This is a definite must see when in Mexico. It's about 2 hours from Mexico City, but well worth it.
Legend says that the warrior Popocatepetl went to war but before doing so asked for the princesses hand in marriage upon his return from war. Word got back to the princess that her beloved had been killed during battle and she weep and died of a broken heart. When the warrior returned he was informed of his beloveds death and carried her to the mountain tops to forever stay in a sleep type slumber, he then kneeled at her feet and as the winter came his head was covered with snow and died kneeling at her feet.
You can see the images of the mountain of "La Mujer Dormida" next to the Volcano "Popocatepetl".
It is a beautiful love story and legend.
