Starting with the ambience - it's a very modest atmosphere, almost homelike and you feel comfortable at once. There are several previous award plaques and football tees on the wall reminding of the old glory days. The menu is hand written and only displayed at the entrance of the house, so once you get in you are the mercy of your server to tell you about the options available. The starters have 2 options (eggplant rolls or potato with shrimps) and the main course has several varieties of pastas (around 5-6), there is fruit platter and then filter coffee with a mini canolli. The star of the show is definitely the food, its light, fresh and well prepared - nothing fancy but at the same time a lot of the reviews have hyped it to be the "best" or "awesome" - I am no expert on Italian food, much less Sicilian food but there are definitely much better options in São Paulo. However for the region, this place is great bang for buck ! Coming to the service portion - it's cordial but a bit slow and at the same time you really have to pay attention to options presented if you are not a regular or did not read the menu at the gate (yours truly !) - the food does not take long to come but at the same time, you can feel it's fresh. The portions served are good and you don't feel over stuffed or underfed. The garlic bread is quite thin and oily, not at all crusty and substantial as it should be. The caprese salad are large beef tomatoes instead of flavorful Romano tomatoes, with only a half-round of mozzarella, topped with a ton of olive oil and packaged basil (not FRESH, whole leaves, as it *should* be). The ratio of cheese to tomato and Basil as a result was waaay off - it should have had 1-1-1 ratio until the last bite. The white ricotta was mostly flavorless with a slightly mysterious metallic taste. Not good. I was looking forward to biting into some nice, big slices of ravioli with ricotta oozing out, as I'd had so many times before elsewhere and instead I received bite-sized pre-packaged ravioli that appear to be boiled in plain water. The cheese inside was flavorless and chalky/dry; not at all what I expected for a ricotta filling. It should have been packed with flavor and bursting from the pasta. I picked the napoleon sauce because it's a classic, but this was not good. It could not mask or make up for the lackluster ravioli. Not nearly enough flavor. Could this be canned? I make far better than this at home. I tried my FIL's agnolotti with hazelnut, spinach and ricotta white sauce, and it was just as flavorless. Lastly, we received desserts which were also underwhelming. The tiramisu should have been light and fluffy; a dreamy experience. It was hard and was basically coffee-flavored ice cream. The "papaya cream" I expected to come out like ice cream thigh, and instead it came out like soup. Interesting... Very disappointing experience. I would've expected more for an Italian establishment that has been around for as long as this one has.

We had no trouble getting a table, but we went early by Brazilian standards (7:30) on a Sunday night. I imagine it gets quite crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. I thought the prices were inline with what I've paid at other nice restaurants in Sao Paulo - about R$40, $20 U.S. - for pasta, a bit more for the meat or seafood entrees. We were all too full to think about dessert (the portion sizes are quite generous), but I would like to come back to try them because I've heard good things!
