We were delighted to find this well-kept park not far from the highway. There are two expansive, fenced areas for small dogs and large dogs. Each area has benches and even a picnic table for humans. For the canines, there are trees and plenty of shade. A huge bonus for us was that both times we visited, the park was completely empty! Not another dog in sight. I know some people go to dog parks for socialization, but our dog prefers to play by herself, so this was a big win for us. It's surprising it is not used more given how clean and beautiful it is. Also, the park wasn't littered with old balls and toys like our dog parks at home are, which was refreshing. It really felt like we were just in a big, fenced, grassy area! I don't recall seeing a water fountain or water bowl for the dogs, which is the only reason I'm not giving this park five stars. This part is adjacent to an RV park and there was a connection for water across the street, but we didn't try to use it to give our doggo any drinking water. On hot days, hydration is must for dogs! Make sure to BYO water and bowl. Overall two thumbs up, highly recommend, and if we pass through with our dog again we'll be sure to stop by.

The large dog park has some hidden areas of water so beware if you don't want a wet dog! Also another thing to note: the water is located on the other side of the road from the dog park and there are no dog bowls so bring your own! Felt super safe with a Sheriffs office down the road. Would definitely stop here again!

I have visited most major battlegrounds, forts, courthouses and buildings from these two eras. I don't really consider myself a history buff, yet I have visited several historical places. This park is certainly the most beautiful monument dedicated to war. It is also in a very beautiful setting. Abraham Lincoln donated these lands to preserve the history of the wars, and that was a great decision. Vicksburg is not really an easy access commute from anywhere, visiting here requires effort, and this park is well worth it.

Incredible place to soak in a key military battle of the Civil war. The grounds and surrounding hillsides are beautiful and well worth the drive through. Our visit culminating with seeing the gunboat ironclad Cairo. I learned so very much about the ironclads in general and the Cairo specifically. If you are any sort of history or Civil War buff this is a must see.

The Cairo was sunk in 1862 in the Yazoo River and lay forgotten until it was raised in 1964, revealing a time capsule of life aboard a Union gunboat. The restored vessel is a formidable testament to 19th-century engineering & military strategy. Inside the museum we saw an array of artifacts recovered from the Cairo displayed, including personal items of the crew, naval armaments & the ship's massive steam engines. Exhibits detail the Cairo's role in the river campaigns of the Civil War, its sinking by an electrically detonated mine, and the incredible salvage operation. This museum educates about the technical and military aspects of the era and tells a compelling story of innovation, warfare, and preservation.

American history can sometimes be thought of as dull, but I think the people who believe that lack the ability to imagine a time different than they live in. What the shipwrights had to do to create this vessel, and then consider the soldiers that served on it and the accommodations they put up with to defend our country this is just incredible. Very few today could've dealt with this type of environment. Take a few moments and close your eyes and imagine the life of a soldier on an iron side boat. This exhibit is well laid out, but it is what you make of it. Well worth the experience.
