They got it right!!!! During this time of social distancing, self monitoring and basically adjusting to a new normal, this institution has got it right. They have signage up every where to lead you in the correct direction and they have QR code's to scan and self report so you can easily flow from office to office as needed once you show proper ID & screening. Yes, it is all time consuming but they make it so much easier and the wait not bad if at all. read more

The establishment of a state community college at Gallatin involved the cooperative work of many civic leaders and citizens of Sumner County as well as State officials. A unified proposal for a college was presented to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission in Nashville on September 11, 1967. Upon the recommendation of State Education Commissioner J. H. Warf, Governor Buford Ellington presented the college legislation to the 1969 General Assembly, and it was adopted. Following this action, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission on June 2, 1969 authorized the State Board of Education to establish a community college in Sumner County. A 100-acre tract of land on Nashville Pike was chosen for the new campus. The property was deeded to the State on December 4, 1969. The new college was named Volunteer State Community College, and this was approved by the board on July 2, 1970. Ground breaking ceremonies for the first four buildings were held on November 5, 1970.

Just went to class today for an eight (8) hour session with Barrett and Kayla... and I must say I…read morewas dreading this. However, I had a total blast! This was a fun yet really educational session, and they managed to get the four and eight hour classes finished earlier than expected... which was a huge relief! The course was at the Holiday Inn Express on Chaffin Place in Murfreesboro, (I give that place four and a half stars itself... not a full five as it didn't have a restaurant) and we could get coffee, avail ourselves of the food at the full breakfast bar... not a bad deal. We played cool games in between the necessary videos, quizzes and tests, with a break about halfway through the four hour course, and a lunch hour for the eight hour... however, we managed to cover so much so quickly with retention that we were out of there hours earlier than expected. (We were a group of smart cookies! Yay us!) I can seriously say I learned a lot today. Things have changed since I took drivers ed. Barrett and Kayla are a great team... he's the teacher, and she's the silent but efficient partner; I really got a kick out of her as I know she's as charismatic as he is! We got tips on how to efficiently deal with our completion certificates, got the fax numbers AND the number to call to follow up to make sure the Department of Safety actually HAD received it... I don't trust a fax transmittal sheet myself. I want to know an actual PERSON has gotten that fax from that machine and done what they were supposed to do with it. This is my driver's license we are talking about here! So, they made sure each person knew what to do in their particular situation. All in all? I had a great day with a group of great people... exceptional teachers... an A+ school in all regards. If one must attend this sort of thing? This is the one! I got a discount for signing up and paying online as well!!!

This college is racist. In 2011, I attended this college. I went into the bookstore to purchase books for my courses after receiving a text saying that my student refunds were available in my checking account. I had my son with me and my friend who we just moved back to Nashville from West Memphis, Arkansas. yes, students come from every state and country. To say, I stole something when my background never had a theft charge on it until you made me have a felony theft with the fabrication of witnesses i never met and they could not point me out in court. This college would not let it go. For years, you all made me guilty of crimes I never committed at your college and because of me almost killing myself in Sumner County jail is the reason the guilty plea was handed to cover up the attempted suicide in their jail. God saved my life to fight you and I was an online student living in Nashville. I did not have a car and I was on probation at the time you lied on me. I was not violated of my probation because Davidson County knew I was in Davidson County. Your chief of police Angela Lawson made every attempt to make a Black woman guilty of crimes she did not commit and due to your lies, I am on an 8-year conviction. You all lied on me. In 2026 I will sue the hell out of you all just like I did American Car Center, and I will win just like I did with American Car Center and you will close your doors forever just like American Car Center. on my life this is a promise. read more
