This Sephora is unique. It's not in a major shopping mall! It's housed in a row of box stores that…read moreseems to stretch for a kilometre. I was pleased to spot this store. July is my birth month and I had a free gift to pick up. I walked into the store and a friendly woman said hi. She let me know that I could get a free facial. This store is one of three in the province that provides facial services. Cool! I browsed around. Another woman asked me if I needed any help. I asked where the nail polish section was. She told me that they didn't have one. However, I could always ask to have nail polish shipped to the store and I could save the shipping costs. Although it's a good service that exists, it wouldn't do much good for this visitor. Eventually, I got coconut lip balm. I have heard good things about it and wanted to see for myself. Paying for my items went smoothly. I pulled out my Insider barcode from the Sephora app to be scanned. The woman at the cash register said that I am the most organized customer she has ever met. That was nice of her to say, although I didn't feel like I was! I got to choose my free birthday gift. I went with a facial cream set, which is in my rental car! This store is bright and cheerful. I felt relaxed browsing around. Even though it's nice that staff give you a shopping basket, it's a death trap as you tend to buy more stuff than you should. If you can, ditch the evilness... haha! The…read moreFace Shop is slowly replacing many Fruits & Passion stores across the country since they bought them out. It's a small shop with all kinds of cute, affordable beauty regimens in appealing packaging. Although it's called The Face Shop, they do have a limited selection of products for the rest of your body such as shampoo, body wash, lotions, hand creams, nail polish etc - they even have men's stuff. I'm very happy that they sell facial foam cleansers, unlike regular face washes, these produce a thick lather that traps away dirt and oil and leave you feeling squeeky clean. They were developed for hot humid Asian climates and I always had a hard time finding them in this part of the world until now. I've been using their "Herb Day Cleasing Foam" in Acerola (cherry) scent for over a week now, I love the fragrance and texture although it'll probably be a little too drying if you don't wear moisturizer in winter months. At 5$ for a big 170ml tube, this is a steal! For such a small store, I felt like they were overstaffed the day I went - I was approached 4 times in the span of 5 minutes, it can be a little overbearing when you just want to browse on your own. Note- they are working on their North American website that will allow online orders, it's supposed to launch this month.

The staff are all very friendly and eager to serve, the place had a big grand opening last week and was a veritable madhouse. Didn't purchase anything at the time, but will check it out further when the dust settles. Since I had a very good impression when I visited, found the prices to be very reasonable, the staff very personable,I'll give it a 5.

My recent experiences with the staff have been highly variable. Consultation 1 (Needs Improvement):…read moreThis consultation was a disaster. The staff member seemed to have very limited product and color knowledge, which resulted in a recommendation for both an incorrect color and product type. This led to a very poor initial result. Consultation 2 (Excellent): The second consultation was fantastic. This individual was highly knowledgeable, engaging in a detailed and helpful conversation about hues, and clearly outlining the benefits of different product types. I left this consultation feeling very confident in the recommended color choice, which was based on my preference for a dark shade. Consultation 3 (Lacks Assurance): The third staff member was extremely wishy-washy. I had very little confidence in her knowledge, as she constantly undermined her advice by ending nearly every phrase with, "but there is no guarantee." She also negated my prior research (e.g., on measuring vs. weighing ingredients) and offered unhelpful advice, such as telling me to "just try it out, if you don't like it, you can change the recipe." For a professional service, this lack of assurance and suggestion to "experiment" with a formula is concerning. Product Quality and Recommendation Process: While I understand the staff member in the second consultation did not manufacture the products, I want to note that two of the items she recommended were disappointing: Mitchel Cream Curl: This product appeared to be improperly mixed and contained waxy bits. Canadian Shampoo and Conditioner: This item became moldy. The last 'consultant' asked if i kept them in the shower. No - I kept them on the shelf next to the rice and flour in the pantry (eye roll). Furthermore, the third staff member's approach to shampoo/conditioner recommendations was unhelpful, essentially just walking me down the product aisle, which I could have done on my own. I would expect a more curated and informed recommendation based on my hair type and color treatment. I am trying the new color from my most recent visit and hope for a better result than the first time. I look forward to returning and hope to be paired with a consultant who embodies the competence and helpfulness of the second person I dealt with.
