I like this one's visibility, and also the platform is attractive and well built. The stair climb is admittedly a exercise routine. Get those steps in! If you're in the area, and want to go to DC at Union Station, this is the most sane way of getting there.

There are also limited stops (listed below). I would recommend to anyone who goes from the Manassas/ burke / ffx area to Alexandria, Crystal city, L'Enfant plaza, or union station.

I am in my late 50s. I do not live in Washington, D.C. My elderly father does though. So I am in and out all the time, checking up on him (he still lives on his own). I am experienced riding a bicycle in the city. I have owned an e bike (it stopped working, the Van Moof; I loved it when it ran, but build quality was an issue). I also rented regularly in San Francisco when I lived there, and do so intermittently in New York City where I reside now. I have had good experiences and bad, including an issue where part of a bike belonging to the defunct Uber system fell out in an intersection, and the customer service agent told me I was lucky I didn't die and offered me a $2 refund, which I thought was rather rude, prompting me to interact with the General Counsel's office to no avail -- moral of the story is you won't get much by complaining, even if you are in the right and quite polite. All told, I am confident I have taken at least three dozen rides, maybe four dozen rides, with at least three other companies, in two major metropolitan areas besides DC. I also support mass transit and alternative transit. I regularly ride the bus, and I am irked by people who assume I would not do that, because they are projecting their sense of privilege (it is apparent from their disdain they would not ride the bus) on me. I also run commute as much as I can, and I previously did that on a regular basis (three days a week, 4.5 miles, just one way; then MUNI back). That is not to brag about virtue. Don't trust anybody who touts their own morality. In any event, Capital Bikeshare seems to have worked out the problems with this service. They have lots of bikes. That have lots of locations (including one about a quarter mile from where we stay and another on the side of the train station where I need to go). They have an acceptable number of e bikes in the fleet. The maintenance is much better than pre-pandemic with their rivals. (I am opposed to the dockless networks. Those result in the inevitable problem of bikes scattered willy nilly on sidewalks and where they pose a hazard.) The annual fee is reasonable. I am planning three trips in the next two weeks, early in the morning before Metro starts running, to Union Station. If I do as I intend, the amount saved over a motor vehicle ride share will offset the cost. I figure at 4am, the traffic will not be a great hazard (though the drivers out will include a disproportionate number of people who, given the late/early hour, probably pose a risk).

Once I get the chance to experience the full monty, so to speak, I will most likely have a higher rating. From what i have seen, these bikes get used nearly every day. Spring Hill is a pretty good Metro station. It happens to be pretty new so it's clean. Station is…read morelocated in Vienna. Because it's an outdoor one it has much better smells. This is connected to plenty of ground transportation. At this station the trains come fairly often. It serves the Silver Line. This is the station after Greensboro when going west. It has a pretty good location. The next stop is Wiehle-Reston. It gets trains every few minutes just about. There isn't as long as a wait even if it's not peak times. Many people are coming from or going to Dulles. The station has lots of modern technology like monitors and stuff. It has some things to do around here. Lots of places to eat and just hang out. There's lots of things to do while here waiting.

Don't take OurBus if you think there's any chance of you having to cancel your bus. In 2019 I had…read moreto cancel a couple tickets for another passenger not being able to go due to a family emergency. Instead of a refund, OurBus gives you credits for future bus rides. Okay, other public transportation services give out full refunds so not ideal, but fine. When the credits were issued to me they stated that their policy was the credits DO NOT ever expire. I figured I'd use their services again in the future and kept tab of my credits. Fast forward to this week. I finally had a reason to take the bus again and went to use my credits. Surprise, surprise-- they were gone. I thought it must have been a mistake in my account and reached out to customer service, only to be told that their policy changed and that credits are only valid for 5 years after being issued. Despite the policy being different when I was given my credits, they refused to grandfather me in or give back any of my $100 worth of credits. Wouldn't even extend the expiration date to 5 years from when the policy changed. Would not budge or work with me at all despite me being a regular customer in the past. So basically I had $100 stolen from me. No services rendered, no refund given, and no credits to be seen. Not sure who was in charge of this terrible policy, but it definitely ensured that I will never ever be using OurBus again. I'd warn others about their scummy policy so they don't leave other customers high and dry.

Good number of parking spots at this location. Most people take the VRE to commute from/to DC for…read morework. Occasionally, tourists and/or kids will take this train to visit the city, especially during the spring and summer months. This place is located near a residential area and an industrial complex, yet it is isolated from most places. Most people are not aware of this station. There isn't much here. A few ticket machines at the entrance to the platform, and about a half dozen benches near the platform. At night, be extra aware when it gets dark. Over the years, there have been a few vandals messing with parked cars. Not recommended to keep cars here overnight. You will need to take the elevator down or walk a number of steps on the outdoor stairway down to get to the platform. For those with issues with heights, it may be best to take the elevator. Unlike the VRE stations at Woodbridge or Quantico, there is no convenience/coffee area at the Rippon station which is a bummer if you are waiting for a long period. Also, although Amtrak trains share the same tracks, it doesn't stop here. You either get off or on at Quantico or Woodbridge stations. Like other train stations, if you are depending on timely arrivals and departures, your trip is affected by the weather, train breakdowns (unfortunately that has happened too frequently), if other trains are using the tracks during your trip, and other VRE trains preceding your trip. The VRE Fredericksburg train lines share tracks with VRE Manassas train lines at a certain point (Alexandria to DC). If either train line is running late, it can affect later trains. Check their website for trip updates. Cost from this stop is the same price as the Woodbridge stop because both stations are considered under the same zone. Note that pricing has gradually risen as expected in this area. For updated, details, check their website. What can I say? It's public transportation.

Manassas Airport is a small regional public-use airport. Staff is excellent and friendly. I visit…read morethe airport because of a 5K . Yes, they have a 5k on the runway. It is a very fun experience to run next to jets and with helicopters flying over you. The airport features a small but excellent museum dedicated to Manassas residents who served the US Military. It is completely free and made up of local donations. I was surprised by how many artifacts they had. Anyways it's a great way to spend an hour or so. 5 stars

The airport has two runways, 3700' & 5700' long with a newly renovated Air Traffic Control Tower. Since 2009, MRA receives international (private) flights, slated as a customs landing rights airport. MRA also houses Aviation Adventures, a flight school. On site, is the Freedom Museum showcasing & honoring those who served in the military with sharing their history & heritage. Free admissions, donations appreciated. MRA is the largest regional airport in VA (other airports - Leesburg, Warrenton-Fauquier & Stafford) & is roughly 30 miles out from DC.
