I thought getting a few bids to find a reasonable price that fits our budget was the normal process. Basically, this was a politely worded dig at my thought process, which I found extremely unprofessional. We chose to work with Edgar because his bid price was about 25% lower than his competitors, and he showed a careful attention to detail when walking around both properties to assess their needs. He understood that we were getting ready to sell both properties and made thoughtful recommendations about the most impactful but cost-effective actions, like cleaning the roofs and only pressure washing areas where the paint was still in good condition. At no time did he try to "upsell" us on unnecessary repairs. His communication was exemplary, providing updates in advance regarding his weather-dependent work schedule so that we could, in turn, let the tenants know when he would be onsite.
