I was happy to get on the schedule for a curly hair appointment with Gul this month. The salon was clean and thoughtfully decorated. They also had a great selection of hair products for sale, which was a nice bonus. I hadn't had a haircut in over a year, so I was pretty nervous. Gul was very communicative throughout the appointment and took the time to talk through what I wanted to do, which put me at ease. While my hair was being washed, the owner stopped by to chat and share a few stories, making the whole experience feel even more welcoming. I went from waist-length hair to shoulder-length, and two weeks later I'm still loving it. Gul did an amazing job with the shape, and I've continued to get compliments on my haircut. This is my second time getting my curly hair cut by Gul and I was just as pleased as last time. She answered any questions I had regarding what she was doing and why and how to do some of it at home when I asked. She was also very helpful in explaining why it might be harder to do a style with a lot of volume and definition at the top. Explaining that my hair was more straight at the top and that most of the curl came from the bottom. Despite this she was still able to give me a cut that balanced what I wanted and what was possible. I would also say Vero is certainly on the cheaper side when it comes to curly haircut prices It usually runs me 130 but that's just the total after tip and while that's not cheap, compared to other places, that specialize in curly hair that charge 200 to 300 dollars it feels like a bargain. read more

Vero is awesome. This salon is super cute -the environment is cozy, clean, and artsy. The stylists are all really friendly, talented, professional, relaxed...I've always felt comfortable when I'm there. They mostly specialize in curly or ethnic hair but they can do anything, every person I've seen leaving the salon looks really good. They have a small boutique section with jewelry, art, scarves, crystals, things made by real people like hand-sewn journals, as well as shelves full of take home beauty and health products you can browse while in the sitting area. They offer filtered water and nut mix if you have the munchies during long services. It's really easy to book with then you can text, call, leave a message on email or phone, online booking as well. Well, this is disappointing. I started going to JaMae for a color and cut prior to 2018. I went to her in 2018 bc I wanted to try going blonde. After that, I didn't like the maintenance/ upkeep or the effect on my hair so I started just getting a cut and light brown highlights. I confirmed my appointment with her and went to go see her on Saturday July 20 at 3pm. In the text thread I told her I just wanted HIGHLIGHTS. I'll attach a screenshot. We did the appt. It went an hour over and I was running late to meet a friend so I didn't wait for it to dry. When she told me the total was 325 I was super taken aback. Since 2018 my hair was 200 including tip. I paid her the 200$ cash I got from the atm and 125$ Venmo bc I needed to leave as soon as possible. She stated it was this much money because she gave me "all over color." I left her shop at 630 and was home by 6:45. I did text her immediately when I got home at 6:47 and let her know that I didn't understand why there was such a difference in cost. She stated it was bc cost of products went up in January/that I had 6 inches of grow out. I don't know why she didn't tell me the difference in cost PRIOR to the appointment starting but sprung it on me later. I would've changed my whole appointment had I known the total would've been 325$. I would have just gotten a cut. Also-I didn't want all over color. I wanted highlights. Unfortunately, I had to leave before I could see my hair dry because, she had gone an hour overtime and 20 min overtime and I was running late for a date with a friend. I ended up not making it to the date bc I was so unhappy with the cost and color of my hair. By the time I got home and see what it looked like I could see It was waaaaaaay blonder than I wanted it to be. It is also very brassy and streaked. I honestly hate it. After discussing the cost increase she stopped texting me in spite of the fact I sent her pictures of how she did my hair last year and explained why it was different. I also sent her a screenshot of the Vero website from her work showing how high/low lights cost 95$-125$ max. She sent me a screenshot of cost of color from SOME RANDOM PERSONS WEBSITE off google to justify the increase. Who does that? I told her I'd take her to small claims to recoup my $ because I don't like my hair and on top of that I felt like she was dishonest about the cost. I want to get it redone and that also costs $. She venmoed me back 125$. I asked for the rest of my money and she said that I don't get refunds on labor. At this point I'm just pissed. I want the rest of my $ back. I will never go to her again. I hadn't had a professional haircut in about 3 years and I was in desperate need of a chop of my waist length hair. JaeMe welcomed me in her chair and I told her that I wanted to cut about 10 inches off. She assessed my hair and was very knowledgeable of my texture, density, and which products will work well with my hair. She did not judge me for my long wild mane that was clearly in desperate need of a chop. She did not judge my horrible self-cut bangs. Where do I begin? I Yelped "curly hair" and this salon popped up. I called and had a consultation over the phone with JaeMe. She was so pateint and could totally relate to "curly talk". When I walked in the salon all the technicians were all so warm and welcoming. It's a mature crowd. Music was suttle but had your feet tapping. JaeMe called me to her booth and she could tell I was nervous. She walked me through each step. I even cried, and she was really sweet. I basically explained that I hated my hair and was hoping she could bring me back to life. *Side Note:JaeMe has been doing hair for over 35 years. She graduated from California Berkeley as an art major. She has a natural passion for hair and creativity. I FELT it in the chair. Based on a recommendation from my sister, I went to Vero for a dramatic color change and a hair trim. My sis has curly hair, and I have wavy hair. We both have very thick hair. I wanted to go platinum or close to platinum. I even had some color correction issues since I've had my hair highlighted and colored a handful of times over the past few years. The stylists (Celia, with some input/consultation from Veronica) gave me a detailed explanation about the length of time and technique they would need to employ to reach my color goal, and they also explained to me the adverse effects the coloring could have on the integrity of my hair. They were thorough in every regard. Most importantly- they listened to me! They did not try to talk me out of what I wanted, and they committed to helping me reach my color goal- although they DID make sure to tell me about any/all risks involved. I appreciated the care and attention they took in making sure I was a satisfied client, and that we came as close to my goal as possible. When it came to toning, they gave me several different options, and even blended some options to reach the perfect shades of blonde. I could not be happier with the result. My color is beautiful, and my hair is holding up well (it's been one week since the coloring) I will definitely be returning to Vero for my hair style needs in the future. I found this place on yelp and after reading so many great reviews I decided to call and schedule an appointment, especially after deciding to go gray at 35 and following the curly girl method to take better care of my hair, I was willing to pay the $95+ for a deva hair cut. Well after a couple of phone calls and leaving voicemails because no one would answer the phone, I was able to book an appointment that would be in about 1.5-2 months, again this seemed like a good indication that this place was great. Well I had to reschedule my appointment due to a last minute work commitment and I rescheduled for Mother's Day weekend, I totally saw this as my treat for mother' day. I drove for about 30 minutes to this place, got there early, paid for parking, showed up to the salon like 5 minutes before my appointment. The owner, and also the hair stylist I had the appointment with said hello and asked me to wait. She NEVER asked me to wait for 10, 15 or 20 minutes, and my appointment was at noon. She continued working on her client, dying her hair, she didn't seem close to finishing so I patiently waited and waited, until I realized that she was not being PROFESSIONAL at all, was not mindful of my time, my appointment that I had schedule 2 months ago. I also realized that she would be working on the lady's hair dye and my deva cut at the same time "multi tasking" because she was not near finishing with her. SO DISAPPOINTING! SO UNPROFESSIONAL! I also work with people and when I am running late I inform them, I am respectful of their time, I can't just expect them to wait, people have things to do, plus in my case, I paid for parking and I was running out of time, so annoying! After leaving, got in my car and started to drive back home and when I was about 5-7 into my drive, they called me, of course I didn't answer because i wasn't going to be cordial, well they called again and left a voicemail asking if I would be returning ?? Really? You noticed I left literally after 10-15 minutes, again very annoying! So, when reading reviews, read the 1 star reviews, I've learned a good lesson today, but I'm also writing this in hopes that others don't make my mistake and have an awful experience and waste of time like me. read more

After waiting over a year and spending over $100 (cash only accepted) I now have to pay someone else for a cut with a proper shape, and wait at least another year or two before it will look good, so, no, I would not recommend Jaime BeReal to anyone I like. read more

Jessica is AMAZING. I was lucky enough to see her in late August since her next opening was late September. I went there for a cut since my ends were fried due to a bad balayage so I needed help. I was so nervous since I had gone to my previous salon since 2014 but I found my new favorite place! She sat down and asked me what I did to my hair and how I treated it. I was so surprised because no one had asked me questions about my hair before other than, "how much do you wanna cut it". Sigh. I left the hair salon uber perky thinking that I had gotten a really stellar deal and a great regular haircut. I asked for a "deva" cut, but no deva cut I have ever had only took 30 minutes. I knew halfway through that it was going to be a regular haircut, but I was willing to accept it for that price. I enjoyed the conversation and the atmosphere... I took one last glance in the mirror and skipped out of Vero thinking that I had scored. Then I took a shower. Oh dear. I have a shelf of hair. But unfortunately, I had my hair cut by someone who has had little no experience and because of that, another stylist had to help her and there were two people cutting hair off here and there. When I left it looked OK, but when I got home I realized one side is uneven with the other and though it looks better, it's still uneven.
