While visiting friends in Pass-A-Grille, I had the opportunity to stop by this wonderful market in Saint Petersburg. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but step indoors to a bountiful array of fresh produce. Prices are quite low, and they offer a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. In addition, there are nonperishable items and an array of snacks and salsas, many made locally. Also, 99 cents for a dozen eggs. My friends have been going to "the produce lady" since they moved here eighteen years ago. If I lived here, I'd be a regular too. read more

Owner is very bad man, store never pickup the phone, they do not know how to take care of the market! i dont recommend going to this store to nobody because half of the food is in bad condition and the owner is the cheapest person you can find. i dont trust him and the employees are not good with serving. go to Walmart and dont let them have a single penny from you guys. read more

VGP Produce is located in the Corinthian Plaza, which has seen better days. There is a good selection of produce and other basic grocery items. The quality of produce is uneven, we bought cherry tomatoes but passed on all the bananas. Prices are high, similar to Supermarkets but without the quality or variety. Staff was friendly and eager to sell you additional items. read more

This produce store is looking for a lawsuit the lady that works there this morning needs to be educated on service dogs. She denied me entrance when I went to get the service dog paperwork to show her she hit in the back. This is her car and she locked the door to prevent me from coming in with my service dogs. read more

5 stars for the freshness and prices- Honestly, there is no way I could write down everything I purchased from here for $31.24. Let's just say that it was 4 grocery bags full of fruits and veggies and if you saw me walking out you might have thought that I was the healthiest person on the planet. What you might have missed was me walking directly into the meat market next door and we'll get to that in my next review. Back to VGP - they have everything that I need for a week's worth of vegetables and they sell a few other item's such as basic grocery items, honey, and bee pollen. The cherry tomatoes I purchased were delicious. They actually taste like a tomato and not like that tasteless - pink stuff that Publix or Wal-Mart pushes as vine-ripe tomatoes. A nice little produce shop tucked away, but conveniently located in a small little strip mall. I was looking for local honey; they have a variety in different sizes and about half the price of a shop advertising local honey about a mile away. The shop owner was a nice older woman who greats customers as they walk in the door. Nice selection of produce and great prices. They also have a nice selection of banana breads; about $3 a loaf. Great prices and yummy bread; will be back for more. read more

VGP Produce was a great find! We noticed this place when we were driving to the Walmart that is right around the corner. We saw the sign saying that they had many foreign grocery products and decided to stop in. The grocery side of VGP is fun to look at. There are many neat and hard to find products (from jelly to cheese to chocolate to sauces). The real gem for me was the produce side of VGP. They had incredible looking produce despite these freezing January temperatures AND the produce was super cheap! We left with a large bag full of produce for only $6.95 (2 green peppers, 3 large onions, 2 plums, 2 bananas, 2 kiwi, a large tomato and I may be forgetting something...)! The green peppers are about double the size of any I have been able to find at a local grocery store and cheaper. We are really happy we found VGP and we will definitely be returning for our fruits and vegetables in the future. read more

This is a great produce store with a wonderful array of other products in the room beyond the produce: cheeses, meats, eggs, many frozen items; then all the canned ithems from Eastern Europe and Allesi's. I love everything about the store except often prices are left off products, and the receipt does not show the item and its price, so there is no way to know what an item costs unless you ask. If these price policies were clear, I would give 5 stars. read more

I can't believe this place has been right around the corner from us! Great prices (I'd give them 5* but a lot of their prices aren't marked), greater selection than I expected. Nice people. Some International choices I was unfamiliar with (having never been to Albania), but look forward to trying. No more Publix/Instacart produce! VGP probably has it, and if they do, it looks nicer and is cheaper! I do wish they (and their customers) would wear masks, though. read more

I absolutely loved this market. I went for an unusual item, jicama, that was overripe. However, we discovered many other fresh fruit/veggies. Also, I was having horrible time with allergies and was able to purchase some local honey that cleared me right up. Found a number of Italian pasta's that were a lot of fun. Love stopping by there for some cheap fruit and veggies. The flavors are much better than at Publix, although some fruits/veggies are not as pretty looking. They also have some exotic fruits, such as dragon fruit, which I love. For $8 we left with a pound of mushrooms, tomatoes, an avocado, and bananas. I've been going to this place weekly for the past 10 months, how have I not reviewed it yet?? This place is AMAZING! Hands down, a million times better than any other place you can get produce (yes, even Publix!). Rarely is my bill over $20, last time I bought: 7 apples, 7 peaches, 7 bananas, 2 sweet potatoes, 5 lemons, a bunch of asparagus, 2 heads of purple cabbage, 6 tomatoes, and a bunch of fresh basil; all for maybe $17. The other day I realized my peach tasted weird and couldn't figure out why; then I remembered I bought 2 at Publix to tide me over to the weekend when I could get to VGP. The fruit tastes a million times better (yes, really, a million times better); it may not look as pretty, but it is SO much fresher! read more

I went here based on the positive reviews I read about on Yelp. Prices were very affordable and the husband and wife running the place were very, very nice. I spent $52 and some change, and unfortunately I wish I could get most of my money back. I don't know if I hit it at the wrong time, or what the problem was. I guess really I should have returned the bad stuff, but it's about a 20 minute drive for me, so I figured I would just take this as a lesson learned. I bought huge beefsteak tomatoes, and they turned out to be flavorless. I bought navel oranges, and when we cut into them, they were completely dried out on the inside--not juicy at all and obviously past the point they should have been sold. I bought pears, and the same thing--they were hard and crunchy, and even after putting them in brown paper bags to ripen them up, they still were tasteless. The grapes were okay, but nothing spectacular. The banana bread I bought was good, but I think that is made elsewhere. The yellow squash was soft and squishy within 3 days of purchase. The worst was the bag of potatoes, though. Three days after purchase, I went to dump them into my sink to wash them to make a pot of mashed potatoes, and worms fell out with the potatoes!! YUCK!! I don't know if they were worms or maggots but it was disgusting!! I still have a watermelon we have not cut into yet, and some corn on the cob. I'm really hoping these are better than what I have encountered so far! Sorry to leave a negative review but it is an honest review, maybe I will try again some day in the future but probably not anytime soon. Fifty dollars is too much money wasted for me. I did also purchase some herb plants--rosemary-and their prices for herbs were a better deal than the grocery stores. read more

Very disappointing. I used to stop at this produce stand often when Walmart was nearby. I haven't been there in awhile and stopped a few days ago looking for apples. The apples were small and didn't look great so I passed on them. But I did see red seedless grapes for .99 a pound. When I opened them last night, half were bad. No joke, I had to throw away 50% of them. I won't be going back to the store. read more

You get an enormous amount for your money. We love this store. Interesting mix of customers (visiting foodies, Quebecois out of towners, locals). The breads, jams and other ethnic products are really nifty to browse (and try once in awhile). The selection is Eastern European/Balkan mainly (not Asian - you can visit other stores for a good Asian selection). I also visit the "older veggie/fruit" bins for great deals on produce to bake/cook right away, or blanch, freeze/preserve etc. (apples and tomatoes for instance - recently, leeks). Although very well aired due to multiple entrances, the smells are "as a small greengrocer should be" (not a big sterile plastic retailer). If you come from a more rural place, it'll take you back/transport you to a better place and time, let's say, pleasant from sensory point of view. They have very convenient extended hours, really nice because sometimes you just have to run out and get something you forgot for a recipe. Cozy little place with very sweet proprietors. Smack next to Ryan's meat market at 7925 38th Ave N #5, St. Petersburg, FL 33710 across 38th Ave from Lighthouse Car Wash. Signage not good. It's hard to find, but it's a big pinkish building that is unmarked from the 38th Ave side. read more

I was at the business a few days ago, their produce is not always fresh, some of it needs to be used right away, some of it is fine. My concern on that day was the way the owner, was treating an elderly couple who was ahead of me in line. Usually the ladies are running the register, on this day it was the man, who is the owner. The couple were purchasing $6.00+ of produce, and were told they could not use their credit card because it was under $10. No where does this state this. I have always used mine. I explained that I always use mine, that the ladies always take it. He was rude to these people and told them they needed a pin number. They didn't understand why, and I was trying to help them. They finally purchased their food, not sure how. When it was my turn in line, the owner yelled at me, and told me to mind my own business, that he was not making much money off these people, and didn't want to use their credit card. He was very nasty to me, and told me not to interfere. My feeling is if someone is being abused, I will interfere. I felt very bad for this couple. I left, without my purchase, and will not return to this store. I would not recommend it. read more

we love vgp produce. lived near them for 20 years and moved last year but still go there to shop,. wouldn't dream of shopping for produce anywhere else. they have a huge variety of vegs. and fruits and lots of other delicious and some unusual foods. everything is always fresh. they are extremly friendly and warm and we believe very honest. a great find for us for sure!! read more
