I chose the seafood pasta, hubby ordered the carbonara and our friends ordered the lasagna. For starters we had a garlic pizza and the polenta with bolognese. Oh, every bite of dinner was delicious and I wanted it to be a never-ending meal. We love finding fantastic Italian food when we travel and we succeeded! Its Mediterranean tapas or pizza's, so good food to share. I've had lovely calzone's from Puccini and its a good lunch spot for me really as you can relax on a sofa and enjoy a light bite. This would perhaps be less of a faux pas if it were painted on one of the garden walls, but instead, this lurid, ill-conceived, badly rendered piece of art covers the full extent of one of the interior walls. Perfect! I guess that they decided that the mural might up-stage the sizeable statuette of David that they have in the garden?! Love it, love it, love it! This is not to say that I don't appreciate high design, I do! But I would hate for everywhere to look the same. Besides which, corporate homogenisation of interior design is usually little better than appalling. Sports pubs, family pubs with their awful carveries on Sundays, fast food chains and supermarket cafes all make my skin creep! Give me Puccini any day of the week! Their mural may not have been painted with the skill of the Sistine Chapel, but I bet they thought long and hard about it, and chose a subject dear to their hearts. With terracotta walls adorned with what my mother would call 'typicos', (ever since her two week holiday in Madera, where everything on sale in the souvenir shops that was characteristic of the island was labeled 'typico', for the benefit of the tourists), it makes for a pleasant setting for a relaxed evening out. Although occupying two floors, it still manages to retain an intimate feel. The food is a synthesis of authentic Portuguese fare and classic Italian cuisine, and quite unsurprisingly, there's plenty of meat on the menu. Porto Due is probably most famous for its Kebabs, served on large metal skewers, measuring about a couple of feet in length, that are hung from the wooden beams above your table. All options are available with a choice of beef, pork, lamb, fish, chicken or a mixture of all five, which is then drizzled in garlic butter and served with fried potatoes and vegetables. It's food with a touch of theatre for the more dramatically inclined. The waiters apply the garlic butter by tying it around the tops of the skewers and then vigorously rubbing it with a cloth until it melts its way down the meat. If you prefer fruits of the sea there's plenty of choice. The muscles are particularly good, (I'm reliably informed... I don't like them myself), and are made in the unfussy traditional way, then piled high in big dish. They look impressive, and smell pretty good too... lots of garlic and butter... so they're bound to! Inevitably the wines are great. Italian red is my wine of choice wherever I am, so I'm well served here. There's some full-bodied Portuguese offerings as well. The only down side of eating here is if you have a vegetarian in your group. There's a couple of veggie options on the menu, but they're nothing to write home about... standard veggie lasagne, amongst one or two other pasta dishes. They're made extremely well, but are hardly inspirational.

I remember thinking as we walked into the building that the wood fire oven, which was set in plain view of the tables and seats, was a good sign. Usually those ovens mean that pretty good food will be delivered to the table. In addition to proudly displaying their working oven, the place featured two levels of seating options and a "minimalist" appearance that I really appreciated. Not only did it help a place that looks a little small on the outside feel spacious, it also let in a lot of natural light through the entire establishment during a very beautiful day. Since my travel buddy and I were visiting in September, fall flavors were inching into menus everywhere. Prezzo was no exception: one fall special that caught my eye was a pumpkin and lobster pizza - a pizza featuring spinach, cherry tomatoes, red onion, basil, roquito chilli peppers, bella lodi and mozzarella cheese on a pumpkin puree base. Ultimately my dining buddy and I ended up sharing one of these pizzas. We admittedly didn't read the menu as closely as we should have and so we were surprised by how hot the peppers were - that was entirely our bad, though. They weren't bad as a topping by any means, either. And the other toppings definitely helped to balance out the peppers, so the meal we got was ultimately quite tasty. Very creamy, too, between the cheese and pumpkin base. Unfortunately, as good as the food was, the meal here was not perfect. The general delay in service others have mentioned struck at our table as well - I even avoided finishing my pepper-topped pizza until another round of water was brought out to the table at one point. I remember thinking how silly it was that no one would come by more often to check on our drinks, as the place was practically empty while we were dining. Fortunately, this was one of the only places during our trip where their wi-fi actually worked, so while it did mean we were left feeling thirsty periodically, my dining buddy and I admittedly didn't mind the slow service for the most part. It just meant we had a chance to check our email and whatnot. Overall, the place's look and set-up impressed me, the food left me happy and satisfied, and while the service was not perfect, the wi-fi at least was. It is quite a small place, with some upstairs seating and toilets being upstairs other than a disabled toilet, but the upstairs seemed to be rarely used. I came here today just to order a starter and my dessert, the prices were reasonable however a little pricey, but with my Tastecard, I was able to get 241, which gives 241 on all food excluding sides between Sunday and Thursday, excluding the month of December. I started off with a Large Pan Cipolla, which was basically a gluten free garlic bread with cheese and onion, I was originally gave a funny look and reaction from my server just for ordering a starter, the service in general seemed a little slow, despite not many people being in the restaurant, however there did only seem to be one main server working, and someone else going in and out, as well as 2 chefs in the kitchen. The food was okay, but sadly it was nothing more than that, however as per usual with most pizza bases, I've got from Prezzo, this was disappointing but expected. Particulary good value is Salé Pepé's roast of the day which varies ( as you would expect) from day to day and costs a mere £10. As well as all that, there is a loyalty card scheme which entitles you to 15% off future visits and is good for multiple uses until April 2011 ( mine is already a bit battered looking)
