I'm not understanding the raving reviews for this place. This is a tourist trap in my opinion. Mostly foreigners and not locals eating here. The waiters were super nice when we were trying to get a table but then we felt ignored once seated. The wine pours were measly compared to other places. The cheese plate was not quality cheese at all. I can get better cheese for cheaper at most bars. The same goes for the ibéricos. These disappointed me so much that I had a hard time enjoying the rest of my meal. The solomillo was the best thing we had. The potatoes were good. The curry rice with shrimp was ok. The waiter did give us a complimentary piece of cheesecake which was nice and very good. We asked the staff to recommend us the dishes, one was a mixed vegetable, the other I'm not 100%sure but both were delicious. This has been our favorite restaurant in all of a Spain so far! Came in off another users review and was not disappointed in the least. Place gets jam packed for dinner, recommend reservations (we got lucky and were able to snag bar seating last night). Service was impeccable. They had great recommendations for both food and wine and were very friendly as well, despite how busy it was. Everything was fantastic but the watercress salad (believe it or not) and the pork were absolute showstoppers. For dessert, they recommended the cheesecake and it was delicious! If you are coming to Salamanca you must try Vinodiario Vinoteca y Degustación. A variety of tasty options on the menu with the freshest ingredients from the region. Try the garbanzos with spices, dried plums, raisins and truffles as an appetizer. The tostas are a good choice for sharing as the portions are quite large. The chicken skewer with Mojo Picon red sauce was wonderful and the chicken very juicy. Quality is outstanding with very reasonable prices. The owners have their own range of wines which go very well with the meal. Open for lunch or dinner we enjoyed both very much. read more

We had an awesome lunch here. It's away from the more touristy area, it is more of a place for locals. The staff still seems to speak some English, if you need that. We had a lovely manchego and quince paste starter, we shared a big arugula salad, that also had cheese and quince in it, and for Main's we shared a simple pasta with arugula and Parmesan that was lovely. Amazing meal! One of my favorite places on our trip to Spain. As a non-Spanish speaker, I was worried about navigating the menu but no problem. We arrived at the restaurant opening without reservations. They offered us a seat at the bar and the fun began. We pursued the menu and had picked out several entree and appetizers when our server came to the rescue! He had excellent suggestions for wine with very thorough explanation of its origins and characteristics. This is a wine bar/restaurant. I would freely translate El Vinodiario as Our Daily Wine. As befits a wine bar the friendly manager described the wines to us in decided detail. We had tastes of each before choosing. I think he offered sampling first, but if not just ask. He asked what we liked back home to suggest local wines that were somewhat similar or not too dissimilar. Of course, you might want to orient yourself differently in this regard. Without a doubt, one of the best restaurants in all of Spain, not just Salamanca. This university city knows quality food and the high praises in all reviews are well earned. Went there tonight, not only because of the great reviews online but upon the recommendations of the hotel personnel where we stayed one block away. It was amazing! Started with a choice red wine from Ribera del Duero, and two tapas (one a cheese platter the other anchovies on tomato lathered toast), followed by yummy dried/cured beef with almonds and olive oil, and then a Rocket/Parmesan/Quince/Pine Nut salad and a pasta dish. The accompanying bread was tasty and they kept bringing more and more. For dessert, a small portion of cheesecake with strawberry preserves topped thing off for a delightful evening in this wonderful city. They would do well to have more smaller tables for two rather than only four because most of the folks coming into this small but quaint place were couples. They could always slide two small tables together to accommodate four or five people. Seems like such a waste, give how popular this place is. Cheesecake and lemon ice cream are just awesome - different taste and I don't think any other restaurant could replicate it! Worth the stop. Go early around 9 pm, after that its gets pretty crowded. ( thank the Dominican Monks for creating the laws that took us out of the Medieval Times) and I stepped into a gem of a tapas and wine that was made me want to stay even more. Pablo, the jefe, created a space for me even though I had no reservation, which you will need, especially on a Sunday. We ate here 6 times over a 5 day period for both lunch and dinner. We sampled many restaurants while visiting Salamanca, but kept returning here. We are from both Boston and San Francisco so we know food. The food is expertly prepared and presented. This is not the typical tapas fare. The T bone steak for instance was better quality and grilled than others we sampled at two separate restaurants billed as high end. The service is attentive and kind. Owner and staff speak English. We have been traveling in Northern Spain for about 2 weeks and this was by far the best food and service we have seen. Quite simply a Great place to eat. Everyone we exceptionally nice and helpful. Our waiter gave us English menus and clearly explained what everything was and made some excellent suggestions. Four of us shared strips of pork loin, shrimp curry, chicken, and chickpeas after a tasty tomato and cheese. We also shared two deserts (not to be missed) and had 4 glasses of upscale wine. Very good place to drink Spanish wine. They have a fantastic selection of open wines. The waitstaff is friendly and well-versed in English but not to the level that one thinks "it's a tourist trap". Lots of Spanyiards in here, too. The food is also great, a selection of local food and not your standard, typical and at times boring selection of tapas. It's quite challenging to get a table for dinner without a reservation. You can score a place at the counter, if you arrive early (8pm when the place opens) and you are no more than two. To reserve, it's best to pass by. If that's not possible, I recommend to call at around 8-8.30pm when they are not yet totally busy. I was in Salamanca on my own for two nights on my way to meet family. I ate dinner at Vinodiario both nights. The first night I arrived when they had just closed for 3 hours in preparation for dinner. I saw an employee leaving and asked him if he spoke English. All of this back story is important because although I try to assimilate -for some reason Spanish does not come to me. Literally 5 other fragmented languages- but no Spanish. So I really appreciate when people are patient and kind while I muddle through. Far fewer people speak any English in Salamanca as compared to Madrid and not everyone is patient :/ Ivan stopped to speak to me and he was very kind. The restaurant was fully booked but he said he could seat me at the bar if I arrived when they opened at 8. Paolo was my very kind waiter both nights. He had excellent suggestions and gave me a few nice treats from time to time. I particularly enjoyed the watercress salad and the duck dish. The cheesecake tasted like creme brûlée. So yum. Bottom line- the food was excellent. The atmosphere was great. Everyone was kind but a special thank you to Paolo and Ivan for making a lonely foreign traveler feel welcome. read more
