I go out for a meal about once a week. Sometimes expensive for special occasions but normally cheap and cheerful mostly ie Wetherspoons or local pubs. Usually we know what to expect and rarely have reason to grumble and I have never up to now had to record a complaint.
This is the second occasion that I have had eaten the buffet meal at the Victoria. One the first occasion I thought that the stuffing balls had not been cooked and the vegetables eatable but not to restaurant standard.
We went on this second occasion because it was a convenient location. There was a party of three. we all ate most of the buffet meal but when the waitress asked if the meal had been satisfactory. All three of us pointed out that the leeks and the red cabbage dishes were not cooked. This resulted them being taken from the buffet table after being tested by the staff. I have never before experienced this in several decades of eating in out on many locations. This indicates lack of any control or interest in the kitchen
We could have been more critical to the waitress about the quality. Specifically, the sausage was obviously the poorest quality, the cauliflower was in some kind of thin white sauce, the carrots albeit cooked were obviously the cheapest quality judging by their appearance, the roast potatoes had obviously been cooked and left standing for some time the outer skin being quite tough. The meat albeit small in portion was acceptable. The plates were heated but all the food was barely warm.
Yes it didn't cost a lot, but we will not be returning. Definitely not recommended.
Awarded one star because the waitress service was good. read more
