Great ratio of dough and toppings for this type of pizza. I love how you have the options to cut it twice into strips instead of blocks. The outside was crispy and inside was soft. Toppings weren't too overwhelming. They were also great for leftovers the next day. The beet was good. I actually enjoyed it but I wish there were more toppings. Staff was nice . This is not the first time I've visited Via 313. The first couple of times, I went to two of their Austin locations and enjoyed the pizzas. They weren't the best Detroit-style pizzas I've had, but they felt fresh -- the ingredients seemed premium and almost homemade. This time was different. The experience was flat: the flavors and texture felt worn out, and there wasn't much to celebrate. Via 313 somehow felt like a national chain pizza -- not much taste, not enough caramelized cheese on the borders, too spongy without the airy texture that characterize Detroit style, and lacking that crunch in the crust. My recommendation: if you're in The Heights and want Detroit-style pizza, go to Gold Tooth Tony's. It's slightly cheaper and the quality is slightly better than Via 313. Go to Via 313 if you want to stay in the Heights and be served at a table. However, if you want the best Detroit-style pizza in town, just go straight to Pizaro's -- note that this only applies to their Detroit-style pizza. read more

They specialize in Detroit Style Square Pizza but also offer bar style pizza which is thin. I've enjoyed both styles from them. Staff is always friendly. I haven't had any issues finding parking in their parking lot but I can imagine that it may be hectic during busy eating hours since it is shared with other restaurants and businesses. They have a monthly special which I always enjoyed trying. You can also download their app and track your points and may even have a coupon reward. On an early evening after coming back from late Livingston with the fam I was unsure of what I was going to eat, but my fam knew what they wanted which was flower child on Shepard... little did I know I saw a Via 313 Pizza right across from the flower child, so with high expectations I had to tap in. I go in and notice they are busy busy busy. The lady at the bar taking orders and making sure customers get their orders was nice, but seemed overwhelmed a bit. I put in my order for the Detroiter a large. My food came out like 15 mins. I thought that was pretty fast for a Detroit pizza, but nonetheless the time it came out was appreciated. I also ordered the cheese sticks. The cheese sticks and pizza tasted like disappointment. The dough tasted old like it had been sitting there pre made frozen or pre made and had been sitting for a couple days in the fridge. The Marinara sauce tasted highly processed and the olives I added to my pizza tasted chewy as well as the pepperoni. The cheese tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. The cheese sticks tasted doughy. I got 2 sides of ranch and the ranch smelled and tasted preservative heavy. They don't make it in house like some pizza places. I was Extremely disappointed. I wouldn't come back. I hope it was just an off day but still. I didn't even take photos cause I was pissed off with the pizza. I didn't even finish it either. I've been to early location in Texas, Austin, San Antonio and houston. I've also been to blue pan in Denver. It's safe to say that I love their food and support them at every location that I can! With all that being said, I visited their newest location in Houston and it's top notch just like all of the others! Grace is an absolute professional and is doing a great job at this location. I've been searching for Detroit style pizza like I had when a child visiting family in Detroit. I remember it being thick but airy & buttery. This is the closest Detroit style pizza I have found in decades of searches. It truly is delicious! Ingredient ratio is just right too; not just plopped in the middle. We sat outside. This was our first time trying Detroit style pizza and I would say it's definitely an acquired taste. We opted for The Detroiter..Customer service was mediocre granted the young lady was new we weren't explained much or suggested anything.. So based upon the pizza the crust was very light and good, the large size of the pizza definitely was enough. However me personally am not a fan with the sauce on the top. I had a very pleasant experience at Via 313 with my son. We were greeted by the staff and they were very friendly from beginning to end. They have options for both Detroit style pizza (thicker crust) and bar style crust (thin and crispy). My son was adamant about thin crust cheese, and we were recommended to split the pizza with different toppings (awesome ). They have a good beer selection too if you're into that like I am. Got a tip that this place has a good GF crust so I called in (at a different location) and got a good feeling as a result. We're still on the hunt for a local pizza place for my 3 year old who has multiple food allergies... and he only likes pizza from one place in San Antonio. His requirements: to look and taste like regular pizza. For reference: he's allergic to wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, avocado, pineapple, and kiwi. On top of that, as a family, we're allium free vegetarians. So I went with a friend and the kid in question for lunch on a Friday. To my knowledge, I believe there are 3 locations in the Houston area and this one is in the Heights across from Flower Child. There are a few parking spots right at the front but there's ample parking spaces on the lot when you drive further in. There were a few occupied tables but not very busy - I'm under the impression they may have recently opened - and the guy behind the bar took care of all the tables. They specialize in Detroit style pizza (think deep dish and square) and bar style pizza (think thin and round). Everything is made to order. They have GF options, note what is vegetarian, and offer vegan cheese. In fact, they sort of boast how they can cater to various diets on the menu. They also serve alcohol, ice cream (contains eggs, milk), and have appetizers and salads. During lunch, there's a lunch special for either 1 slice for $5 OR 2 slices plus a salad and fountain drink for $12. I opted to get a large (4 slice) portion of pizza so I could bring home extras for the family. I went through the food allergies again just to make sure since I hadn't called this location. The GM came out to assist. Guess what? Yes, they do have a GF crust option only for their Detroit style pizza, BUT it's made from gluten free WHEAT flour. Think lactose free cow milk, but this is wheat flour where they removed the gluten. So this is good for those with celiac or a gluten sensitivity, but not for someone with a WHEAT allergy. We weren't keen on experimenting in an uncontrolled environment, so he didn't get to try any pizza. However, they were very helpful and... we asked if they could do melted cheese with spinach on top for him since we were already there. He did manage to finish almost half before it started coagulating, so that was something! I ordered the Herbivore. For those who avoid alliums: the sauce they use for the Detroit-style pizza is allium free. I only ordered it without onions and it was perfect. Not too greasy or very salty with a pillowy crust and crispy edges. It's refreshing to not have to change menu items too much. On the other hand, the sauce for the bar style does contain alliums. Since I love sauce, I stuck with the Detroit. My omnivorous friend got The Cadillac (she originally wanted a mushroom lovers version, but there is none here) and she liked it well enough, but she's on the fence on whether or not it was worth the price. Her favorite part was the fig reduction but wished there was some tomato sauce on there. Or perhaps she wanted more of a heavier drizzle. Overall, everyone was very helpful and apologetic that they didn't have something on the menu for my kid when we went specifically for him. The bartender (?) kept on suggesting meat options even after I mentioned I was a vegetarian, and my kid was as well by default (was never tested for allergens to food we don't eat), which I thought odd but also amusing. Decor reminded me of MOD Pizza but car/workshop-themed and was clean. A good place to go to with options for the rest of us... but not the kid. Glad to have tried out this place, though! There seems to be an abundance of pizza places in the Heights, but one thing sets this place apart - It's Detroit style by way of Austin. I've had a Detroit style pizza before from another spot in Houston. I enjoyed it, but wasn't super wowed by it. I was excited to try 313 though because they specialize in this specific style of pizza. The restaurant has a big spot that is shared by other businesses in the strip. We came on a weekend and didn't have problems parking. As we walked in I noticed a bar area with TV's which is cool, but they do have plenty of regular seating. Our server was cool enough to explain Detroit style pizza and that they have bar style pizzas available too. We got the roasted artichoke appetizer which was basically a marinara dip with artichokes - I thought that was ok. For pizza we all shared a Detroiter. I liked the simplicity of the pizza, and i actually like the thick chewy crust and the toasty edges. Overall good pizza! One complaint I have was that the light they have at the booth was super bright. Luckily there was a switch and we turned it off. Via was one of my favorite pizza places in Austin and I'm so happy the restaurant has expanded to now a couple of locations in Houston. They specialize in Detroit pizza. And in David Portnoy's words: Detroit pizza is like an offensive lineman- looks heavy but light on the feet. We got caesar salad and brussel sprouts to start the night. The caesar was delicious with unique parmesan crisps and a light anchovy taste that I really enjoyed. The brussels were all right. We mainly just got it for vibes, but they aren't the crispy kind I normally enjoy, so I'll probably skip that next time. For pizzas, we got the ambassador bridge, bobo brazil, and the cadillac. All perfect and you cannot go wrong with either. Personally, I am a corner girl- they do the cheese crust so crispy and yummy here. If you have never tried detroit pizza, via 313 is a great place to try your first slice! I will say, food does take a while, so come if you have time to spare or are with friends! For Texas this was very good pizza, not saying NY type but the square was phenomenal in texture and taste. I was excited for Via before they even got to Houston because they had a great social media presence and the food ALL looks AMAZING. I was finally able to go a couple weeks ago and it was everything I hoped it would be. Sat at the bar. They had all day happy hour. Had the artichoke and the omnivore pizza and did a happy little dance with each bite. Everything was so good that the bartender explained its because they don't have a deep freezer. Meaning. So this was my first experience with Detroit style pizza and I do love me some pizza. This place offers your traditional style but if I made the trip I might as well go all out. I chose the "Detroiter" , which the staff did inform me would be about a 25 minute wait. Let me just say that it was definitely worth the wait and then some. The crust was thick but very crispy and not heavy on your stomach. It was like eating a fresh baked loaf of bread. I highly recommend this place and I have already been back. This is a pretty cool place to devour Detroit style pizza! I have never been to Detroit or have the experience of tasting a Detroit style pizza so I have nothing to compare it to. This restaurant is located in the same block as many great restaurants in the Heights and have a large shared parking lot. At first, I thought it was an order at counter and seat yourself establishment, but I was wrong. This is a full service restaurant and there's also a bar. We were quickly greeted upon entrance and led to our table where out server met us with enthusiasm. Since we've never been to a Via 313, she was able to explain their menu and gave us some suggestions. We opted to try the Detroiter (cheese, 2 kinds of pepperoni, natural casing on top of the cheese, smoked pepperoni underneath with Detroit sauce, and oregano) in their small size which claims to feed 1-2 persons. The small pizza comes in the form of 4 rectangular slices, which takes roughly 20 minutes to make in their kitchen. Come hungry, but don't come starving is what I recommend! While we waited on the pizza, we had their B & C (broccoli and cauliflower, roasted with garlic and olive oil, topped with balsamic glaze and smoked salt). While it was surely appetizing and delicious, the portion size was a little small for the price tag. When our pizza finally arrived, it was piping hot! The edges are so cheesy and crisp while the crust is thick with a good amount of grease. It is definitely not your typical pizza from any chain and can't be compared to fast food/frozen pizzas. The pepperoni is everywhere and the sauce is so tasty! We washed it down with the Rock & Rye Faygo pop, a Detroit sodapop. The flavor of the sodapop was like vanilla cream soda, something that went well with the savory pizza slice. We also tried their cinnamon sticks for a sweet ending and it reminded me of something between a cinnamon roll and a cinnamon sugar pretzel with glaze. This dessert was A-OK but I would stick to just the pizza itself next time. A nice touch at the end of the meal when the check came was that they give you some Dum Dum's. Even though I live 5 minutes from the Memorial City location, I think I prefer this location! It's not crazy busy like the Memorial City one was when it first opened. Everything was fantastic! I ordered the herbivore and it came out cooked perfectly and minus onions as I requested. I always get two meals out of their small pizzas, which is great because leftovers are excellent. Our server was Grace, and she was truly the best! Very personable, attentive, and helpful. We got a complimentary order of cheese sticks amongst other goodies. She also let us know that Wednesdays are half off wine by the glass or bottle! If you haven't tried Detroit style pizza, I would recommend making your way here. Too many instragram ads decided to influence me to come by the new Via 313 pizza location on Shepherd Dr. We started with a round of salads since we did a BOGO promotion on two Detroit style pizzas. We started with the antipasto and Caesar salads. The antipasto was great. Light dressing with plenty of flavor. Just was missing onions. The Caesar comes with a Parmesan crisp which is yummy. The dressing personally is too fishy. The pizzas all came out in a timely manner. There was plenty of staff. The detrioter had a hint of a kick in the sauce which I enjoyed. The bar pizza is a good stable slice. The drinks were typically full thanks to one of the busers The brand new picnic benches are still a tad rough. But I'm sure they will get better with time. Overall it was clean and nice to have a good patio spot with tv for the Astros game. Plenty of seating inside too.
