The classes are suppose to be 4 hours - 3 times a week. However , the class on zoom is only 2 hours. I totally understand they are doing their best. But the staff at the front desk are very rude. I asked for a refund and they hung up on me. The should at least charge half price for the sessions due to the situation. I will make sure I tell everyone I know to never go to this school. Last but not least , there are students in my class that are not beginners. They should do a level test , to rank where you start.

After searching for several months for a decent language school, I settled on Europa…read more The main criteria were: 1. Night classes at least twice a week 2. Close to my apartment 3. Small class size 4. Emphasis on speaking 5. Reasonably priced Europa fulfilled all of these criteria and I decided to take a placement test for French classes. Sylvie was really helpful and flexible regarding what level I wanted to take in accordance with my test results. The session started in March and ended in May. The classes I took were twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-9 pm. There was homework and some exams which were graded more strictly than I expected but I preferred it. The majority of the class centered around speaking and listening exercises and there were 4 of us total. It was a bit frustrating to be in a class with people of different levels but I suppose that's what a beginner class needs to be. I learned a lot but I wish it was a bit more fast-paced and stricter on how fast we needed to learn. I chose this school over the commune because of the combination of a much smaller class size, lower cost, and more material covered. I'm happy I did.

Linguapolis is a subdivision of the University of Antwerp. So that means all of the courses are taught in the beautiful University buildings. Yes, Linguapolis is very expensive but if you really want to learn the language, this is your best option. From Day One, the class is taught soley in Dutch. And all of the lessons focus on us telling about where we come from and our cultures and customs. So not only was I learning Dutch, but also about many countries from all over the world (in Level One we were with 13 nationalities!). There are many packages available. I chose to do the 3 month course (3 evenings/9 hours a week). I followed 4 Levels, so it took me about a year and a half in total. But if you want to immerse yourself to learn more quickly, there are also daily lessons.

The method and the tools are great but unfortunately I didn't get a good teacher (level 3)…read more She was basically reading a powerpoint for all the grammatical aspects, and she refused to explain things from previous levels "that's from level 1 or 2, you should study it by yourself". I studied earlier in other schools with different methods and I never saw a teacher refusing to explain important rules about grammar. Of course it was an intensive class and we could not waste time, but at the end of the course we ended up doing activities unrelated to the program... That's not logic. I would like to come back to Linguapolis for the method but I will make sure to have another teacher.
