From the $6 Taco Yaki (fried octopus balls) and Togarashi Tofu (deep fried tofu with chilli, garlic and dried shredded tuna) to my favourite, the Asagao Dinner Box (sushi, futomaki, green salad & tuna maki) for $14.50, you leave Asakusa feeling full, healthy and happy in the knowledge that you haven't spent most of this week's budget. The good dishes I've had are: - bulalo (oxtail soup) - kaldereta (beef in a tomato based sauce) - embusilog (embutido, rice and egg) - crispy pata (crispy pork knuckles) - bicol express (pork in a spicy coconut sauce) - adobo rice (fried rice with pork adobo flakes) - sizzling sisig - dinuguan (pork in blood stew) Pretty bad are: - pork adobo (I felt like it had too much soy sauce and not enough vinegar) - kare kare (bland peanut sauce and it this weird woody taste) Downright terrible is the tapsilog. It was so dry and overcooked that it had absolutely no flavour left. Their sago gulaman is way too sweet as well. My friend claims the tinapa rice was really good but I haven't had the chance to try it yet. The place is small so be prepared to wait if you come for lunch or dinner on a weekend. The all day breakfast silog meals are appropriately priced at $12/$13 while the mains start from $16. Pretty good value if you ask me.

A little over espressed (and thus a little burnt and bitter), but seriously just a tad (don't forget, I really am a picky bastard). I don't recall having drunk Di Gabriel coffee before, but it was enjoyable. Getting back to the primary focus of this cafe, mums with kids, I am sure they would be happy this cafe uses a range of loose leaf T2 tea. And for the kids, the babychinos expressly come with marshmellows (which more cafes should really do! Some places charge $2 for a small glass of milk!!). Everyone coming in seems to be on a first name basis with Scott, who does a great job on the old espresso machine. The cafe has the same laid back feel Scott brings, with a backing track of smooth jazz.
