I don't know what happened to this place. When I first got my glasses 2 years back everyone knew what they were doing & it was organized. The communication was there. Over my last few visits it's just a mess. Rather their system is down or the receptionist is all over the place or the doctors themselves don't seem confident in their work. They got excited when they told me one of my eyes had worsen and the good news was that at least I have the same prescription for both eyes. Like cmon. Be better, do better. read more

Saw Dr, Angie Vonhamme THE FIRST WEEK IN JUNE; had an internal sty in my LEFT eye. She prescribed steroidal eye drops (and wrote the script for RIGHT eye). I was told to use them for a week and, if the situation doesn't clear up, to call the office so that I may be sent to a specialist. Called the office, was told to use them for another week and call back. Used them for another week and called back; was told a message was sent to the doctor. No call back. Waited, called again - rinse and repeat. I finally got a referral for OCTOBER and no refill on my incorrectly written script. Had to have my Primary call them to see me again; in the meantime I requested a records request so I could change doctors DO NOT GO TO Vonhamme eye "care" as they are clearly not interested in patients read more

I had an eye exam and paid when i was done. A few months later i got an additional bill for 13.18. I was never told there might be an additional charge. I have Medicare and blue cross and blue shield. They took a 30.88 write off for Medicare and decided that was enough so then they billed me for 13.18. If you go there pay by check and write paid in full in the memo, maybe that will stop them from adding charges months later. Funny how keeping my business isn't worth 13.18. Plus this bad review. I wonder if they realize how much 13.18 cost them. read more

In the beginning of December 2021, I received a bill for an eye exam conducted on 6/29/21 for $40.04. Some of the itemized charges seemed incorrect, so I called and spoke with Matthew, who seemed to be new to Vonnahme. He informed me that the charges seemed incorrect to him, but that only the Office Manager Susan could make final ruling and adjust the bill. I provided by name and phone number and asked if she could call me back. After not hearing back from Susan, I followed up the following week and was told she would be out on vacation all week. I again asked for a call back upon her return. After not hearing back from Susan once again, I called the following week and was told that Susan would be working from home for the entire week and would only accessible via email (she had no alterative phone number available). I asked for her to again call me back regarding this very simple and minor charge on my bill. After not hearing back again and wanting to pay the bill off, I made payment in full through their web site with my questions going unanswered. I recommend taking future business to a practice where patients are appreciated and have questions answered in a professional and timely manner. read more

Gave this place a shot because I just started wearing glasses and had moved recently. Read great reviews on Google too. The staff seemed friendly enough though not very helpful in answering technical questions for an eyewear newbie. Within the next year I experienced everything from a wrong prescription for one set of my glasses (& they wondered why I couldn't see), the practice ordering the wrong type of lenses, & having to return multiple times to pick up items that were supposed to be ready but were not . The final nail on the coffin came one evening when I couldn't make it out of work in time to pick up an item the doctor had left for me. I sent my boyfriend to pick up the item instead. 3 front desk staff to decide to be super unprofessional and attempt to flirt and make comments to my boyfriend while he was on the phone with me. Sorry ladies, that's a bit much, very tacky & you clearly need some training on what's appropriate in the workplace and with clients. Returning here is a hard no for me. Whoever is running this place needs to take a look at all these negative yelp reviews and make some changes before they lose their business. read more

I had an appointment scheduled for 2/18/20 that was made back in October. I had the same insurance in October as i do now and give them all that information. Now the day before they are saying they do not except my insurance and are looking to bill me for canceling. I went in for a routine eye exam which is $99 for which i have eye insurance and was billed an additional $185 AFTER my $20 copay because they "recommended additional images of my optic nerve" which i promptly refused. How can you even recommend optic nerve images based on a cursory exam without even dilating my eyes?! I should have known something was wrong when upon checking in, they requested my medical card in addition to my eye insurance card for a routine eye exam. This office takes advantage of the fact that so many people have full coverage and do not check the codes that are charged on the bill. I pay full out of pocket for non preventive visits. Therefore i am full aware of what exams and images i agree to and intentionally choose to pay for. These doctors are shady and take advantage of what they can get away with by charging for services not rendered and refused. I would NEVER EVER use this facility again nor do i recommend them. Terrible staff. Not personable. Order my son's glasses they never called to say they were in. We called them... then they ordered the wrong lens... super thick! They supposedly reordered we called a couple times they still were not in. Finally we called and asked when will they be in. They rudely said they had to reorder them. No kidding I was there! I feel they never reordered them. Finally WE called again and they were in. Literally 4 weeks for glasses and a rude unapologetic staff. I had a lovely, professional experience at Vonnahme. Everyone I encountered, from the receptionist to the technician and the optometrist himself were polite and kind. I was concerned about surprise fees as other reviews have mentioned them, but was pleasantly surprised with how transparent and invested in my informed consent the staff were. I was clearly informed what would and would not be covered by insurance, as well as the reason for a service suggestion that would not be covered. I requested an itemized receipt that was clear and correct. I also appreciated that the doctor took the time to explain to me what we were looking at in my scans and how it compared to average for people my age. Additionally, I was in a tough spot as I had broken my glasses and wearing very old prescription glasses that were causing me a lot of discomfort, and the staff ensured that I received my glasses as expediently as possible. Overall I find their staff friendly, but in the past few years I've felt like they care more about making money off of me than giving me quality care. I understand that a business needs to make money, but I think I pay enough for the exam, glasses, and contact lenses without all of these "add-one." Plus they make the prescription valid for only one year even though for glasses two years is typical. read more

Very slow at service. Made us wait almost forever for before eye test was done despite being in the eye care centre on time for our appointment. The staff who answer the phone are defensive and outright rude (except for one person). They don't hand over the prescription for glasses and contacts after the Eye test, unless we request for it?!! I decided to go to Vonnahme because they were opening a satellite store in Easthampton which is where I work, managing a local business so I thought it would be convenient. I should've read the reviews before I made the appointment. I wanted to get fitted for contacts. My appointment went OK but they were very forthcoming with information as far as how things were going to go afterwards. I was given disposable contacts to try out for a week and was asked to return to make sure everything went smoothly. On my return appointment, I'm not even sure why I was there other then a sales pitch for a contacts subscription. I was under the impression that my prescription would be ready by then which it wasn't- I waited for 25 minutes in the waiting room for the doctor's assistant to come back in and finish me up I was forgotten about I had to go out to the front and tell somebody that I was waiting in the room. Nothing was being explained to me. One of the girls then proceeded to go over the plans for contacts and monthly versus yearly basically just saying I would save a little bit of money if I did it yearly which added up to be about $24. I asked for more contacts to get me through until I received the script since I didn't realize it was going to be another week or so she gave me enough for five days it was the holidays and I said are you sure I'm going to receive my contacts by then and she said yes well it's now been a week and I have not received them I'm all out of the temporary contacts I spent over $700 with this place- I signed up for a year of contacts with them- you would think that they would be able to give me another sample pack that they get from their suppliers. I feel like they knew that's what was going to happen but didn't care and brushed me off. I originally planned to get a pair of glasses as well and now I'm going to go somewhere else- I feel like cancelling my order with them and buying elsewhere- they lost a customer for sure read more

Very dissatisfied! I went for my annual eye exam and Dr. Vonnahme talked me into trying daily lenses, instead of the monthly lenses I'd been happy with. When I checked out at the end of my appointment, the receptionist told me that if I pre-paid for a year's supply of the daily lenses (on that day ONLY), I'd receive an automatic discount and would also be eligible to send in a form to the manufacturer for an additional rebate. In an effort to save money, I complied. After a week-long trial with the daily lenses, I returned to the doctor and asked to continue with the monthly lenses I'd been using instead. He tried to convince me to try a daily lens from a different manufacturer instead, but I declined. When I checked out at that appointment, the receptionist told me that they could not issue a refund (in the amount of $308) to the credit card I'd used to pre-pay for the daily lenses and said that a refund check would be mailed to my home address within 7-10 business days. Since I was still wearing the last pair of trial daily lenses, I asked for a pair of monthly lenses to wear until my order came in. They told me they only had the monthly lenses in a different power than what I need. When I said that was unacceptable and that I'd accept a week's worth of daily lenses (in the correct power) as a temporary solution, the receptionist disappeared in the back. When she finally returned to the desk, she said they managed to find a pair of the monthly lenses in the correct power after all. After 10 business days had elapsed, I contacted Vonnahme to inquire about the refund that I had not yet received. I was put on hold, and when the receptionist picked up she told me that the doctor had to personally issue the refund check. She apologized for the delay and said she'd speak with the doctor as soon as he came in. It has now been 15 business days and still no check. I intend to now go out of my way to visit this location in person and demand the refund. This is ridiculous! I do want to say that while this most recent experience with Vonnahme has been very frustrating, I had not previously had any negative experiences. I don't know if it was because this was the first time I was treated by Dr. Vonnahme, instead of one of the other doctors on staff, that the problem was created. Regardless, I'm not sure I'll go back to them as a result. read more

I have been going there for a few years and I am giving up. Horrible service from the people who answer the phone. Extremely rude and need to be better equipped to answer questions. I had a contact lens prescription and it expired the day I requested the contacts. They would not fill it. She also told me had I requested the contacts three months ago they also wouldn't have filled it because I needed an eye exam. I used to get an eye exam every other year and it was never a problem. Now they want more money so they denied the prescription refill request. I wouldn't have had a problem had it stated on the prescription you can use up until xxx date to fill. It expires in a year because that is state law but they are not filling it. I would NEVER recommend this eye care place. I would rather spend more money and go to a local place. read more

The last time I was here was when they were at the Holyoke mall. I went to another optometrist and they noticed my lenses were not adjusted perfectly to my eyes causing my eyes to move, minimally in order to accommodate the incorrect lens measurement. I went to another optometrist just to confirm and they also agreed. They had nice customer service though and the optometrist was nice. read more

Wow, just awful. The staff were friendly enough, the doctors check your eyes and take your money. Getting what you paid for, like a written prescription, or a product you ordered is where it all goes wrong. They'll promise to get it to you, a week later say it's not ready, weeks after that oops we didn't actually order it. A month later they're making excuse after excuse and wasting your time forever. They told me my insurance would cover some eye tests then told me otherwise when I showed up for the appointment. I refused to get those extra tests done but I was billed through my FSA despite the services never being performed. Very shady place. I will never go there again. And the cheaply made 200 dollar frameless glasses from a prior visit that were said to be once price then raised to another (yes this is not one but two separate visits of "mistakes" in pricing) broke so I am currently wearing an old pair. I have had the worst experience at this store. They messed up my contact lenses orders twice and never apologized for it. In both instances, the staff was completely dismissive and did not listened to my complaints until I made them realize they gave the wrong lenses. The first time, they called me and told my order had arrived, I went there and the lenses were not there. When I told them I wanted to lenses shipped to my home they refused. When the lenses arrived, they were the wrong kind. The second time, my partner picked up my lenses and they gave him a completely different lens and failed to acknowledge so over the phone. Also, the packages the lenses came in looked very, very sketchy: everything was written in Chinese, no English to be found in the box. I even wondered if these lenses are FDA approved. Long story short, they promised me to send the right lenses after a one hour phone call where I had to talk to a million people (NOBODY APOLOGIZED for messing up), and they promised me to send me my lenses in 4 business days. A week has passed and I still have not seen them. Vonnahme Eye Care, you have lost one client for sure, and I will make sure my friends do not come to you. read more
