I got to get some pictures, tie up some loose ends with a very helpful librarian, went on a little side quest to the the second floor in the business room where I found a few amazing books that were showcased. I love that they showcase books as looking through the isles is a little daunting. Using the online portals to sign out books for book check out is an amazing tool. Book drop off drive through is great, don't even have to get out of the car. Parking is by meter conveniently all around block. Lighthouse is so neat! The children's area librarians are incredibly sweet and knowledgeable, you see a lot of the same staff here which is also telling of an environment I feel. Inner city so it sometimes it attracts loitering, but overall it's well kept.

We hadn't intended to visit the Charles Allis Art Museum over our weekend in Milwaukee, but when we…read moregot our tickets to tour the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum a short walk away, they said our ticket also got us into the Charles Allis. So we walked over to check it out. The building feels much less like an art museum than a historic house. The house was completed in 1911, and it is beautiful. We did a quick self-guided tour through each of the rooms, but we didn't stay long. There's art in each of the rooms, pieces collected by Charles Allis. I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this museum, but it's not a bad place to visit if you're in the area and have a few minutes to spare.

(To quote their website). My son and I enjoyed our visit on a MAM reciprocity day. We were greeted warmly, and given a map and information on the temporary exhibit and permanent collection when we entered. The survey of Wisconsin art "Forward..." new art by seemingly younger artists, was cool, and hung throughout the Museum. The exhibit was a nice compliment to the older art, which includes pieces by Winslow Homer. Part of the charm of visiting the Allis Art Museum is seeing period art displayed in a period space. Rooms dedicated to the Barbizon or Hudson River Schools are also amazing for their period furnishings and history. See the Billiards room in the basement for a single lane bowling alley reminiscent of "There Will Be Blood", and also a creepy shower with a "Needle" faucet- What? The newer Rahill hall looks like a big old dance hall, and would be a cool space for a small event or mixer. I'm surprised to be only the sixth reviewer for this gem of a museum.

The venue is stunning and it's a cool event. Year two was a little underwhelming. We didn't enjoy the exhibits as much, the food choices were underwhelming and the drinks were expensive and boring. Year three, this year, we were once again impressed by the event. Some designs you love, some not so much. The museum, however, has stepped up their food offerings and specialty cocktails and therefore created a more cohesive vibe. They do seem to have multiplied their security staff by about 4X during the show and the guards were a little bit intrusive, but I get it. And yes, I took a zillion pictures every year, but they are very specific to the event and didn't represent the normal vibe, so I'm not sharing them all here.

You can park free on the street in front on Saturdays. The building itself is stunning and worth it. The vaults are incredible. The beer exhibit is very detailed and very informative. I am not sure what would normally be on the second floor but they said there was a wedding later that day - there are many weddings here on Saturdays. I was hoping for more.

The main exhibit might be up for a 2-3 years and then there's a new neighborhood exhibit series that is set to change up more frequently. I visited my first time during Milwaukee Museum week so admission was FREE. But I would pay full admission ($8) if you really want a deep dive into Milwaukee. When I dropped in, the beer exhibit was up so everything displayed related to Milwaukees's beer culture and history. It was FASCINATING. There's also an actual bank vault inside the building that was used in the filming of the movie, Public Enemies, with Johnny Deep. You can walk inside the vault. The space is also worth mentioning - lots of marble. It's just a fun place to escape to. I recommend you plan to spend at least two hours here if you want to really read all the information on display and see all the artifacts. Parking might be tricky - street parking is the way to go if you can find a spot.

I feel like everyone knows the dmv isn't the most fun place to visit. This one lives up to the…read moretypical standards, long & slow lines, staff that isn't exactly friendly, and other visitors that just weren't happy to be there. I went recently to get a "real ID" ahead of some upcoming trips, as airports now require it. I was sure to check online prior to make sure I had everything required, which includes a birth certificate, my marriage certificate for proof of name change, my current drivers license, and two proofs of address. Mind you, if you don't have the things, you will be turned away. Oh and proof of address needs to be something like an energy bill & mortgage statement. I filled out an application upon arrival, waited in line, had my photos taken, and then waited for my number to be called. It was a fairly seamless process, because I had all that was needed, and only cost $14 which really surprised me. All in all, be very prepared with what you're coming for. Multiple people were (rudely) turned away during my visit and no one really wants to have to make more than one trip here.

I can't give the service an honest review, because what I needed to accomplish (transferring title)…read morecannot be done at this location. On their website, it appears to be an option for this location. Come to find out once I arrived in person that they cannot help with titling in any way. Parking is available only as paid street parking, so I spent $2.50 to walk in the rain to not be able to do what I needed to. Heads up, the entrance is really on James Lovell St, even though the address says N 6th. The 6th street entrance was closed off. Frustrating experience.

This library is very helpful for people like me You see, I used to greatly enjoy actually reading. That is, until my vision got so bad that I really couldn't anymore. Enter Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library who provided me with loans of talking books by some of my favorite authors, many of which recoded by professional actors. They send new books to me as soon as I return old ones. They know the authors and types of books I like, and I rarely find myself without something to read. Although I do get most of my books by mail, they have been very nice and very helpful any time I have been in.

I work at MSOE and my office is pretty much right across the street from the Kern Center, and…read morealthough it is very convenient for me to go, I still don't go as much as I would like. But when I do go, I absolutely love it. There are 4 multi use courts for basketball, soccer, and volleyball, as well as an indoor track and ample amount of workout equipment. It can get a little crazy at certain points in the day, with various teams practicing in some spaces and the wight room can get crowded. But overall, I love the Kern Center. Now, if I could only motivate myself to go more often.
