He has great communication skills, always keeping up with us via email or text. He had two other men he worked with and they were fast and polite. As a woman, I've felt uncomfortable being alone with or I've been condescended to by other contractors. I never felt this way with Elias and his team. That's worth a lot to me. We hired Quality Construction to install drywall and insulation in our basement. It was done fast and they did a good job. He was accommodating when we had to have them break for an electrician to come in. It was done in about three days. One of the guys accidentally broke a lamp and Elias offered to reimburse us for it. He's a stand-up guy and he does a great job.

Missed an emergency dental extraction because of them. This is an update because they are not telling the complete story which I think is typical for this company. I informed them in the very first message that this was urgent because the shutter banging on the wall disrupted my concentration for my job, and kept me up at night. Scheduled for Saturday, and 10 minutes before the end of the 4-6 pm period, they said it would take 50 minutes to get here. Since I had made a personal appt for 6:30 pm, I had to decline. I told them Sunday was fine, and got no response. I told them I worked at home so they could come any time Monday. No response. On Monday I wanted to go to an emergency dental appt to have a tooth extracted but getting the shutter done was more urgent. About 3 pm I asked if they were coming and they said no, they had already been to Herndon and left. It was too late for the Dentist. I was not happy and in pain. I posted my very first 1 star review. Then they had the audacity to call me on the phone I use for business which could get me fired, so I said "What do you want"? Well Sam wanted to complain about my 1 star post and frankly it made me angry. I had to speak loudly because Sam was trying to tell me how inappropriate I had been and I told him to never call back. I hung up and put a block on his calls. The best prediction for future events is the past events. So, if a company does not arrive at their promised time and does not respond to your messages, then that means it is a good chance it will occur in the future. Again, avoid, avoid, avoid!!! I would not hire this company to dig the poop out of my toilet. I'm certain they would mess it up and then complain that I did something wrong.

I contacted VA Building & Remodeling recently regarding a renovation and addition to my parents house to make it accessible for my little sister, who became paralyzed several months ago. Shane and Karen came over to take a look at the house in April, and we had a good conversation although there was a pronounced lack of focus. We discussed building an approximately 100 sq ft addition to the house that could be used specially for my sister and her son since she is currently sleeping in the dining room, and remodeling the bathroom next to it to accommodate a wheelchair. There was some damage to the roof as well that had to be repaired. For these issues, they quoted an absurd price of $150,000. Since we desperately need the work done, we discussed the project further. Shane balked when we discussed a payment arrangement since the estimate came in 50% over the budget we had discussed, and he had been aware of. When we came to an impasse for funding the addition, we briefly discussed proceeding with just the roof, bathroom and hallway remodel. When I mentioned our original budget, Shane told me, verbatim, that the $100,000 project "wasn't worth it" for him because he was "having a banner year". The project, as a reminder, was to make my parents house-- both on social security-- more accessible for my paraplegic little sister and her four year old son. On principles of ethics and basic humanity, I would avoid this company at all costs. I understand they're not running a charity, but to be so dismissive, inflexible and inhumane as Shane treated this project and my family is inexcusable. If you're as outraged as I was about this situation, show them the only place it seems to matter-- their company checking account, and take your business elsewhere.

I will start my review by saying that we feel like we got a great final product in our master suite…read morehome addition, and we are so pleased and thankful for this. All the workers we dealt with were pleasant and relatively competent. The reason I would not recommend Coastal Contracting is primarily due to the lack of follow through with their one year warranty on materials. Our addition has been completed for about 9 months at this point, and we have had 3 distinct issues come up. Twice the HVAC has failed, and once the shower plumbing was malfunctioning. The first time the HVAC failed was right before the ice storm of early 2026, and we called the installing company to arrange service. They came out promptly and fixed the HVAC (faulty part, but we now had heat!) but we were told that we had to pay out of pocket for repairs since we did not first contact Coastal in writing. Ok. It then failed a second time right before the heat wave of July 4th weekend, so we contacted Coastal. We did get a personal email back after business hours saying that they would contact us after the weekend, which after 2 business days we have not heard from them. Again we did some repairs on our own. The plumbing issue happened between the two HVAC issues, so I was wise to submit my request for service in writing and followed up with a phone call, during which I was assured I would hear back...which I never did. It is just disappointing. Also disappointing were the many mis-ordered parts and vanity that delayed our project, the cut corners that we had to be vigilant about inspecting, and the surprise few thousand dollar increase in fee for a plumbing issue they did not see when they were quoting us. They admitted they didn't look under the house as they should have (I thought we were paying for their expertise?), but assured us that we could be happy that we were still getting a good deal. Maybe these hiccups and lack of communication after they get their check are all normal on a project of this size-I don't have any other point of comparison.

Coastal Contracting was quick to come out, provide an estimate, and get the project scheduled. They replaced a water-damaged window in my 100-year-old house, along with removing the damaged plaster and replacing it with drywall. I was particularly impressed with the care they took to preserve the original trim around the window so it would still match the adjacent window that didn't need to be replaced. That kind of attention to detail really matters in an older home. The project was completed on time and on budget. Dallas kept me informed about the progress, and everyone who worked on the project was conscientious about protecting my walls and carpets. From the communication to the quality of the work, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I would absolutely use Coastal Contracting again!

If you've done a remodel project before, you might be in better shape because you are likely to know things that might come up and you probably then would ensure that they are put in the contract. The bottom line is make them put in the contract all of the promises that they make. We should have gotten estimates from other companies. I think that we would have gotten better prices elsewhere based on what we're finding out now *Said they'd fix the walls. We said we wanted the walls to be fixed and owner said "oh yeah, for sure, you want it turnkey", implying that they would take care of it, but were then told no and also no painting *Cabinet installer didn't read chart to know that spice cabinet was to be installed to the right of the sink so cut bottom and back of sink cabinet holes then realized his mistake. He had to cut more holes in the cabinet that shouldn't be there *Cabinet installer realized after installing cabinets that they would not line up with stove, so had to redo but this was AFTER cutting hole in back of cabinet for microwave electrical outlet. Hole is off center so it can't be covered up with outlet plate. 1 1/2" gap to the between the stove and the toe kick. Emails to them have resulted in no response *Cabinet and drawer handles were installed by plumbers. MANY of them ended up drilled in the wrong places - crooked and not level. *Dishwasher had to be moved to the right from where it originally was due to the width of the new cabinet. I discovered that the unit's left footing rail was sitting ON the water supply line to the unit, so I had to drill a new hole and rerun the line. *New face to new kneewall to the right of dishwasher is not level, so there's a gap between the right dishwasher rubber flange and the wood face and it's obvious when the refrigerator is in place next to it.

Suggested I come in again and that they also wouldn't provide any priced details unless the entire bathroom was planned. An extreme waste of time and clearly disorganized business.
