Ever wonder where you can get a copy of good old Filipino movies? No, not in Quiapo but in West Avenue, Quezon City. Video 48 located in the first floor of building 48 in West Ave. is the only haven for Filipino movies in Quezon City that I know. You will be surprised by their collection of copies of independent and old local films that you never even thought still existed. They also have a small library of Betamax and VHS tapes along with framed posters and old photographs (with autographs) of Filipino celebrities like Dolphy and Susan Roces. I think the owner is also a collector of action figures that's why a few of his toy collections are also displayed there.
If you're a 90's baby, you'd probably perceive this place as a reminiscent of old movie-rental stores found in local neighborhoods in the 90's or of stores like ACA Video and Video City. Like those, membership and movie-rentals applies for Video 48 as well, I think that's P500.00 worth of annual membership fee. But not to worry if you live far from the area because they also sell copies of their collection of films for P150.00 each. This is where I scored my copies of Mike de Leon's "Kakabakaba Ka ba?", "Kisapmata", "Itim" and Lino Brocka's "Tatlo, Dalawa, Isa" and "Insiang", which during that time were really hard to find!
I, myself is a movie collector that's why I hope this place would last. To me, this gallery-like of movie collection is a treasure shared to the public. read more
