For veterans, by veterans. Your classic dive bar. It's dark and smokey in the downstairs members lounge. Free pool tables in the back. Staff are salt of the earth folks with one thing in common - respect for veterans. Nice surprise, the craft beer list is outstanding and the prices can't be beat, beers are always fresh and always something new to try. The catch is, you must be a veteran with overseas service time or a guest of such a member to be allowed in. Upstairs function hall (open to public for rent) has been freshly painted (no more dark wood panel everything) with new round tables. Throw some tablecloths and centerpieces down and this place looks pretty nice. The bar for the function hall is like stepping back in time, darkly lit with one tiny tv, some vintage neon beer signs, no stools, cash only. Bartenders know what they're doing, drinks are cheaper than anywhere in the city. They let you use the kitchen to cook for your event. Believe this is the largest hall in the city holding about 400 people. Overall could use some updating, but that's part of the VFWs charm. read more

They are building a new Hall. This place has done so much good in the past. A real staple in the community. It'll get better.. Been going there since I was a kid with my relatives....I think the folks are great. Biggest issue is staying current with the number of vets leaving us. I'm a VFW Life Member and have been for the last 26 years. I've been in VFW Posts all over the world and can honestly say this Post is the only Post that I have not felt comfortable in. Dingy and dark, with patrons who don't seem to care that the language they are using isn't acceptable. Looking for an evening of camaraderie with my fellow veterans, I quickly finished my drink and left. The Commander and his officers should be ashamed of this Post. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. The manager Mr. Golden is not so golden. He is the rudest person you will ever meet. I had booked the big hall here for a surprise birthday, and two weeks out we had to cancel it. Now I have lost the $300 that I had paid. I had my sister go there to cancel it and get the money, he yells at her, and tells her I had to go there. So I call because I'm out of state. I told him we had to cancel it and we just for d out, stuff happens. As a veteran I feel like this VFW is not veteran or people friendly and don't recomend this place to anyone! read more

As a Veteran and a member, this is one of the most friendliest places you will find in Lowell. The patrons here greet you and guests as soon as you walk thru the door. If you are new they make a point to welcome you. There are (2) function halls that are reasonably priced. We have a variety of craft beers that are reasonably priced and constantly changing.
