The bakery is conveniently located in the Emporio center where my hotel and office building is. On my first time walking in, I thought Schanzenbackerei was going to be like a magnificent bakery chain in Paris. Nope! Though the bakery is nicely set up and clean with a good assortment of different pastries and bagel sandwiches, the pastries were just so so. I got three different pastries on different mornings: an almond croissant, a tartlet with fruits and custard, and a pastry with cinnamon. All the pastries were super affordable though under 2 Euro. The pastries were fine, but I wish they were able to toast them. They were cold and not as flaky as I would have liked. I liked how the pastries were not overly sweet though; I find that at American bakeries this can be an issue. Though they had a good assortment of baked goods, I was surprised not to see a plain butter croissant. And I was curious to try the currywurst croissant but refrained as it seemed a little heavy. They also have a fully stocked refrigator with drinks and other cold breakfast and lunch items. 2.5 stars rounded up for convenience and friendly but very straightforward staff. It's cheap, easy and will get you by when you're craving carbs!

Some might be seen as experimental, but not crazy. Lemon-Basilic for example is a perfect food-pairing, but far away from a thuna-tequila taste. HARD TO FIND! Well famous "Überseeboulevard" is just around, but if you don't know, that Osakaallee is just two minutes away, you will never go there. Maybe you cross it... open your eyes, dont miss this spot! HOW MUCH IS THE FISH? Oh sorry, they don't have tuna-tequila! Did I ever say they have? So get some of the available fantastic icecream, actually (2019) they charge €1.30 each varietie.
