Tonight we joined family at the Association in York for dinner. Now, this is a members-only club, so it is not open to the public. The first thing you notice here is the pricing. Definitely lower than competitive public restaurants. The water here is gross. Definitely non-filtered tap water. We started with New England clam chowder and chicken satay. Both were excellent. For entrees, we tried the stuffed flounder, crab cakes, seafood trio with haddock, fried oysters, and haddock sandwich. The entrées range from a seven to a nine, so pretty decent. One miss was that we ordered french fries because we were told they were fresh cut. They clearly were not fresh cut and they had to be sent back. Probably the biggest fail was the crème brûlée. 3/31/22 I had occasion to go here after my uncles funeral less than a mile away for the funeral luncheon. The location was good for me because if the proximity of the church to The Viking. Parking is plentiful in the parking lot and on the wide not congested street. Of course I went to the wrong parking lot and the wrong entrance. Not surprising, this is me after all. I liked the retro signage and the club was built in the 1930's. Loved the old school retro- feel. The interior where I was was clean and restaurant-banquet like. The tables nicely linen flanked. The food was good. Fresh fruits, cheeses, grilled veggies, and shrimp cocktail. Hot selections were fried chicken nuggets, fried shrimp, fried mini crab cakes and it appeared to be two kinds of hot creamy dips- one was spinach- I didn't try the other. Signage on the food would have been good, but I'm not picky. The help was very nice although they never offered to even refill the water pitchers on the tables. The facility, while old- was clean and operational. Bathrooms were clean. My Uncle was a lifetime member here. I thought it was a good experience over all and I liked the history of the building. Viking Athletic Asso - Crab cake - York, Pennsylvania

Went as a guest of a member. Had a good seafood meal, so we decided to join the Asso. Got our membership card about 5 weeks later, so took the wife out for another seafood meal. Ordered Crab cakes and Fried Oysters. The Crab Cakes were overcooked on the outside, and raw/runny on the inside. Called the waitress over and she returned it to the kitchen. Seems that the oil was too hot. While waiting for the Crab Cakes to return to the table, my wife took a bite of a fried oyster, and almost immediately threw up on the table. She said they were rotten, so I bit into one. The oysters we were served were BLACK on the inside and putred to the taste. We decided we had had enough. The waitress was returning to our table with the Crab Cakes, and we informed her what had happened. She asked me what I wanted her to do with the crab cake, and since we were not staying, she put it in a styrofoam container. We got a bill for over $40. and had not consumed a single bite of food. I tried to inform the door greeter as to what had happened, and she could have not cared less. Needless to say, when I got home I sent and Email to the club manager, After 4 weeks of no response, I threw away my membership card. I will never return to this club again, even if someone else is picking up the tab. Absolutely the worst diining experience in my lifetime. BTW....the crab cake we took home was uneditable.
