I am a Canadian and in 2014, I was living in Berlin, studying German full time. In January 2014, I was accepted into the PhD programme at the University of London and due to some complications, I wanted legal advice going from Germany to the UK to study.
As my German was not strong enough to explain the complexities of my case, I googled English speaking lawyers and one reviewer spoke of a positive experience she had with vpmk Rechtsanwälte.
I phoned the reception to make an appointment. She, understandably, wanted to know the nature of my case in order to make an appointment with the appropriate lawyer. I told her my German was not very strong but my husband was fluent and suggested that perhaps I should ask him to call back. She assured me that she spoke and understood English well and that was not necessary.
I told her my case. I was Canadian. I was living in Berlin and moving to the UK. I needed a lawyer who was familiar with UK immigration laws and one who, preferably, spoke English. She said she had just the lawyer for me, who knew all about UK laws and spoke English. I therefore made an appointment.
The day of the appointment, I went in and was asked to pay the 100 Euros fee. I did so and was shown into an office. The lawyer came in, I told him the details, and he simply told me that he knew nothing of UK immigration laws and that I needed to seek the advice of a UK lawyer.
The appointment lasted around 5 minutes. He handed me a contact list of UK lawyers and left. At home, I contacted some of the lawyers who did not deal with immigration at all; the list he gave me was useless.
I called vpmk Rechtsanwälte and explained my frustration to the lawyer directly. He was curt and clearly annoyed. I was simply told that I will not be refunded my money and there is nothing I can do about it. read more
