reviews in a way are subjective. I respect other's people opinions. Nonetheless, I think in this case I would find it a pity if other pregnant women miss the chance to enjoy a nice pregnancy at this midwifes office. Just because of one negative review. That's not worth it.

I rather not go on a tirade about this midwife office because it could be just me (which is also…read morereally bad if that's so), but I did not enjoy my experience at this midwife office at all. I loved two of the midwives and was super fortunate that one of them was able to be present for my birth, but I can't recommend them to anyone. If I wasn't being chastised over the phone, I was given hell for being late (literally a few minutes as I was walking to the appointments for exercise) or I was given seriously incorrect information or being "mentally prepared" to not expect to have a home birth. Ruth and Maaike are gifts from above. They were both warm and genuine from the very start and I only felt secure with them. That's part of my problem with them. Customer service is not a thing in Holland, and I understand that. But when you are in the business of healthcare, you should be warmer than what I've encountered. If it weren't for Ruth and Maaike, I'd give this place zero stars. No one welcomes you when you enter. Most of the time there wasn't even someone at the desk. That's a problem. My first appointment was scheduled at 7p and when we got there, we were sitting alone in silence for far too long (almost 20 minutes) before we saw the midwife, or another human being. After giving birth we had a terrible midwife whom I'd never met before come visit us on our 3-day post partum visit and she made my disdain for the practice on a whole reach catastrophic levels. I go into detail on my blog so I don't want to hash it out here. It's quite a shame, really. I've known a handful of other new mothers (who don't look like me) that have nothing but praises to sing. I know I'm not being sensitive either. In my final pp checkup I was advised to find a midwife that I will see for my entire pregnancy instead of returning to them. It sounds rude, but it's honest. I won't return here. Only if Ruth or Maaike go freelance.

This review is for the obstetrics department…read more During the first half of my pregnancy I had all my prenatal check-ups here and was planning on delivering my baby in the birthing suites upstairs. However, having had a tour and receiving some information on the birthing suites and how they handle everything, I freaked out. I'm definitely not giving birth here anymore and have decided to go to another hospital. Sadly this means that I can no longer receive my prenatal check-ups here as the midwives don't come to other hospitals, which is understandable. As for the midwives. Our first appointment was with Marije who was a huge disappointment. They ask you to fill out a form about your medical and medically relevant personal history before your first appointment. I'm a bit of an over achiever and answered with much more detail than I'm sure most women usually do. Even with this detailed list of all my medically relevant information she had to ask me basically every single question again. Every time, I referred to the form and my detailed answer there. The amount of detail seemed to confuse her. She confused me. We left the appointment wondering whether this woman even has a medical degree. I still wonder. Our next appointment was to be with Jenna. Finally, someone who seemed medically competent. She reassured and soothed me immediately with her personality and her knowledge. We both love Jenna, she is friendly, professional and unlike Marije actually knows what she's talking about. We continued to have our prenatal check-ups with Jenna and she left us well informed of our options after voicing our concern about the birthing procedures at the hospital. We were sad to leave Jenna, but in the end there's no guarantee that she would have even been on call to deliver our baby when the time comes, so we've switched midwives and are now free to deliver at whatever hospital we like. As for the ultrasounds, they where mostly fine. Almost all the ultrasound techs here are friendly, professional women. There was just one time when we did the twelve week scan for prenatal screening of birth defects that we had a woman who did not seem to understand her job very well. I can't remember her name, but she kept complaining that she couldn't get a clear image and implied that that was somehow my fault. I just lay there and thought "shut up and do your job woman!". It wasn't my fault, it was your fault, the previous two scans had been perfectly clear. You just don't know how to do your job. Overall we were very happy here and would have stayed were it not for the policies on the second floor. Some things freaked me out, but I recommend you come for the tour and see for yourself before deciding whether or not to become a patient here. You might agree with the way they work, I just don't and am much happier to give birth at the nearby Diakonessenhuis were a water birth is even an option. Just look into these things as soon as you can, I wish I would have known sooner and wouldn't have had to switch midwives halfway through my pregnancy.
