I dyed my hair here for the 1st time with Alberto. He gave me beautiful results, and he is very gentle. I initially was very unhappy as I felt it wasn't as dramatic as I wanted, and also because he was rushing towards the end and did not want to take the time to give me sleek, straight hair. The cut is not very straight either... I had to leave with poofy wavy-ish hair... It looked like a wig... after a few days, (and after straightening my hair) I became happy with the results, the colours I wanted started to become noticeable to me. I went to see Andrew at Vespa Hair and complained about loosing my curls. I wanted a nice haircut and colour because I am starting with a new workplace. Andrew invited me for a 15-min consultation where he inspected my hair and gave me some tips and advice. I was very happy with what he wanted to do and booked an appointment right away. She is a lovely person, modest, extremely conscientious, and she knows hair. She does not pretend. She listens, which unfortunately in the industry is a rare quality. Caveat: Since moving to Ottawa, this is the only hair design studio that I've been to, so take this with a grain of salt. That being said, I'm particular about who cuts my hair as I can be fairly picky. One of my stresses about moving here was my concern about finding a place to cut my hair well but was also not ridiculously expensive. Therefore, for me to come to a new city, go to one hair studio and stick with it? I think it says a lot. I expected that I would give this place a try and then move on to a few other places before I made my final decision. However, the first time I got my hair cut, I was impressed and have not bothered to look around. The space is nice, modern, and clean. The staff are nice and knowledgeable. The first time I went in, my stylist (Vic) took the time to ask me questions to find out what I wanted. Yeah, I get it, any good stylist will ask you what you want. However, I never once felt rushed and it really felt like my stylist was considering what I had to say. Not only that, my stylist also gives me suggestions. Sometimes I do not know what I want, and it is nice to have an expert give suggestions based upon my hair type. I've had many stylists not give any suggestions when I've asked. Maybe they were worried that I'd be upset if a style didn't work out, I don't know. I can only speak for men's hair cuts, but I find the price to be reasonable given the talent. Yes, it is more expensive than First Choice, but it's also a higher quality of service and cut. I highly recommend Vespa! Update: So basically after (almost) a year of going to Vespa, I'm officially bumping my rating to 5/5. This place is fantastic. read more

Update: Any from Vespa emailed me on the weekend in response my review here. I appreciated that she reached out to me and saw her on Tuesday. She did a heroic job trying to fix a poor cut and deserves five stars. She didn't want to touch one side in case it made it worse. I thanked her for being honest about that. Vespa are lucky to have her. Overall, I still would not recommend this salon to a friend. I had found a great salon and made a mistake going elsewhere. I'll go back to Amber in future. read more
