new fav place to go…read more needed a quick tea break, decided to call in here. Sean (hope I spelt it right) greeted us as we walked through the door, which was lovely. My husband got a drink from him, I ordered tea and that was brought to me by a smiling Alex. we then ordered a snack, we weren't hungry but the smells coming out from the restaurant or kitchen were gorgeous! Husband ordered Halloumi fries and I ordered a slice of apple pie with ice cream. This was brought o to the table by the happy, chatty, Sophie. They made us feel like regulars, and were very happy to see us. we were made very welcome, even as the place was starting to get busier. We were even given a lovely goodbye as we left. We feel like this place is going to become our home from home .........

I came one evening for dinner and ordered fish and chips. They warned me that it would be 45 minutes and at dinner that was fine. I was having a couple beers and conversation. I came back for lunch the next week and ordered a sandwich. It took a solid hour. My colleague ordered a burger, and after 40 minutes they came and informed us that they had no buns. Another 15 minutes and they had buns. But it seems like they went 40 minutes before they even figured out that didn't have buns. So prices are average. Quality is average. Location is whatever. But service is slower than slow.

If you're ever in Liverpool and you need a place to rest your head, I recommend this charming…read morelittle place. Located on Hope Street this little hotel offers a handsome interior décor. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms, though small, were classily done in basic white and wood with exposed brick. Loved the simplicity of the place. The bathrooms had heated towel racks and mirrors (never have to worry about steaming them up). The down side: I think our room was recently painted, as you could still smell the fumes. Also, as like many hotels, it was a bit loud. You could hear people walking down the hall and the band playing downstairs. You could also smell the kitchen - as they have a wonderful restaurant attached to the hotel. Maybe ask for something other than the first floor.

We stayed here twice the past year when we went to watch a Liverpool game. It was fine the first…read moretime we stayed. The hotel rooms definitely need an update. Everything is worn and old. Bathrooms are tired looking. Little things like taps for the faucet is located in a weird location that makes it inconvenient to turn on and off. The showers are horrible because there is no door so the water splatters everywhere in the bathroom. It wasn't well designed and needs a total remodel. However, the reason I give it one star isn't the old fixtures and design. It is the horrible service in the restaurant. We went there twice to sit in the bar area to get some snacks and drinks. Both times, no one approached us until I got up to ask how we place an order. There was enough staff but were ignoring us. The second time, I was sitting by myself and no one approached me to take an order although one of the server spent almost 10 minutes chatting with one of the patrons. Clearly she had all the time in the world. I patiently waited staring at all the staff trying to get their attention but they just walked by without even glancing at me. My husband finally joined me and sat down. As soon as he sat down, a server came to take our order. I realized they were ignoring me because I'm Asian and he is white. The staff here is very racist. I wouldn't recommend coming here unless you're a racist and you're okay with this behavior. We are never coming back here.

It's hotel time! I haven't done one of these in a while. And what a great place to do it in,…read morebecause this is a hotel that manages to exceed many an expectation. Even though most people breeze by here on quick work or business trips the restaurant is always highly recommended with a chef willing to accommodate all needs no matter how late or early you need a bite. Talk about comfy and clean too. The rooms are well equipped and fairly spacious, and the bar and lounge areas are comfy and tranquil. Plus the staff bend over backwards to ensure you're having a good stay, and the place actually manages to retain a lot of character which is unusual considering the sheer volume of corporate-focussed chain hotels you come across these days. The building is lovely, the location is just the right distance from town and transport links but still feels tucked away and peaceful, and everything's mighty efficient. What more could you ask for?

From the outside it looks like a nice old stately home, and it's set in a beautiful area of Wirral known as Oxton, who's village is 5 minute walk away and has some lovely little bars and restaurants in if you don't want to eat at the hotel! It's a quiet place in a quiet area so it's really easy to relax and enjoy some quality time at the Shewsbury Lodge. All the staff are very pleasant and the chef will bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy your food whenever you want too! The rates start at about £165 for two nights in a double bed, which is perfect and affordable! The hotel has a lot of character so I very much doubt that you will be disappointed!
