I worked at Tomorrow's World from 1997 to 1999, but I was a customer from 1989 to 2013! I used to work on a Friday Nights and it was heaving! Excitement on kids' faces when they got a game or a video/DVD. They'd then scramble for sweets and popcorn before rushing back to their parents car to get home quick! Adults would get just as excited as the kids - especially if they managed to bag a very new and popular release just as the little "OUT OF STOCK" tag was removed from the display cases - you know what I'm talking about! Hahaha! In my years working there, 99.9% of the time the customers and staff were all very happy with Tomorrow's World and what it offered to local community. £3.50 for a new release Overnight Rental is now an absolute SNIP in comparison to the £15.95 "Rental" for new release on iTunes and Amazon Prime etc. What an absolute shame that "Love Film (Now Amazon Prime)" and "Netflix" contributed to the demise of such an industry, only to massively inflate the costs on movies once the "competition" had been removed. I for one would love to see the re-emergence of such an industry, purely to be a part of the community and re-ignite that excitement of the EVENT of going to the Video Library. I would absolutely work for Tomorrow's World for FREE (the odd night here and there) to get this sadly forgotten industry going once again! Antony - Tomorrow's World Employee 1997-1999

What a lot of DVD rental shops lack is old movies or box-sets which they have plenty of here. The rentals are slightly cheaper than the likes of Blockbuster; you can get a DVD/Game to ret for £3.50, or 2 for £5. They've got a loyalty card system to encourage regular renting, although I think blockbuster have the exact same thing as well. The range offered here is perfectly adequate, although nothing that really separates itself from bigger rivals or even shops like Video Box. Thankfully for Tomorrows World though; they are the only DVD shop for a mile or two.

That said, not all of us can afford to spend our hard earned cash on brand spanking new products, and if it weren't for second hand stores like this 'un, most games would be off the shelves in a couple of months. Gamestar then does something that bigger chains like Game don't do. They sell great games, from many eras at damned decent prices. I picked up a completely unscratched copy of Okami for £10 here, which is practically unheard of! There's plenty of more modern "hardcore" games here to sleight your thirst with, as well as more one off fun purchases. And Gamestar buy back games too, so you could get some extra cash towards your purchases... But if your anything like me, then you'll probably be happier seeing your collection grow ever larger rather than yo-yo with the days of the week. Of course, prices range hugely across the titles and systems, but with buy back deals that can be as little as £1 a night (honestly!), and some seriously cheap gems to be uncovered, you should definitely swing by and see if you can bag yourself a retro/ cult bargain. Go Gamestar!

Inside it's just as impressive - with huge glass windows, high ceilings and wide open spaces. There's a great study area for students, a lounge area where people can relax and read magazines and newspapers and a big I.T. suite where you can tap and print away. The problem is... the lack of books! You'd think being a library you wouldn't be able to move for books, right? If only. There's probably more books on one floor of Waterstones than there is in this whole building. Maybe they ran out of money and couldn't afford many? Maybe they think everybody would be so floored by the building they wouldn't think of borrowing a book? Who knows.

Though I've used lots of libraries since, and many much larger than the Jubilee (university libraries etc.), none have been as visually stunning. I am not always a fan of modern architecture, but the clean lines and sheer size of this glass building make it a pretty impressive structure. Easy on the eye? Yes. Heavy on the books? No. Like Sarah-Jane B., I am baffled by the Jubilee library's paltry selection of literature. It seems such a shame to build a library of such epic proportions and then leave it virtually empty! It's almost as if they let the architect order the books and s/he carried the minimalist theme right into the library! On a number of occasions I have looked for a book only to find they don't have it- they have even had to request inter-library loans for me. Is it just me, or does it seem ridiculous that the smaller Sussex libraries are lending their books to Brighton's central library??? Aside from the book deficit (which is a pretty major problem), this is a nice, quiet place to read and is in a great location.

It's not that great for fiction, theatre or modern art books (9/10ths of my bookshelf), so I don't come here very often, but it's the sort of place I can imagine liking more as I age and the books I like start to grace its shelves. It's not young, it's certainly not hip or cool, but it is impressive to behold, and a great place to find hidden gems. What I have looked for, and enjoyed the selection of, is non-fiction here. There are a huge variety of old classics here, especially in the psychology section: all of the classics are here, and in ample quantities. I suppose this is the kind of shop to look for strange old books over looking for modern and exciting pieces, but since that really isn't me... I'd recommend it if it's you though.

Don't expect trendy music, a in store coffee bar or the latest fiction or Jordan biography. What you can expect are shelves well stocked with leather bound tomes and grimoires covering most fiction and non fiction genres. I am a bit of a collector of random metaphysical texts and such like and can spend hours in here searching through the shelves for something out of the ordinary. Usually, anything I come across is in my price range also, which is always nice. The gentlemen running the store are also very nice and always patient to indulge a heavy browser like myself. Sadly, I rarely walk in here with a clear title I am hunting for, but I get the impression that if this was the case they would be very helpful in sourcing a copy for me. If you are more into your contemporary paperback, they also have a selection of reasonably priced title out the front of the store and I have picked up a few bargains here by sorting through the fruit boxes. If you are in the city and after a title, you would do well to keep this place in mind.
