The style, least represented at the moment was graffiti art that for me seemed fresh and innovative. It is not necessarily the style I personally fancy the most but the standard seemed high and very streetwise. Cool.

We were persuaded to spend a large amount of money on artwork because we were told it would be invested in artwork sourced from all over the world, including auctions, art fares, galleries etc. And because we were told the gallery would act in our best interest. In reality, they only acted in their interests selling us artwork from their own stocks on which they got paid large amounts of money by the artists. Which is a huge conflict of interest. Rather than enjoying increases in value this results in the customer losing a very large amount of money Once they had our money the communications stopped and we didn't get answers to any of the two dozen emails we sent over the months we tried to secure sales.

The server behind the door, a young guy with short cornrows, had a huge attitude: avoiding eye contact, muttering answers to my questions as if I was annoying him, and just being generally unpleasant. I walked away and waited for my order feeling as if I was the problem- for god forbid paying this establishment for food. I debated getting a juice as they were cheap at £3.20 but refused to give this place any more money. It also took FOREVER for my food to arrive, despite the place not being busy at all. It seemed the cooks and staff (including that horrid server) had better time joking behind the bar than working. I could imagine your food would take centuries if one came at a busy time. The roti itself was delicious: chock full of juicy prawns, chickpeas, veg and potatoes. The roti was firm enough to hold the goodies but soft to chew and delicious. Mild spice (and this is coming from someone who doesn't do spicy sadly). It's a shame the food (and the price at £7.95 for the huge roti) is so great bc the crud attitude means I would never return nor recommend anyone would. Good riddance.

The Tabernacle is a strange place. I had heard of it when I moved nearby, but it wasn't until a…read morecouple of years ago, I discovered it for myself. Completed in 1888, the Romanesque red brick and terracotta building has been decribed as the 'Taj Mahal of North Kensington'. When the area went into decline in the 1900's it ws the centre of many slums in the area and race riots. In 1975 it closed down as a church and taken over by the local council. Demolishion plans were twarted and it was converted into the multi use community building that it is today. Joe Strummer of the Clash appeared here in the 70's and it also hosted gigs by Misty in Roots and George Melly. In 1995 it closed to be upgraded, to reopen in 1998. It is still going strong as a multi-use venue.They hold art exhibitions, concerts, dance lessons, fitness and sport activities as well as concerts. It's a great place to go for a drink or snack, and is very reasonable. It also has a full bar. I like sitting outside when the weather is nice in the large courtyard in frotn of the building. I highly recommend you visit this place, should you be in the Portabello Market area.

Every bit…read moreas much of an art gallery as it is a furnishings store... a stroll through here feels like visiting an exhibition on postwar and contemporary furniture at the Tate Modern or MoMA (in fact, I believe I've been to an exhibition at the MoMA that was indeed, very reminiscent of what they've got going on here...). Very white and wide and open, with unassuming curving walls... the space here is not only meant to show off the fantastic pieces, it is also designed with the intention of making the pieces look at home within it - and they've done a great job. There's a relatively wide spectrum of tastes and genres on display here... everything from the slightly tacky and trying-too-hard strange... to surrealistic accents and streamlined modern-but-timeless pieces that I, frankly, just lust after. Yes, if I had an entire movie to furnish, and the requisite Hollywood budget to go with it, I would have an absolute hey-day in this place!

They always have an artist exhibition going with some really beautiful pieces on offer - all contemporary artists... mainly British, but some stellar international talent as well. I love coming in here to simply admire the latest show that they have on their walls. It's a fantastic gallery with a really great ethos - to promote the work of modern-day artists who have a striking aesthetic that gives you slight pause. Right now, there are some invigorating landscape pieces on display by a lovely London artist, Gill Rocca... lots of snowy paths that fade into infinity and dark trees that mesmerize in a sapphire twilight - captivating and absolutely refreshing.

Northcote always have intelligent art. They also have amazing catalogues and I always keep mine. Northcote Gallery has another smaller gallery just over the river in Battersea which is also really lovely and friendly. Restless Earth by Daisy Cook is my favourite exhibition so far but I also really enjoyed Debi O'Hehir who does amazing scuplture of horses. the gallery also has an amazing staircase leading to a roof terrace. The light is fantastic in Northcote Gallery. I love it.

I went to see the exhibition of Churchill paintings. It was absolutely stunning! It was well…read morecurated, and the audio guide really gave you a sense of importance of painting in his life. I walked through the rest of the collection, which is almost overwhelming. There is a lot to see there. You really do need to use the audio guide, because there is so much art in a small space. I also appreciated the staff. They were helpful, without being intrusive. One of the things I enjoy the most was that people there were truly interested in art. They stopped and looked. Unlike the crowd at the National Gallery, which just went up to a painting, took a photo, and left without ever even looking at it.

Wonderful collection of European paintings and decorative objects. Whole gallery were well…read moredisplayed and easy to navigate. The best part of the collection was, to my taste, European weapons/armory on the first floor. This section is huge and ranging from Middle Ages to late 18th century. The gun selection is exquisite. If you are studying armory, this is a place to visit. Admission is free and accessible. You can easily spend two to three hours wondering and enjoy the atmosphere. Staff are helpful and willing to help. There is a restaurant/cafe to refresh after long day of sightseeing.
