This tour is a great deal, priced under $40, to get a detailed overview of the main neighborhoods in and around Atlanta. These days, you will pay a lot more to drive around in an Uber or Lyft, and you won't get a tour guide giving you the history behind the landmarks you will see. The only stop made on this tour is at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. You will have some time to explore the Center, but not enough to see everything in this area. Ebenezer Baptist Church is next to the Center, and the trolley drives by MLK Jr.'s birth home. At the time I visited, the home was temporarily closed for renovations. For a more in-depth tour of the neighborhood, you will need to return on your own.

I called the 677-2700 number the day before to confirm we were good to go and was greeted with a voicemail that said for a faster response to text that same number and I did, no response, I should've known, I never received a return call to either the call or text and was told they had no record of either when we showed up for the flight (has that ever happened to you? Not me and I live and die by my phone for work). I have screen shots of all these calls and texts. I called another number (the day of) listed on the confirmation receipt that went to voicemail after three rings and again another text that said they were on another call and to text for a response, this was one hour before flight time, no response. I called and called again only to get a text, finally, that the plane was in maintenance and i would have to reschedule, 20 minutes before our scheduled flight. My drive was two hours plus in Atlanta traffic ONE WAY for this. The suite they give you at the airport has almost zero mention of this company and there was no one there, I was told by the person (that never gave their name) that they had purchased the company from the prior owner with all the details of the squabbles resulting from this change in ownership. I don't care about any of that. Ask yourself before booking with these folks, I presume a loved one will be 10k plus feet in the air with you, would you trust them with that responsibility? This booking is an automated process, they have my email, my cell number, about anyway you could hope to contact me. If you're going to tell me the plane is in maintenance, wouldn't you, as a business owner, look at what you have booked and contact those people in advance to inform them given this was known well before? So I ask you again, do you want to be in a plane, with a loved one owned and operated by people that conduct their business in this manner? If you do, I pray for you. Maybe my girl and I dodged a bullet but they ruined something for someone so special. I ask you to look at the prices, this is not a cheap endeavor and in this day and age to not be able to communicate effectively is inexcusable. This is not a traveling fair, this is serious business so take this for what its worth. Hit me up if you want/can, I'll share all the texts. The theatricality of the tour seriously cut away from any interest the stories may have had for me. In other words, the stories the guide was trying to tell was completely lost behind the character he was portraying. I ended up spending most of the rest of the night trying to find the stories that were only half told or were barely referenced, including: the lynching of Charlie Hale, the Ponce De Leon/Royal Palm Southern railroad crash, the lightning strike deaths at Lawrenceville Female Seminary, etc. Again, any interesting historical bits were lost to the theatricality of the role played by the tour guide, to the point that the stories felt unfinished, a side note to the character being portrayed by the guide. Now, I can understand the need to make your tour stand out from all the others. While everyone else is giving the history and the ghost stories, the Lawrenceville Ghost Tour focuses on giving a show. The stories are there. The history is there. It's just all lost in the over the top showmanship, where the tour guide had built himself in a backstory involving a real train crash that happened in 1926. Had I known about that going in, would I have gone? Probably not, truth be told. Will I come back next year, like I have done for Roswell and will do for Saint Augustine and New Orleans? Probably not, as well. In short, if you're expecting a historical ghost tour, give this one a pass. I would have loved for this to be good, but to me, it was a little too much time spent on character development and too little spent on history.

We took the tour last wknd, and enjoyed learning about the BeltLine project while driving through the Atlanta neighborhoods like Glenwood, Grant Park, Boulevard Crossing, Capital View, Peachtree Hills, etc. and some historic sites, too. Highlight of the tour was seeing the Bellwood Quarry which will be the centerpiece for the future Westside Reservoir Park - the largest park in Atlanta. I was amazed - not to the level like when I first saw the Grand Canyon - but almost, just b/c I never knew such a gem existed INSIDE Atlanta. In case you're wondering about the location, it's behind Marietta Blvd and right now it's fenced off to the public. They say the only way you can see it is taking this tour. Check out the photos - beautiful, right?! The BetlLine project is huge, and has the potential to transform Atlanta. They say it will ultimately connect 45 neighborhoods. I also learned that Atlanta is the one of the most underparked cities - we're at 3.8% whereas most cities are 10-15%. Check out the website to get more info on the project. The tour is a great way to spend your Friday or Saturday morning, and then grab some brunch afterwards :) They book fast and advanced reservations are required. Our tour guide was great and highly knowledgeable but she does talk non-stop. The shuttle that we boarded was comfortable and air-conditioned (for those worried about suffering through Atlanta summer temperatures or having to weather a rough ride). Our guide, Shanté (or Shauntay maybe?), was a doll, knew a lot about the project and the city as a whole. She seemed to be seasoned, as she spoke clearly and timed everything she said just right, as she stood with her back to the front, to face our group. I learned a lot and saw neighborhoods that I had never seen or heard of. The architecture of Atlanta is something to admire, as it is unique. I enjoyed seeing the Bellwood Quarry Reservoir (look at our photos, it is gorgeous) and the Old Fourth Ward Park. Now I am hoping that I can convince my landscape architect-in-training sister to join me for this tour. I was told to wait a couple months before going again, to get some new information. Keep in mind that the tours book to capacity at least a month in advance, to plan wisely (though our guide said that if you are really interested, show up and see if some people who have reserved dropped out the last minute--she said this happens quite frequently). If you want, take along some snacks. Just make sure to empty your bladder and any other organs that may need to be voided before arriving to the start point of the tour. The closest bathroom before taking off from the Inman Park MARTA station is at Dough Bakery and the staff restrict bathroom use to patrons. Don't judge me for getting a grapefruit scone so that I could relieve myself. You will make a stop a little bit before the halfway point of the tour at a Kroger (is this murder Kroger? I'm unsure), where you can pick up nourishment and use the facilities. But it can be an uncomfortable first hour or so, if you are thinking you can just hold it. Okay, let's move past the bathroom thing... You should learn more about the A, its history, its neighborhoods, and the progress of the BeltLine. This tour will help you do all those things in a span of just 180 minutes, give or take.
