Our daughter was trained at four months, and within a week was sleeping 6pm-7am. She's now almost three, and to this day she has been a consistent sleep machine. Within two weeks of 'baby steps' training our son was sleeping through the night from 6pm - 7am (yes at 7 weeks)! We called Vivian after being referred by our beloved Pediatrician, in quite a desperate state. Our 18 month old was still nursing and would only nap ON me. She had slept great for about 8 months, then hit the dreaded 18 month regression HARD. Not only did we have to work on the night wake-ups, but also independent naps in her crib and the end of nursing. It was a LOT, not just for her but also for us as her parents (especially me, the mom!) Vivian's approach is very "rip the bandaid off," as she would self-describe, which my clever and very intelligent 18 month old needed and so did I. Vivian is really there to train the parents; I realized that we were giving in to her every whim much to her detriment. Vivian's method can seem harsh at times; she will tell you like it is! It will take a bit of a thick skin, however, it WORKS. The first night or two were absolute hell in a handbasket, as to be expected. Although it's challenging that Vivian doesn't text and is only really available between 8am-6ishpm, she was in constant contact with me for the first 72 hours +. It was great, she would call first thing in the morning and held my hand through those very difficult first few days, calling and talking to me constantly. I needed it, a lot of these changes along with the obvious dislike from my daughter of the new changes were really hard on Mom, but Vivian was there to tell me continuously to not give up! Hiring her, was one of the best investments we've made and she helped our 5mo old baby sleep through the night and get on a consistent schedule in less than a week. Long version: When I first had my baby, I had subscribed, like many, to Taking Cara Babies online. Why hire a sleep trainer when I had resources like this at my fingertips? By 5 months, we thought things were relatively good from a sleep perspective - baby was napping ~4-5 times per day and only waking 1-2 times per night. I figured it couldn't get much better until one of my good friends hired Vivian and within 2 nights had a baby who was on 3 consistent naps per day and sleeping 12+ hours a night. I called Vivian immediately. On the initial call, she asked me a lot of questions about babies age, weight, current sleep habits, etc and at the end said she could get her on longer, fewer naps in the day and sleeping through the night in 3-5 nights. And she was right. On night one, we pulled all the sleep "crutches"...no more merlin, no pacifier, no dream feed. By night 2, baby was falling asleep in less than half the time it used to take with the pacifier and sleeping in longer stretches. By night 3, baby was going down for naps in under 3 minutes with zero crying and on a daytime sleep schedule that was MUCH more predictable, giving both my husband and I the ability to plan our days better and leave the "waiting for baby to wake up limbo". He was unhappy and fussy and we could tell he was tired all of the time. Online there are hundreds of "mommy bloggers" all telling you different things to do, and mixed information. We were inconsistently trying all of them and our poor son was just confused. Then came Vivian - because of COVID we did everything over the phone, but it was just as effective as if she had been there in person. We hired Vivian for help with our 3-month old daughter, after reading her amazing reviews. She was referred to us by a friend, who did not work with Vivian but knew others who had a fantastic experience working with her. I am sharing our experience, because we unfortunately did not have a good experience working with Vivian herself. To start off, I will say that Vivian's "cry it out" method worked for our baby. Our daughter was sleeping in a Dock-A-Tot in our adult bed, using a swaddle and pacifier, and being rocked to sleep every night. At 14 weeks old, she was sleeping anywhere from 4-6 hours in her first stretch at night. On rare occasion, she would sleep 7 or more hours. Not bad, I know! Our goal with hiring Vivian was not necessarily to get a 12-hour stretch of sleep, but it was to remove all the sleep props and get the baby into her own crib/room, so my husband and I could have our bedroom back. Vivian's method was fairly simple. She just told us to put the baby in the crib without any sleep props, and let her cry for 25+ min at a time. It was very, very hard on all of us that first day. She cried for a cumulative total of almost 5 hours that day. Her face was completely swollen, she had dark rings under her eyes, and she was not herself personality-wise for several days. However, I say Vivian's method worked because our baby now sleeps in her own crib without crying herself to sleep. She may fuss for 5-10 minutes, but she goes straight to sleep. I still choose to do one night-time feeding, but otherwise I have seen a huge improvement in our baby's ability to fall asleep on her own. The reason why this is a 2-star review is because our relationship with Vivian ended less than 24 hours after she came to our home. Vivian was condescending, rude, and completely unsympathetic to our life as new parents. She interrupted us constantly, rolled her eyes at many of the things we said, and made us feel very uncomfortable throughout the entire process. I am honestly very confused by other reviews saying Vivian is sweet, compassionate, patient, and loves babies. A completely different woman showed up in our home-- Vivian was very irritated when we asked any questions. She raised her voice several times at us, and even apologized at the end of our session for being "too passionate." It was not passion that we felt from her. We met with Vivian on a Saturday morning. By Sunday morning, I called Vivian to give an update on our baby's sleep and ask a question. My question was met with screaming from Vivian about how I had not listened to her instruction from Saturday. That was my last straw. I could not stand her yelling anymore, and asked for a refund. Vivian refunded half our fee, and my husband and I sighed a huge sigh of relief. Other reviews have noted that Vivian is very direct in her communication style. I consider myself a very direct communicator, but Vivian is just plain mean at times. She will question and criticize your every decision as a parent before telling you the right and only way to do it. Working with her was stressful to say the least. I should also add that she asked us the same questions over and over again (baby's age, weight, etc), and kept forgetting our names. She called me the wrong name 3 times on one phone call. Not sure if this is due to age, or if she simply has too many clients and can't keep them straight. We have had the fortune of meeting so many kind, patient, and encouraging people since our daughter was born. Unfortunately, Vivian is not one of them. If you are desperate for results with your baby, I would consider the fact that her "amazing results" may come with a healthy dose of verbal abuse. Where do I even begin? If you are even thinking about calling or emailing her, just do it. It's worth every single penny. I am not someone who used a doula or a night nurse, so I never thought I'd pay the expense of a sleep consultant...but honestly I can say it's the best money I ever spent. Vivian gave me and my husband our sanity back, she helped us get our sleep back, and she turned our baby from an overtired, upset and not hungry 4.5 month old to a happy, well-rested and hungry little baby. On our call she did not at all push me into using her. She listened to me and asked questions and even gave me a few tips. She truly cares about all the Moms she works with. I called her later that night when our son was crying once again, and she said she could come over at 8am the next day. I will never forget that day. Our baby ended up taking two naps that added up to 4.5 hours (not kidding!) and slept 12 hours through that night. I was in complete and utter disbelief. Vivian is a listener, she is thoughtful, she wants to know everything about your journey as parents and all the little details that only you know about your baby's sleep patterns. You have to listen to her and understand that her method is structured and you have to follow it, but it WILL work. And your baby will be SO MUCH HAPPIER. Our baby is hungrier, more alert, more joyful and so grateful that we got him on a good schedule thanks to Vivian. Since working with Vivian, our son has consistently slept through the night (6pm - 6am!). He also takes at least one 2-2.5 hour nap a day, and another solid 1.5 hour nap (many days he gets two 2-hour naps!). When he started to try to wake at 4am for feeds again, she coached me on how to break that bad habit, and within two days we broke it. She's simply incredible. We had a wonderful experience working with Vivian. Our son was almost 4 months old and had always struggled with sleeping during the day (averaging about 3 hours total during the day) and fluctuated with night sleep. At the time we called Vivian, he had gone a week straight with waking up every 45 minutes or so throughout the night and still sleeping very little during the day. After one (very difficult) night of applying Vivian's cry-it-out rules, our son slept from 6pm to 6am the next night and has been doing so ever since. Vivian also helped us with a nap schedule and, while he still struggles with napping during the day, he goes down much easier for his naps and has gotten used to his new schedule and continues to get better each day. Our son is happy and calm during the day and only now are we realizing how stressed and anxious his sounds (even his "happy" sounds) truly were before we worked with Vivian. He just needed more sleep! Vivian continues to check in with me regularly to answer my questions and help with minor adjustments to timing between naps if needed, etc. She has been wonderful and accessible to me and we have been very grateful for her guidance. We probably could have read books to help us with this but it was comforting and helpful to have a live person walk us through the steps and help us establish a schedule that felt right for our son. read more

Vivian is truly a gift from the baby heavens! We have a 3-month old babygirl (our first) and I knew she would be 4 months by the time I returned to work from maternity leave, so I needed to have consistency and a personalized schedule in place for her nanny and ourselves. A good friend referred me to Vivian. She worked with her with her son, so I had witnessed the magic firsthand. Our baby girl has always been super chill and slept well, but we wanted to wean her off the sleep props (doc a tot, pacifier, swaddle, and rocking her to sleep). We always wanted her to have more predictable nap times with longer stretches at night. I emailed Vivian just to get a feel for her, even before i was ready to meet with her. She wasn't pushy, and was super patient with me. Once I was finally ready to schedule a meeting, she was super responsive and came over to our home in Oakland that same Friday morning after our baby's first nap. Vivian assessed our home (we live in a 1-bedroom loft, and had given the baby our room and started sleeping in the living room!) and gave us her input on how to set up a good sleeping situation for everyone's success. The second nap that day, our baby girl slept for 2 hours without a swaddle or pacifier--cold turkey! That night, she slept for 11 hours! By the 4th night, babygirl was consistently sleeping 11-12 hours through the night. We couldn't believe how consistent our baby girl has been every day and night with the help of Vivian. She is a happy baby and wakes up smiling and laughing. Oh, and we got our bedroom back too! The best part about working with Vivian is her commitment and attention to our baby and our little family. She called every day, sometimes multiple times a day, to check in and offer advice based on how our baby did the night before. Her guidance is one of a kind and her sweet personality made it really easy to trust her. I cannot speak any higher of Vivian, we are so happy to have met her, to have become her friend, and owe her so much for guiding us with our happy, thriving baby! read more

This is a hard review to write. And I will try to be fair and even. Especially since I'm sure there are new parents reading this trying to figure out if she's worth the money. The Good: She came to our house. Helped us put our son down for a nap. Gave us immediate, firm, feedback on how to handle him to get him to sleep (for naps and overnight). And that first night, for the first time in his life, he slept 12 hours straight. And. To be fair to Vivian. He has slept through the night basically every night. Her system is simple. She is very firm and not flexible in enforcing it (more on that later). A lot of it flies in the face of modern medicine (more on that later too). But hey. It works. The Bad: As I mentioned, she came to our house and walked us through an orientation of sorts. But I must say, she was incredibly disorganized. She doles out guidance in a 'stream of consciousness' fashion. At the time I thought NBD b/c she prob has some kind of summary sheet or resources. Wrong. And if your notes from that initial meeting are insufficient, you're going to regret it. She will never come back and she really dislikes answering follow-up questions. Technically, your contract includes 2 months for questions/contact but she seems to resent being held to that. When my wife would ask follow-up questions she was met with an increasing string of verbal assaults. Here is an actual, verbatim, message from her to my wife: ---------------- My Wife: Vivian, I hope you're well. I was hoping to ask you some questions about how {our sons} sleep schedule should change at 6-months: Vivian: I'll call at abt 2.30 hope you answer the phone! I can tell you about my frustrations !! ----------------- Y'all. That is a quote. I didn't change anything. This woman is cray zay. So. In summary. She helped. But the cost of doing business was very, very high. My advice: Look elsewhere. read more

Vivian was wonderful to work with. Very responsive, checked in frequently, and got started right away. My little boy was 3.5mos-old. His naps were all contact naps, and he only did one 3-4 hour stretch in his crib before needing to be held for the rest of the night. We bounced, walked him to sleep. I was getting more and more anxious that baby wasn't getting quality sleep, and my husband and I were pretty drained too. Vivian and I had a brief phone conversation, during which she assured me that my baby would sleep through the night in two/three days. She came to my home on Sunday morning (8:30 am). I finished feeding baby, we put him in his sleep sack, brought down the curtains, and put him in his crib. He had never taken a nap in his crib prior to this. We left the room, which was very very hard and painful for me, as I've never let him cry. Vivian sat with me, assured me that he was OK, and would be asleep soon. We talked about her plan as we waited, and within 10-minutes baby was asleep. There was crying, but it didn't last long, and he slept for 1.5hrs that morning. We did the same for his next two naps, and it worked! He cried less each time. Then evening rolled around, my husband and I were anxious and worried, but we stuck to her guidelines. We got him in his sleep sack, and in his crib, and within 5-minutes (with a little crying/whining), he was asleep. He woke up briefly at 11:30 am and 3:00 am, and put himself back to sleep very quickly both times. That morning he woke up happy, and so so vocal! He had so much to say :) We're now going on almost a month of sleeping through the night. He is usually asleep within a couple of minutes of being put in his crib. This was life-changing for our family, and the crying that I was so anxious about was quite minimal. I'm a much better mamma as a result of the sleep we're both getting, and he's my little ball of joy. I'm so grateful for Vivian's help - as this completely changed the energy in our home, and I worry so much less about my little guy getting the rest he needs. read more

Vivian is amazing. My first born son was up every half an hour starting at 4 months. No matter what I tried (I read all the tricks and sleep training methods, asked mama friends) nothing worked. My family and I cannot recommend Vivian enough! She completely changed our lives as first time parents, learning how to support our daughter's sleep schedule. We found Vivian when our daughter was 4 months old, and was all of a sudden awake multiple time per night. My husband and I were feeling completely sleep deprived. We found Vivian and she had her sleeping through the night and on a nap time that fit HER needs. She not only slept through the night, but she slept 12 hours plus great naps during the day. We finally had a rested baby that thrived in all aspects since she was rested, healthy and happy! There are SO many online sleep resources now, that treat babies and their parents like robots with sleep advice. We tried them all before we found Vivian, and none of them worked for us. What we loved about Vivian is that she came to our house to access our whole situation: the baby, our parenting and the environment to come up with a custom plan that worked for our whole family. She was also available via phone and email to answer follow up questions in a very quick a timely manner. Our daughter is now a year and a half old and we still consult with her. She has taught us how to adjust her sleep schedule as she grows, when we're on vacation, etc. Vivian is the real deal and will work so hard to make it right for your little one. We worked with Vivian when Hawk was 4 months old. He went from waking up 1-2 times per night to sleeping from 7pm-7am within a week. With more sleep he immediately became a happier and easier baby. And I imagine he's been developing better since. He's now 15 months and still sleeping perfectly. No regression. We occasionally reach out to Vivian when we're going through a change, ie one to two naps, and she's extremely responsive and helpful. If you're reading this, just hire Vivian. If you're reading this far, the 108th review of Vivian, do yourself and favour and just call her. If you follow her advice, like we did, your baby will sleep- ours slept 9 hours on the first night of program (4, then feed, then 5 more), and 12 hours straight from the 2nd night till present (a month later). Prior to Vivian, our baby averaged 1.5-2 hours max, day and night.... It was brutal. We eventually found Vivian after my wife and I struggled with the inundation of information out there; what to do, when to do it, how and why to it.....and on and on and on. I saw her in a YouTube video and was drawn to the simplicity of her straightforward approach, "There's so much garrrrrbage out there! Garbage in, garbage out"-VS Vivian is a wonderful and tough, no-nonsense woman, who has become a surrogate grandmother for us. We had lost my mother-in-law mid pregnancy, and were really missing the generational wisdom typically passed from mother to daughter. We were flying blind with our first child, trying out best, making plenty of mistakes, and my wife was operating on little to no sleep. Vivian gave us sound and effective advice, confidence, a baby who sleeps 12 hours straight thru the night (at 3 months old), and TIME for us to now reconnect with eachother, and adjust and improve for this next and new phase of our lives. So new mom here. I worked with Vivian and was very happy I did so. There's lots of options out there, but I chose her because she comes in person, sees your set up, and takes you step by step in a custom process. She stays in contact until you're baby is sleeping through the night and I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs any level of help. My daughter wasn't screaming for hours or waking every 30 minutes, but I wasn't getting 8-9 uninterrupted hours of sleep at night and she was confident I could. Within 2 days my daughter was sleeping through the night and I was feeling much better. My girl is 6 1/2 months old and doing great, sleeping 3 hours in the day and 12 at night! Vivian changed our lives!!!! We were desperately sleep deprived and our baby was miserable- sleeping in 20-30 minute increments and impossible to put down. Literally, we'd spend 3 hours to get him to sleep for 15 minutes. The first night after Vivian came was tough, and the second was magical. Our son went from sleeping 8 hours every day (including naps and never more than 2 hrs at a time) to 16 almost immediately. Vivian was always there when I needed her, often multiple times a day, and I talked to her every single day for almost a month until our babe had totally "graduated" from sleep school. We are so much happier now- all of us- and it's because of Vivian! Its the best thing we've done for ourselves and the best thing we've ever done for our baby. I feel completely duped by paying way too much for so little in return. I blame my severe sleep-deprivation for falling for such a lame service. She does not give any alternatives to her cookie-cutter plan. And the phone support is nothing at all beyond her telling parents to stick to the plan. I truly cannot recommend Vivian enough! I've been singing her praises ever since we sleep trained our four month old son Cruz. Up until we hired Vivian, I was waking up 7 to 8 times a night with our son every night since he was born (not exaggerating!). We were also dealing with the 25 minute cat naps throughout the day with no schedule and bedtimes were as late as 9pm. Vivian came highly recommended through multiple friends so he finally bit the bullet and hired her and my only regret is not hiring her sooner! By day five, Cruz was sleep through the night 12-13 hours. My husband and I couldn't believe it. His naps have extended to 1-2 hour naps! Our whole life has changed. Every time we put him down he doesn't even make a peep, he doesn't cry and falls asleep and he wakes up happy and babbling. We've been calling her our fairy godmother. If you're deciding whether or not to hire her, please take this as your sign to pick up the phone and call her right now! I remember reading these Yelp reviews and thinking to myself, "That's great that it worked for THEM but it probably won't work for me". "My "spirited" baby would be too challenging and it would probably take months too see any changes". I would be up with my 3 month old baby girl every 1 1/2 hours during the night and I was E.X.H.A.U.S.T.E.D I could not put her down during the day for even a moment or else she would start crying. I didn't have time to shower, didn't have to time to eat, and I was holding her ALL THE TIME. I was an angry exhausted grump every day and something just HAD to change. ::Enter Vivian:: On the 2nd day in working with Vivian my daughter slept 11 straight hours. True story. I remember waking my husband up at 4 am that night and was like, "omg I think she might sleep through the night"! I seriously couldn't believe it. I thought I was dreaming. Before Vivian came into our lives, I was seriously on the verge of a nervous breakdown. I was completely drained. I would get so jealous when I would talk to other moms whose babies were sleeping through the night and taking naps during the day. I thought I was doing everything wrong and I didn't feel in control. It hasn't even been 2 full weeks yet and the changes that we have seen are incredible. Below are the changes that we've had in these 2 short weeks! : 1) No.More.BINKIE. I seriously didn't think that was possible. I mean, she LOVED her little Giraffe Wubbanub binkie {a.k.a Mr. Binks} I would spend almost ALL night holding that darn binkie in her mouth. The moment she fell asleep the binkie would then fall out of her mouth she would wake up. This was a vicious cycle that happened ALL.NIGHT.LONG Um, can you say exhausting? It puts a huge smile on my face when I'm out doing errands and she can just sit in her car seat and play with her toys and not have that bink in her mouth! 2) I would have to pump my brakes at every single freaking stop light because she always needed to be "in motion"--otherwise she would start crying at the top of her lungs. Even when waiting in line at a store I would have to push that stroller baaaack and forth, baaaaack and forth. Not any more! Now, she just sits in her car seat and plays with her toys contently. #miracle 3) I am able to actually sleep in my own bed with my husband! From the day we brought Skye home, I slept with her in our guest bedroom--{a.k.a "the dungeon room" my husband and I would jokingly call it} She now sleeps in her crib with no problem! 4) She takes NAPS during the day now. She sleeps anywhere from 1-2 1/2 hours at a time in her CRIB. Before, she never took any day time naps. So you can see where I was starting to lose my mind with a baby who never slept during the day and night. 5) Because she is taking naps during the day I have TIME to clean my house and workout! My house no longer looks like a disaster zone. Clean house= happy mama 6) Skye is overall a more calm and happy baby. Before working with Vivian, Skye always seemed wired---like she had 10 cups of Starbucks coffee. It had a lot to do with the fact that she wasn't sleeping. I love that when my husband and I take her with us to lunch I don't have to push the stroller back and forth and entertain her the whole time. She can now entertain herself and just quietly observe her surroundings. Oh and another thing that Vivian told me the day she came to my house was, "she will wake up cooing and smiling from her naps". I did not believe her. Like, what baby actually does that? She isn't a robot for crying out loud! I'm happy to say she wakes up cooing and smiling and it brings tears of joy to my face every time. Trust in Vivian.
