Heard about this hidden gem from friends for a long time & tonight I finally pulled the trigger - boy was this ever a chance worth taking First off, understand that Vicky's is anything but fancy - this is a small takeout spot that has but a few tables, if you're not looking for ambiance and are ok with styrofoam takeout containers you'll be good to go. Opted for one of their platters - the come in a wide variety of sizes & include your choice of rice, beans, meat & plantains or veggies...went with the yellow rice, black beans, pernil & plantains and I honestly can't find anything bad to say about it - some of the best rice & beans I've ever had with a gargantuan serving of pork shoulder on top, the gentleman preparing my meal was even nice enough to ask if I wanted some of the skin...no brainer here, and it was perfectly crisp & delicious Absolutely amazing grub that I can't wait to try again soon - next time I'll definitely throw in some of their empanadas as well, the flavors sound incredible and I've heard amazing things Thanks Vicky's, be back soon! read more

Hello everyone, here's the deal..... if you are going to judge a book by its cover, want to be pampered with linens and table service, then this place isn't for you. If you like to go to a good old local joint where all the locals plus many more go for great food, then this is for you. The only reason why I went here for lunch today is because my son veered off sunrise highway once he realized that we were close to this place. My son frequents Vicky's casa del sabor and couldn't say enough about this place. He raved about the empanadas (order in advance!) And so we stopped in. There is a large counter filled with hot dishes, pork, chicken chorizo, rice, beans etc. Since we didn't think ahead for the empanda order, we decided to go for the pick your meal (I forgot what it's called). You can get them in small, medium or large. My son got the large with pork, chicken, beans, plantains. I ordered the medium which came in a round pie tin. Both our orders were abundantly filled!!!! My chorizo was out of this world sand the pork just shredded apart with the fork. The food was awesome!!!!! So when in the area, make it a point to stop in fit some great latin fare!! read more

So glad I found this spot. I stopped here for a quick lunch break since I was in the area and enjoyed it. I ordered three empanadas and they were so fresh and delicious. The best one I ordered was the Hawaiian empanada, it had pineapple, ham and cheese. Honestly one of the best empanadas I've ever had. I will definitely be coming back here if I'm in the area. Vicky's Casa del Sabor is my go to spot for Columbian food. There are plenty of places from Astoria to Jackson Hts to Westbury but there is only one Vicky's !!! My family and I drive from the Bayside / Little Neck area well north and west of Lindenhurst for the extra large platters of pernil, baked chicken, pepper steak, spare ribs w/ yellow rice, black beans, sweet plantains and vegetables. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Vicky's home made empanadas which my kids love and the sandwiches are to die for. I lost my appetite in the first few weeks of the COVID-19 because Vicky's was closed. She has re-opened for take out only. Due to the high demand it is best to call your orders ahead of time and don't forget to bring cash as Vicky doesn't accept CCs. Looking for an inexpensive, tasty and variety of empanadas look no further and come here! It definitely isn't a nice sit down restaurant so if your looking for that then this place isn't for you. This is the place you call in advance place an order and show up 20-25 mins later to pick up. It can take some time so I definitely suggest calling in advanced. I placed an order for 6 empanadas and a sandwich showed up 20mins later and still had to wait 10mins. It's located in a very small strip mall with about 6 stores and located next to a school you can easily miss it. They have great deals for food party trays. Oh and cash only! read more

Finally got to try Vicky's Casa Del Sabor. I had this place bookmarked for quite a while, but never made it over to that part of town. Parking here is a nightmare since the spots out front you have to literally back up into the actual street to get out. Instead, park along the side. VIcky's has bowls you can customize with rice, beans, your choice of protein, and plantains. I went for the "medium long" bowl, which was $8.50. It's essentially the same size as one of the rectangular styrofoam containers the halal carts use. I went with yellow rice, black beans, and their pork shoulder. The man behind the counter was very generous with my bowl. He kept grabbing more and more meat to put on and even asked if I wanted some of the skin (of course I did!). He finished off the dish by ladling some of the drippings on top of the meat and letting it soak into the rice. I also picked up some empanadas, which were delicious. They were warm and crispy, with great flavor. They were also a touch larger than normal empanadas. The guy behind the counter actually custom-made me an empanada. I was craving some sort of beef, cheese, and jalapeno empanada, which wasn't on the menu, but he made it for me anyway. It took 7 minutes to freshly fry the empanadas, but it was well worth the wait. When I got home, I realized he had unfortunately forgotten the plantains, but the custom empanada makes up for that. I wish I had the plantains though, since the subtle sweetness would have made a good contrast to the rich bowl. The pork shoulder was delicious and the rice with pork drippings soaked in really made the dish. Next time, I'll have to ask for some guacamole or salsa or something to brighten the bowl up a bit. I'm definitely returning to Vicky's for more! read more

Finally tried out Vicky's Casa Del Sabor. My roommate had been craving empanadas from here for about 2 weeks and couldnt wait to come try it out and we finally had the chance today! We got there around 10:20 when they were opening up so the food was definitely very fresh. Employees seemed busy but one of them was very helpful in going over the options of empanadas, burritos, tacos and platters. I ended up choosing a small platter as well as the cheeseburger and chicken, bacon ranch empanadas. My friends ended up getting a whole collection of empandas. The cheeseburger was our favorite out of the empanadas. The small platter was packed with so much food as well as plenty of meat. The one big disappointment was that they didnt have any plaintains which i was really looking forward too. Overall i would rate this place a 4. Empanadas were fresh and tasty so those were definitely worth it. The platters were very large and filling but did lack flavor. The platters were also supposed to come with veges or plaintains, and i was a little disappointed that neither were available, especially the plaintains. Pricing was very good, especially for the portions given. I would definitely recommend this place just for the empanadas alone! read more

Had heard good things so I decided to give it a try. Coming from Queens I'm used to restaurants like this. It offers Spanish dishes and empanadas (which was my reason for coming here). They run about 1.75 each and are quite tasty. We tried the beef, cheeseburger, triple cheese and bacon cheese. No complaints here. Will definitely be coming back in the future. The empanadas are on POINT, but everything else I ordered was not good. I ordered guac which had tomatoes in it and did not taste fresh. They were mushy and tasted extremely sour, which ruined the whole thing. If you can order w/o tomatoes then you're ok. The fried pork was way too salty for myself and my garbage can son. For some reason I thought I was getting fried pork skin (chicharonnes), but it was chunks of pork w/ no skin. So I only ate 1/3 of the items I bought. I give 5 stars for empanadas as well as for the customer service because they are very nice and I will be back for the empanadas. read more
