The Viking Cooking School is a great weekend getaway and fun way to relax and learn some new skills. Everything is very well prepared and the instructor was very calm, cool and encouraging to all participants- both inexperienced and very seasoned cooks as well. You can always learn something new when cooking with other people and in a small class setting, it was very much a learning as well as enjoyable experience. The food was also very ample and very great. A very well rounded meal was prepared in about 2 hours and an additional hour was spent enjoying the fruits of your labors with fellow classmates. Class size was 12 so everything was very personal. Will be looking to repeat in the future. Staying at the Alluvial Hotel makes it literally just a few steps away- directly across the street. read more

We were on a road trip through Mississippi and we had to make a stop and take a class at the Viking Cooking school! It was hands out and we were able to make our actual food that we are going to eat! Our teacher was amazing and the food was so good! We actually are planning on making the same meal for our friends when we get back home! It was well worth the cost and experience! My husband and I got a gift from our 6 kids to go to the Viking cooking school for Christmas. The food we prepared was great, the chef was very knowledgeable, fun, and just sweet as she could be. We were paired up with a great couple from LA. We also stayed at the Alluvian Hotel, and it was wonderful. The bed, the pillows, the staff was great, plus it was right across the road from the cooking school. It was a great weekend with the hubs. read more

I've not had this much fun in a long, long time. Our class was a HOOT! (It helped that we also had adult beverages.) Loren was such a great teacher and the food we made was sooooo delicious! Of course we had to shop in the store before leaving...we got many gadgets and treats. We are already thinking of the next trip! I'm telling you, coordinate a class at the school with a stay at The Alluvian that is across the street...you will not be disappointed. This was an awesome "couples trip"!!!! read more

Lunch is from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Dinner is from 5:30pm to 7:00pm. A meal consists of a drink, plate of bread, appetizer, entree, and dessert. Entire cost of a meal $7.00 for students and $10.00 for general public after tax. The quality of the food is on par with eating on the square. You can't beat the price and quality. The students are always friendly and it is a lot of fun to eat here. Where else can two people have a nice sit down meal for less than $15 bucks?

I've returned to Lenoir Dining several times over the past year hoping that it will improve...or…read morethat they'd at least provide comment cards since the goal is to educate hospitality industry students. The food ranges from good to inedible. Today is an example of typical Lenoir quality: the salad was good, the watermelon salsa was all yellow, watery and did not taste of watermelon, the beef kabobs were tasty but overcooked, and the turtle brownie desert was a messy pile on the plate...ugly, drenched in caramel, and littered with burnt chewy parts. The service and the atmosphere is always awkward. The dining area is a long narrow space and groups of servers (students) pile up at one end of the room chatting, with the cash register at the other end right next to the tables. It is dreary, and feels more like a funeral home than a casual dining venue. The students are learning and the price is reasonable for a 3 course meal...if it was all tastey. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect the managers, chef and staff to try to learn from their diners. Time to expect more of Lenoir Dining...or I'm calling chef Ramsey!
