Our server works at another location and told my friend about this place I feel horrible I can't remember her name right now but she's a ginger super sweet and took care of us and answered all of our crazy questions. Cool looking place, but my lunch was very disappointing. Had the Seared Tuna Salad, which looks good on the plate but had zero taste. The tuna - as another Yelp reviewer mentioned- was bland, somehow lacking any tuna flavor. The salad was equally bland - the amount of dressing provided was stingy and it wasn't bad but was also very uninspired. I ate four bites of the salad to ensure it wasn't just me missing the tasty parts but that didn't help. I left all the tuna except the first piece I tried and half of the second. When the server finally came by and I had a 90 percent untouched plate he didn't bother to ask if everything was okay - just said "can I take this away"? I think these are the same owners who have The Tavern and Tycoon in Flower Mound and I've never had anything but great food and service experiences at both so hopefully this was just a rare bad experience. Happy hour is from 2-6 mon-fri and has half off wine, cocktails, martinis and $10 on a few different appetizers. Great pricing for the quality of drinks you're getting and they have something for everyone. Food was also on point and great for sharing. Tried the popcorn chicken and spicy tuna crispy rice - both things go great with the beverages. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Only gripe is they add a rather large "Beverage Surcharge" of ~13.5% (came out to $19.5 for a $144.5 pre-tax bill that included a few food items) which was a bit shocking. Only explanation we got was that "everyone does it". Aside from that, this place is a solid spot to go. read more

Came here for lunch. I love the speakeasy vibe and all the available photo ops upon entering. I was sat right away and the service was very attentive from the start. I ordered the Crispy Deviled Eggs and those were delicious, they are topped with bacon jam which adds to the delicious taste. I got two drinks from the bar the first was a Bootlegger's Blossom and the second was a Lemon Drop Martini and they were both delicious. For my meal I had the Volstead Cheeseburger, which they said it was the best burger in Southlake, and that was not a lie. Volstead has been open a while in Southlake. They are the same outfit that owns Jane, also in Southlake, The Tavern, and Tycoon. Both the Tavern and Tycoon are in Flower Mound, and I have not visited, but I have made stops at both Jane and now Volstead. And I have to say, I wanted to be impressed, and I just wasn't. When I went to Jane, the cocktails were not up to snuff. My visit to Volstead, the cocktail was fantastic but the ambiance and food disappointed. I came into Volstead to check out the happy hour. They have a discount on wine, and half off their signature cocktails and martinis. They make craft cocktails, which were impressive, but only have one bartender. It takes time, but they could use another. I ordered a Volstead Vesper. It is a bold martini. Josh made it well. It was well balanced. Boozy yet balanced. And I love a lemon curl. A garnish can really elevate a cocktail. Five stars for the drink. I will come back and order another one. I also ordered their spicy tuna crispy rice. It was rather a disappointment. The serving size was generous, the crunch on the rice was there, and then it fell short. The texture of the rice was on the mushier side. The tuna was NOT spicy. It had been dressed in something, but it brought absolutely NO flavor or anything to the tuna. There was a wasabi cream and a sauce (maybe eel sauce) that dressed the plate, but the tuna was bland. A little soy, citrus, yuzu, sriracha or SOMETHING to elevate and brighten the tuna would have been EVERYTHING. So it just ended up being bland tuna, on undressed avocado, on fried mushy rice with some tasty sauces. It absolutely was not spicy. And with a little something something it could have been rather tasty. Even with mushy rice. When I walked in and sat down, there was no music playing so you were just hearing conversations bouncing off the walls. After about a half hour someone decided they needed some tunes, but then it was too loud and it was hard to hear the bar tenders. I loved the decor, and again, my cocktail was really rather good. The overall feel just felt kind of sloppy. It could have been awesome, and fell short. They claim to have Southlakes best burger, and maybe that is a better choice than the tuna. I may give it a shot. It got rather popular as I was leaving, the crowd a bit more mature. And maybe that is their bag. They have great reviews and high stars, I just didn't feel it. read more

The name of this place has intrigued me for some time. You see I am a bit of a history buff and the Volstead Act outlawed alcohol sales in 1919. Clubs still existed though, in the form of speakeasy's. Volstead is fashioned after a speakeasy from the era, and you feel it walking in. The place has an old time feel to it. My service was great. Parking is easy and they did a really excellent and cool job changing the decor from fish shack style to a modern vibe. I absolutely love the blowing bubble gum wall paper. What I really love about this place is there is an option for everyone and the serving sizes are huge! My husband and I shared the fish and chips because we knew we were getting appetizers and a dessert. The serving size of the split order could almost be a full serving at other restaurants. The quality is great as well and everything we had was very good. Our server, the bartenders and the manager were very friendly and checked in JUST the right amount. The girl who took care of us and really made our evening, Kayla (AGM) was amazing. she not only took care of us, but seemed to take care of all the customers well. I am big on customer service and the fact that this girl has only been there less than six months, but literally had such a command of everything it was really fun to watch her at work. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant as I'd heard it's the sister restaurant of Tycoon in Flower Mound which we love. But our experience here was average. Started out with some cocktails which were great so that was positive. The restaurant overall is super small so even though we were only a party of 2 we were squished between parties on both sides of us and barely had room to keep my coat next to me. For apps we had oysters which were nice and fresh. We also had the fried rock shrimp which was tasty but they went overboard on the cilantro. For dinner I had the blackened redfish and the flavors were there but was dry and overcooked. My husband ordered a medium rare filet which came out medium well so they had to cook a new one so my food just sat in front of me getting cold while waiting for his new plate. So that was a huge bummer. They did give us a free glass of Prosecco to make up for it which I appreciate. We also got a side of the truffle fries which were good and gave us something to snack on while waiting for the steak to be refired. Lovely spot. Inconspicuous in a very lax spot in suburban Southlake, Volstead is refreshing in more ways than one. I thought the blacked out walls were temporary only to realize that they're part of the allure. I've been watching this place as it was progressing and was glad to see that it finally opened. Arrived at 430 and it was PACKED standing room only. Thankfully I had a reservation so was seated promptly. Staff was all so helpful and friendly. The manager on duty(Cory I think) stopped by and checked on us too. Love the speakeasy vibe with low light and prohibition era decor - the only complaint was it was SO LOUD .. it was hard to hear my dinner date. Not sure if they do anything about that or not . It was just okay - our group of six all agreed it was pleasant enough, but nothing really stood out or wowed us. I ordered a flatbread and when it arrived it looked and tasted exactly like a basic kids' pizza. My husband ordered the wedge and creamed spinach since he had a large lunch that day. He was not impressed with either dish, unfortunately. The wedge had little toppings and the creamed spinach felt canned-ish. I ordered the sea bass. The mushrooms, broccolini (while a tad too el Dante), were both delicious with the yummy mashed potatoes. The Seabass had great flavor, but was definitely undercooked.
