Oh my gosh. What great bunch of guys. We had a totally safe trip and the drivers were very skilled. Some of them speak english pretty well others don't but my spanish was enough to get us through. If it's important to you ask for a driver that speaks english otherwise they know where to go and how to get you there safely. For the price and where they go to it was totally worth every penny. When you come to Oaxaca you have to see the ruins of Monte Alban. It is beautifully located near the city centre on a hill overlooking Oaxaca de Juarez and the outskirts. There are a lot of tours that offer a tour guided tour but it is way too expensive and not worth it if you ask me. I always recommend this good and fairly cheap transportation to get to the ruins. It is located just two blocks from the famous food market: 20 de noviembre. As you can see in my photos the bus leaves every half past and you can take any bus back every whole hour from the ruins. It costs 55 pesos for a return ticket, a very fair price. Note: do not forget to keep your ticket because they might ask for it on the way back, normally you don't need it but just in case. This company also organises fairly priced tours to other places such as El Tule (a huge 2000 year old tree), Hierve el Agua (a natural infinity pool with petrified waterfalls, a definite must see!!) and of course, as the name of the company; Mitla (ruins with beautiful shapes and figures). read more

If you want to go to Monte Albán on the cheap, this is your best shot. For only about $3.25 (55 pesos) per person, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican experience of riding in a bus on a winding hillside road with views that are as breathtaking as they are terrifying. This bus will pick up locals along the way, and you might have to stand. Look for the waiting room across the street from the hotel. They don't speak English, but odds are good you'll find a backpacker who can help if you need it. All they need to know is when you want to go and when you want to come back. Buses leave for Monte Alban every half hour from 10:00 - 15:00 (3 PM), and for other spots at 10:00. read more
